we were discussing positive vs. negative aspects of the "truth".
she brought out that the witnesses do not participate in war, and i thought 'gee, that's probably a good thing'.

I would say they stand up for what they believe (whether it's correct or not doesn't matter here)
I've watched someone go from just plain mean to actually thinking about her words and actions before saying and doing them (This isn't true in all cases)
Encourages intrest in the 'Bible' (which backfires on many)

i was just reading through this new brochure "what does god require of us?
" that was "placed" with me last week.. it is set up to be studied with a householder in short sessions - each lesson is only about 6-7 paragraphs.
the first three are quite simple - general statements with a supporting scripture.
I became involved with my Church Bible Studies and so I told my JW Step-mom and got quized about what Bible we're using and concordance. Basically I was using the 'wrong' materials and should review the books she and Dad gave us..................................................................... thank you for showing me how this type of set-up works and reminding me not to say anything negative about JW's in front of them.

Bradley - I think it's an excellent idea which needs to be considered seriously. Other forms of BC are 90+% effective and the one you're considering is 99%. Honestly now you aren't married and you really don't have to take your 'wife to be' into consideration only because it's something that came before her (ahemm). Anyhow I would look into banks and see which one is least likely to scew things up and proceed from that point on.

Perry - The Army paid back 1/3 of my loans each year. I had a 5 year enlistment and was sent to Port-au-Prince for the 'elections' in '95 and Kuwait, Bahrain & Saudi in '98. There were protests in both places and wearing the indiscreet robin egg blue UN hats didn't help (Haiti).
All - The media covers the sins of people. The biggest difference between the Vietnam media and today's is the 24 hour news day and the number for media sources. Then we had the big 3 networks - ABC, NBC, CBS. Reporters were encouraged to go with the Soldiers and report on the war. This brought the war into the average American home for the first time in History (but not on a 24hour cycle). Whereas 'before' footage of the War (WWII) was seen on the big screen in the movie theater. Now we've included more networks, more competition and via media, public opinion is dependant on what's seen on TV.
Iraq - Regardless of WOMD, we should have gone in. As a 'superpower' we have the responsibility to help citizens of other countries. Granted Democracy will not (and does not) always work, but allowing 'rulers' to destroy their own populations is unacceptable.

Valis - You're right I should have placed ' Rhetorical' behind the question. This is a heated subject for me and I appologize for any offense my post may have cause anyone. I joined to pay back student loans, not to get shot at in Haiti or Saudi. But there I was, oh well, it was my decission. Basically the article just states the media is not welcome at Dover & Germany. There are updates every day with the latest casualities and remembering the Soldiers as people vs. a boxes being brought out of a C-130 is more effective.

YEA! I went to the Public Affairs Officers Course with Olivia and am glad to see she's doing well. This policy is across the board and it's for many reasons, let's include politial as the most obvious, but add in there morale of the troops overseas along with their families watching the TV 24/7. Fallen Soldiers will get local media coverage in their hometowns, where they will be remembered. Some will have parks names after them, other will have other types of memorials. It not necessary for the national outlets to sit at the Dover runway taking photos of Americans in mourning.
Soldiers are doing the job they have been training to do. All the while people in the States are wondering why we're 'there', Soldiers don't have the luxruy to wonder - They made the decission to join and are proud enough to say they risked their lives for their country - What did you do?
