Totally agree with OTWO. There's a German Circus in our area at the moment, it's large, and it has a lot of animals (elephants, tigers, camels, seals etc.). Although I would love to be in that atmosphere just one more time, for the smell and the triggering of childhood memories, I won't go. Because of the animals. I don't want to financially support a system that I don't approve of.

Observations from a day at the zoo
by Simon inso we went to calgary zoo today and i'm torn between zoo's being great for conservation vs using animals to make money.
i think on the whole they are a good thing but it's sad to see some of the animals caged up - somehow i always end up staring into the eyes of a gorilla and it makes me sad.. but that isn't what struck me ... it's these things:.

Hey buddy,
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Things will get better, promise! It's a universal law, like the tide... the down will turn into an up again. Just hang in there and you'll see it happening! And let your friends help you, by telling them how you feel and giving them a chance to comfort you! And go to a psychologist is a good advice also, I've done that and it's helped me enormously!

How do we set up a "Used New Bike Fund" for Terry?
by BucketShopBill inis there any way we can try to start a crowd-fund to help terry get some wheels quicker than he currently can?
with craigslist and a couple of bucks from a few members we can help terry get moving.
does anyone have any ideas how we can do a "theists for terry" bike fund raiser and challenge the atheists to a bucket-head challenge?

I'm willing to donate for a bike for Terry. It saddens me to read that his books don't sell as good as he hoped, and I'm really surprised that people think writing a book is a guaranteed ticket to financial freedom (and tell it like they envy people who are making money with their books)... without the backup of a publisher you're on your own and you get peanuts!
I've once recorded a cd. Same story, I thought people would want to have it, since they always loved hearing me sing when I performed. Huge mistake, the recording sessions only cost me € 2500 and all I got back was about 15 sales of € 8 each... This was over ten years ago, and I still have a stack of cd's. They're not for sale anymore, I'm just telling it to let people know that they often think about the income of others and assume they know how much they make, but most people haven't got a clue! Same with me and my husband now, most people think we're rich, since we live in Spain and have a private pool in our backyard... Think again! Every month is a financial challenge and I can't stand people who cannot see our bank account nor wallet, but talk about us on the internet (not here, but we're being harrassed on a couple of Dutch websites) like we're earning loads of money. We don't.
End of rant, sorry. I'll check back to see how I can donate.... [add. it's already there, while I was still typing ].
Just remember that RECEIVING payments on PayPal COSTS the receiver a fee (1,9% to 3,4% plus a small fixed amount) to Paypal! When people donate $1 he will not get 1$ but what's left after Paypal gets their fee. Just saying.
I hope Terry will ride a bike again soon! Or we could donate a little more, with more people, and get his car fixed again!

They came at our gate today, but I didn't open. Our dogs nearly barked their lungs out and I saw two men standing at the gate (saw them in the bathroom mirror haha)... Of course I recognized them immediately as JWs, so I left them there. Later I found the flyer... it kind of annoyed me that they folded it horizontally instead of vertically. As a child I've helped at numerous occasions to fold flyers (back in the 70's) with my mother and other sisters and we took that task very seriously. Anyway, I didn't even bother to read this new piece of crap nor looked at it closely. Just trashed it.

What if the DO reinstate you Kate? What if they come up to you in two months and say 'well, you've been so persistent, we've talked it through again and the BOE has decided to reinstate you. Welcome back in our midst'... Then what??? Don't think it can't happen, if anyone is reading here, they know exactly what you're doing and they just know how to suck you back in!
And I'm also worried about the signal you're given to your daughter... that YOU are not important, your 'loved one' in the hall is your main concern. That gives a daughter an internal image she'll carry along for the rest of her life! Please Kate... you're not only messing with your own life by doing this stupid thing to 'prove' something! Nobody is worth to abandon your principles!
But hey, it's your choice...

So Happy to Learn About Homemade Weed Killer
by Iown Mylife inthree days ago we mixed up the recipe and sprayed the driveway cracks and several places where the weeds have been hard to get rid of.. today the weeds are dead just like when we've sprayed commercial weed killer.. mix one gallon white vinegar, 1 cup salt, 5 to 6 tablespoons of dawn dishwashing liquid.
note: don't spray if it's fixin' to rain, wait for dry weather so the stuff will stay on the weeds.
and don't spray where you want anything to grow ever!.

My homemade cleaner is vinegar with orange peels... Just let it stand in a glass jar in the sun for a month, then take out the peels and you're done. You can put it in a spray bottle, dilute it 50% (I don't do that, I use it pure). It's 100% natural, kills bacteria and is a very good cleaner. (but don't use it on marble!)
Oh and don't kill dandelions!!!! They're very healthy, and delicious as lemonade!
