haha, great story Terry. Just be careful that you won't become too vulnerable for religious people... you might encounter some JW's one day and God knows what they could tell you... :P -

My Mother Died Two Weeks Ago
by Perry innone of my jehovah's witness relatives called to tell me or my family.
just found out this morning.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Perry. My condolences to you, your wife and kids. Must be hard to tell them this... and hard on you that you had to find out this way.
It's unbelievable how heartless many JW's have become towards people outside their group.
My thoughts are with you, can only try to imagine how you must feel... so sad.
Hugs,
Bruja. -

Leaving the org and marriage possibly ending
by atacrossroads ini was raised a witness, baptized at 16, vacation pioneered, got married, etc.
i was very much your typical witness and believed it was the truth until last summer.
a very close relative of mine left the witnesses.

Relatives of mine have managed to stay happy in their marriage, while the man has faded. The elders came to their house one day, and the man was well prepared. He gave them a list with questions to answer and his promise that he would return to the kingdom hall if they could give him satisfying answers. That was over ten years ago, they never came back and he has never returned to the hall. He and his wife never talk about religion, he became a 'born again christian' but he kept a low profile, never celebrated holidays or birthdays. His wife is still a very dedicated JW. Their only child is allowed to make their own choices, although the woman of course tries to influence that, but the man is showing the other side of everything, so there's some sort of balance there.
Bottomline is: it is possible to successfully fade and keep your marriage intact, but only if you're willing to give in on things like holidays. Total freedom of speech and doing what you want is not in that package... So it's the question for you, atacrossroads, if your husband and marriage are worth that price!
Wishing you all the best, and welcome here!

I now hate being called 'sister'
by purrpurr insince waking up i find i am bridling at being called 'sister'.
but it feels like an identity that is being forced on me.. i feel like shouting "i have a name you know!".
it is just me or does anyone else recognise this?.
-
Bruja-del-Sol
I've got the same feeling purrpurr... I've been out for over a decade, but if anybody calls me 'sister' (except for my real flesh and blood brother and sister) I instantly tell them "I'm not your sister!"
Now that I'm thinking of it, the JWs calling each other 'brother' and 'sister' doesn't make them feel closer to each other. More like the contrary. And it takes away a part of your identity when people don't call you by your first name. Probably that's the whole idea behind it? But that's just a thought that got to me just now...

I sent this to Angus Stewart this morning (Easter Standard Time)
by Viviane ini just sent this email to angus stewart:.
i hope this email finds you well.
i would like to say thank you for your work on the royal commission, particularly in your handling of the jehovah's witnesses elders and experts during questioning.

I would be careful with publicly presenting the e-mail sent by mr. Stewart. In fact it's breach of confidentiality. I'm not so sure mr. Stewart will appreciate this, Viviane. I don't mean to criticise you, I'm just worried that your good intentions might harm mr. Stewart, while he's doing such a great job and even is so polite to reply to the messages he receives.
