found this video of the entertainment preperation for the delegates in atlanta, u.s. this seems to be professionally done maybe outside sources or probably done by "professional" jw's.

this is just like christendom or all the other religious organizations that they deem to be from the devil.

At about 4:04, sissy-boy says “Jehovah just handed this theater to us”. Un-freakin-believable. Well, if his god is concerned about handing them the Buckhead Theater while millions of his creatures, both humans and animals, suffer in horrible ways, then I want no part of his god and consider his god to be petty and heartless. That statement really burns my a$$ up. Being an animal lover, I have sometimes stayed up all night with dying animals. It's a horrible thing to watch a precious kitten having spasms as it approaches death. I have begged and implored Jah for help with tears streaming down my face. And every single time there was no answer. I've had many animals die in my arms. Jah must not be able to help out with such things because he's too busy booking theaters for a bunch of clueless goody-goodies.

It seems that with the passing of time, JWs become less serious; their sense of urgency seems to diminish. Most of earth's population is about to be wiped out in a mega-cataclysm (according to them), and they're concerned about this kind of stuff???

we all know the cliche that "men never really listen or sympathise, they just try to solve or fix things"?.

often people just need to vent or discuss issues..."get them off their chest".

i have noticed that jws are just like a thoughtless cliched man..... when speaking with people in the community, they don't really listen, they just look for a way to solve the issue!.

True. Sometimes when I'm griping and complaining, I'm not really looking for a fix, I just want to vent; I just want a hearing ear. I hate it when people just half listen and then start throwing out the supposed fixes. My supervisor is like that. When I complain to her about things, she starts formulating an answer before I even finish (Prov 18:13). She can't possibly be really paying attention to what I'm saying. It's frustrating. And her "fixes" are never fixes; they're always stuff I know more about than she does.

Often, when people are so quick to offer fixes, they're trivializing or making light of the issue. I remember one time hearing a JW woman talking about her painful arthritis. An elder who doesn't even know what arthritis is told her to take some bee pollen and then walked off into the sunset as if he had solved the problem. The JW looked at me like "WTF?" He just made her chronic issue seem so trivial by offering his easy "fix."

And, as you said, JWs are like that. They don't really want to hear people's problems. They just want to point to their fix. I was just telling my wife about an hour ago about all the bums that approach me at work and ask for money. I mentioned one in particular that approached me Tuesday. He walked up and started asking a few questions about the work I was doing. He didn't really like look a bum, so I thought he was sincere and I answered his questions. Then it started: "You know, I've only been in town for about a week and I'm looking for work. Could you spare...?"

I told my wife that that's similar to what JWs do. They walk up to people's houses and try to start conversations, feigning interest in people's lives. They're not really interested, just as that bum was not really interested in my work. JWs just use that phony, insincere conversation stuff to get to their real goal of introducing their easy "fix".

These sorts of displays make me pine for the 1960s and 70s Witnesses when deported themselves with a kind of hard-nosed, contained decorum when out in public - at least it demonstrated they were trying to use "reason" - and not emotion - to defend their beliefs.

Nowadays, they are a couple of cartoons away from the cheery-eyed disneyfication of their religion.

I've been thinking for a while that I miss those old days when JWs seemed more serious and dignified. I think that in those days JWs really felt they were doctrinally right and that they could back up their doctrine. Now, they're not sure. They can no longer defend themselves. So they can't carry themselves in a dignified, serious, hard-nosed manner. They are becoming more of a social group trying to be more mainstream, and yes, they are becoming more disneyfied.

2014 Annual Meeting not being streamed worldwide?

i haven't heard a peep about the 2014 annual meeting being shown worldwide (or at least across north america) like it was last year.

they made a big deal with the am last year, congs had to get the projectors and screens for the showing, and we were told in advance of the time and location to attend.

but i have heard absolutely nothing this year, at least here in canada.

Richard_I, I was wondering the same thing. I don't know why, but I kind of had it in my head that the Annual Meeting was going to become the new big event or highlight of the year every year. I thought it was going to be streamed live every year. I thought it was going to become the new occasion for the release of "new light". I'm kind of disappointed. I thought this fall might bring some more changes that would be interesting to analyze and observe.

By far, the majority of the spankings that I've seen administered are done so out of at least some anger and loss of temper or control on the part of the parent. Such spankings (often beatings) send wrong signals and are not constructive. When I was a child there was a couple in our book study who each week would angrily snatch either their son or daughter of both out of the room and literally drag him/her/them outside by one arm and spank him/her/them. The screaming could be heard in the house. Those children had no respect for the parents; they did not view the parents as loving authority figures. Those parents were weak. The discipline as adminstered accomplished nothing good. The relationship was not healthy or wholesome; it was destructive.

If a parent is going to spank, then he should definitely wait for a period of time after the offense is committed to make sure he's not spanking in anger or because of loss of temper. Then he should calmly explain in a constructive manner why he is administering discipline, and the discipline should be administered in a controlled manner. It should be obvious to the child that the parent is in complete control of himself and is constructively disciplining - not just acting out of anger. However, I'm not even for that.

There are some parents who are so good at being parents that they are viewed as loving authority figures by their children. These parents are strong in all the right ways, yet loving, kind, understanding, fun, patient, etc. A strong word from these parents can accomplish more than a thousand beatings. Children want to please and learn from parents like these and don't want to disappoint them. Sure these children are going to err, but when they do, often just a few words from parents like these can be plenty of discipline. The whole parent/child relationship has to be wholesome, healthy, loving, constructive, & kind. Constructive ways of discipline not involving striking/spanking can be found in such relationships.

First, are you calling me a "typical isolated JW"? How the hell would you be able to so confidently call me such judging from a few words of mine? I'm not typical, I'm not isolated, and I'm no more JW than you are. I'm also not naive. Now leave off the logically fallacious argumentum ad hominem.

Some of you folks so lack comprehension. So you quote the Michael Brown case to make your point, eh? Well, look back and see what you correctly quoted me as saying; I said cops are "not supposed to" beat, etc. under normal disciplinary circumstances. Of course some do, but they're not supposed to. You do realize that the case you quoted is not a typical case of a cop's disciplining an offender, don't you? You do realize that the case caused a national uproar, don't you? Or are you so isolated and naive that you don't know that?

Yeah, consider the Michael Brown case. If Michael Brown had surrendered, then the cop was wrong and should be punished. So that case has no application to the concept of spanking children. If Michael Brown was wrong and was attacking the cop in a life-threatening manner, then the cop was justified, but the case still would have no application to the issue of spanking children. Most cases of child spanking don't involve a threat to the life of the spanking parent. You are referring to extreme cases. If cops were allowed to legally spank or inflict punishment on offenders such as speeders, then the situation would be applicable. But cops are not supposed to inflict physical punishment under normal disciplinary circumstances.

No they won't; at least they're not supposed to. If one breaks the law in the U.S., he is not supposed to receive a spanking. He is supposed to be punished, but not by any hands-on physical means such as spanking. Cops can use force in some situations, but so can marines in combat. Such situations aren't necessarily applicable to the parent/child situation.

I say that jwfact's illustration about the boss is applicable; the cop illustration is not. The boss/employer relationship is much more similar to the parent/child relationship than the cop/bank robber relationship.

millions have died in africa from civil wars where the governments have squandered money on bombs guns and tanks, whilst allowing millions more to die of malaria, diarrhoea and other treatable diseases.

thousands more have died in nigeria from religious killing than ebola.. and now big bad america is the one they all turn to (in mainly muslim countries) to save them, just like kuwait did in 1991.

The U.S. gets bad-mouthed, yet so many look to it for assistance. The U.S. does a disproportionate amount of the helping in the world.

Why do you call the U.S. military "bloated"? Are you saying the U.S. military is oversized? Do you know what would happen if the U.S. didn't carry a big stick?
