Oh, the crickets from me were unintentional; I just saw this. I'm EXTREMELY interested in this kind of material. In fact, I'm going to save this page for future reference. I'm going to try to look at all the info tonight (just skimmed it - at work now). I think some of us don't realize how many people see and are benefitted by what we post.
I take note of material like this, book recommendations, etc. that I see on this site. Thanks much!

Anthony Moriss nervous breakdowns and Bethel stress!
by Witness 007 inso karl klien of the governing body gave his life story in the watchtower talking about his stress, nervous breakdowns and pressure to take the lead.
it was aweful.

I skimmed through that old thread about Karl Klein. It was interesting; I want to read it completely later.
Maybe Anthony had the same problem.
Interesting, but I don't really see evidence of that. He seemed overconfident, too sure of himself; in fact, he seemed downright satisfied and arrogant. He seemed to love his position and to revel in it.
I'm leaning more towards something alcohol related and/or his being a loose canon and going off script too much and contributing to the waking up of the drones.

Freemail:
It means nothing. The world still spins and JWs will carry on as usual.
Everybody should just get on with life and stop obsessing over trivialities like this religion. It means a great deal to me. JWdom is a cult that stole virtually my entire life. I lived in misery for decades because of it. All my family members are still in, and, as a result, I have zero relationship with them. It is natural for people like me to be interested in the goings-on in JW land.
Actually, there are a lot of things that "mean nothing" that people are interested in; do you tell them to stop being interested in such? Are humans supposed to just be interested in survival? Are we to just work and eat and sleep and not be interested in things that don't relate to our survival? Are we not to watch movies, read Shakespeare, or be interested in things that "mean nothing"?
The truth is that you mean nothing to me. I know nothing about you and couldn't care less what you think. I have vastly more interest in what happens to Tony Morris than what you have to say. -

How did it come to this?
by New day ini am now in my early 60’s.
i was baptized in 1980. i served as a ministerial servant and an elder.
i gave my all for many years but about eight years ago i started to question many things.

Your situation seems very similar to mine. We are about the same age, were baptized around the same time, and both served as MS & elder. I also gave it my all for many years and and was/am disturbed by the things you mentioned.
I often think about the fact that we're in the 2020's. It was inconceivable in the 1980's that "this system" would go beyond 2000 and, really, even 1994 (80yrs from 1914). I think we tend to forget what the JW mindset was back then. Back in the late 80's or early 90's, A JW friend told me of a nonJW he knew who was planning to make money on the Olympics that were scheduled to be held in Atlanta in 1996 (by selling T-shirts). That JW friend and I laughed because we thought "this system" would be gone by then. There was no way those Olympics games would ever occur.
Well, about the year 2016, I was sent to Florida to do some work for a few days. On the way back, I was heading toward the state of Georgia on an interstate highway. As I got almost to the Georgia border, I saw a "Welcome to Georgia" sign. At the bottom was "Home of the 1996 Olympics." It hit me hard. It was 20 years, not beyond our laughing at the guy for wanting to make money, but 20 years beyond the Olympic Games themselves. At that point in time, those Olympics that we thought would never occur were old news. Thinking of that depressed me.
It is now 20-damned-23. JWs were wrong - black and white wrong. We weren't supposed to be here now. If in, for example, the 1980's, a JW had persisted in saying that this system would still be here in 2020, he would have been disfellowshipped.
"These brothers mean well."
I think most of them mean well, too, however, so do many people in other religions. Even though they mean well, they are lacking in something. They don't have the "three H's" that JWs sometimes refer to (hunger, honesty, humility) to a degree large enough to allow them to see the real truth and leave the cult. They might be lacking in well-rounded intelligence. Sure, I know some who have intelligence, but it takes well-rounded intelligence to see the real truth. Many are delusional. And, even though they mean well, they are condescending. They think they are in a high place and are stooping down to pull us out of the depths were are in. To them, we are either weak or evil or some combination of the two.
I probably differ from you in the feelings I have towards the cult and those still in. I wish JWdom were what I thought it was in the 1980's. I miss the feelings of security, the hope for the future, etc. However, I detest the org now, and I have little sympathy for any who support it. The evidence mounts against it daily. I repeat what I've already stated... those who are still in (the adults) are flawed in some way. There's no way an honest, intelligent person, who really loves truth could not see something majorly wrong with the GB, the failed predictions, the dumbing down, the decrease in literature, the weakening ministry, etc.
It's going to be interesting to watch the cult over the next few years to see what happens to it.Wish you well.

No more public WT & Awake?
by mikeflood inhave you guys noticed, this year 2023 no more public edition magazines...i wonder how they are gonna spin that fact.

Back in my day as a JW, we received 48 32-page mags per years and were instructed to read them cover-to-cover. I hate the fact that I wasted so much of my life reading such. I could have spent that time reading stuff that would benefit me now.
Back then, attending the Congregation Book Study and reading all the magazines were supposedly vital to our spirituality and survival. Now the Book Study is gone and the mags almost don't exist anymore. What happened? Also, pioneer hours are half of what I had to do.
At this point in time (the last minute of the last days), the org, the preaching work, etc. should be at their peak (think: Israelites marching around Jericho), yet they are weakening. The org might linger on in some small way, but I see it dying. The heyday is over.

WingCommander: "It's really hard to convey to anyone not alive during that time just how it was constantly drummed into our heads that we'd never get old, never even get to high school (much less graduate from it) and walk into the New Order waaaaaay before the year 2000 even."
So true! I was there; I know. I graduated almost two decades before you and prominent JWs in my area told my nonJW dad that I would never get a driver's license or graduate from high school in "this system."
Around the year 1990, I knew of a guy who was going to try to make money on the Olympics that were to be held in Atlanta in 1996 by selling T-shirts. A JW friend and I laughed at that because "this system" was to be gone by then. A few years ago, I had been sent to Florida to work for a few days. As I was driving North on I-95 from Florida to pass through Georgia, I saw a "Welcome to Georgia" sign right at the Fla/Ga border. In big letters on the sign was "Home of the 1996 Olympics." That was 2016 or later, so it was close to 30 years after we laughed at the thought of the Olympics' occurring in 1996, and it was at least (probably more than) 20 years since the Olympics occurred in Atlanta.
Seeing that sign hit me hard and reminded me of the JW mindset back in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's.

TD: "A JW veterinarian pointed out to them..."
Any way I can get more info about that? Is he still a JW?
The subject of animal predation and when animals started preying on each other was an issue that almost prevented me from getting baptized as a JW 40 years ago. I just never could accept the JW teaching that animals didn't start preying on each other until after the supposed rebellion in the Garden of Eden (or after the flood). There was just too much evidence that they had been preying on each other for millions of years. There are so many examples of offensive and defensive capabilities in nature that couldn't have just developed in a few thousand years. Every animal I can think of has some kind of offensive or defensive capability or both. And, the defenses indicate predation since such wouldn't be needed if there were no predation. Predation is a fundamental part of the workings of the whole of the biosphere.

FFGhost: "The Most Boring Human On The Planet, Ken Cook".
OMG, the dude just needs to stop. He is off the charts boring.
FFGhost: ““Soon! Very soon!” as if it were the first time in recorded history that the WTS had used those words, instead of it being a repeat of their message for well over a literal century."
I cannot believe he would say that as if it were going to excite anybody. You are right; they've been saying that for over a century. I heard it as a small child five or six decades ago, and it was worn out then.

Blotty: People are going to make surface level arguments to try and playdown or discredit them just because they don't like them for one reason or another
"Just because they don't like them for one reason or another?" Huh? You make the dislike some have for the org seem to be light and trivial. I hate the org. Allow me to briefly tell you why. I was strongly indoctrinated beginning at around age 5. When I was 11, I had to take to an aptitude/IQ test to get into a private school. I scored the highest grade ever scored and the school indicated that I could do whatever I wanted in life. HOWEVER, school officials had no idea I was strongly indoctrinated into an endtimes religion.
I had great potential that was stolen from me. I trusted the many older JW authority figures who strongly influenced me. The religion seemed to make sense back then. I was one who was concerned about suffering, injustice, and other issues. I was also one who was willing to sacrifice for what he believed in and thought was right.
Therefore, I lost the prime of my life to the religion and organization. I suffered and sacrificed and lived in misery and poverty for decades serving the org full-time, doing menial part-time secular work just to survive.
I feel that those who misled me back then, including many org leaders, were sincere. However, the org is today deceptive and cold and self-serving. It is still trying to steal lives as it did mine. Every day I am slapped in the face by the fact that I was a JW for decades. I will never escape the effects. I have zero contact with close relatives (all JWs) with whom I was once close, including my own mother. They think I'm either weak or evil or a combination of the two.
I have no children because I listened to the org. If I don't just drop dead, I will end up in an old dreary nursing home with no one to check on me or give a damn. I was promised that by now I would have long been in paradise.
I hate the org and want to see it crash and burn.
