I'm curious to know what some of the old-timer, more digniifed, intelligent, & knowledgeable JWs would think about this. I have saved the videos and plan on showing them to some of the old-timers I know. I need to hurry, though; only a few left. They're dying off.

Good question: "what's happening?" One of the reasons I visit this site regularly is to keep up with what's going on. It's interesting to watch the morphing of the org. I don't know what's next. I know it ain't what it used to be, and I believe it's going to get stranger and that more changes are ahead.

God Says Scripture is Enough

as jw's we must have read that scripture a thousand times.

I agree. Even though I’m now agnostic and haven’t “found Jesus” as Perry thinks he has, I admit that I have never thought about the point he made about 2Ti 3:16,17. That is a powerful point to use on JWs.

designs: Perry- I bet you have Bible Dictionaries, Maps, and Encyclopedias on you book shelf right now. No one is "Bible Alone" the Bible is to old and to arcane to not have reference works to know meanings and terms it uses.

I was thinking the same thing. No one can use the Bible alone. It is too old and too arcane. The languages it was written in are dead. The idiom, lifestyles, wording, geography, society, etc are foreign. And the writing is poor to me; it’s hard to follow in many places.

But, still, I do like the point to use on JWs. They claim the passage is referring to the Bible and they say they believe every word of it. OK, then, it does say, as Perry said, that scripture should make one “fully competent” and “completely equipped". It doesn’t say reading the Bible, going to meetings, reading the Watchtower, etc. will make one fully competent and completely equipped.

LisaRose: Right, the bible is inspired because it says it is inspired.

Good point. I always thought that was ridiculous to believe the Bible because it says it’s inspired.

i can't believe this was a gb approved event since it was for international convention people.

if somebody tried to do this on a wedding they'd get dfed in a heart beat.

Now after reading that article, can you imagine that "for months an inordinate amount of time" was used for them to learn those loud worldly songs? Shouldn't they have instead been 'buying out the time' for 'more important things' such as field service?

The amount of time consumed by all the practice, prep, etc. was one of the main things I thought about in conncection with all this International Convention entertainment stuff. The drummer (evidently the leader of "The Theocratic Revue") actually said they spent many hours practicing.

To answer your question, Yes. If JWs are what they say they are and if they truly believe that the end of the world is imminent and that billions of lives are at stake, then they should be very seriously and urgently using all available time to warn the world - not using their time frivolously. They don't act like a people who think billions of lives are to be lost at any minute, perhaps in a few months (as evidenced by the statement that this past Memorial might be the last).

We have already discussed this video on at least one other thread. It is embarassing, corny, cheesy, and like Pentecostals. The JW group, "The Theocratic Revue", is completely devoid of talent. The main girl in front can't sing or dance.

Toward the end of the video, seeing the whole kingdom hall break out in Pentecostal "happy dancing" was just plain weird and embarassing.

I wouldn't say that the specific goings-on in the video were directly approved by the GB, however, this kind of stuff has been going in a number of different areas in connection with the International Conventions, so I think the org does in general approve of and maybe encourage such.

It's just so different now.

RE-branding, is the WT going to be a completely new religion in a few years?

thier pushing jw.org and thiers speculation that the name watchtower is going by by.

also they may even drop the name jehovah referencing the new bible at pages 1735-37 i believe.

do you think that the names jehovah's witnesses, watchtower, are going away to be replaced by another?

I agree with EndofMysteries. It already is a new religion. However, I think more changes are to come. It might morph into something extremely different. It's interesting to observe.

if you don't like being a jehovah's witness or going to the kingdom hall or the society then leave.... it's as simple as that... .

i left several years ago and have not been hounded, bothered or sought out by anyone.

i still see them from time to time, and yes, they do pour out the love bomb when you run into them, but eh, you know what?

I agree with LisaRose.

J.C.: People are creating more drama and more stress by complaining and finding fault.

So you say that we just let the org continue to do its thing with no opposition? That might be for you, but not for me. I have a strong sense of justice and don't like to let entities such as the org get away with lying, stealing (in effect), ruining lives, cheating, being dumbasses, etc. So I'm watching the situation carefully and may at the right time actively oppose the org.

In addition, I still keep up with with what's going on because it's just interesting. It's interesting to observe all the changes and craziness and the beginnings of a possible decline of the org. This is real life; it's far more interesting than some scripted "reality" show.

And, by the way, I have left.

What is this latest letter from the GB about?

we have been told this week that all in the elder and ms body will be read a letter from the gb about "make this the greatest month of activity ever"..... has anyone else had such a letter read out in their cong / servant body?.

i presume it will be all about "recommending strongly/insisting" that all these men should pioneer for the month?.

A similar question appeared in the Watchtower in the 1980's. It's one of the things that motivated me to become a reg pio back then (and waste the prime of my life).

kind of leaves us begging.

why didn't he see this coming and encourage us to get educated while we had the chance.

And the faithful and discreet slave ain't so discreet. They told younger JWs way back in the 1960's that they wouldn't grow old in this system, wouldn't have to worry about careers in this system, etc.

stuckinarut2, I don't completely understand your last post. To whom did you send the video? I'm interested because I was thinking of showing it to a few JWs in my area and I want to verify what you're saying. Are you saying that an elder in your area was disgusted by it and thought it was made up?
