For me personally, I blame my parents and the society for the lack of importance that education held for me. Education was not something that was ever a priority in our lives. After the 7th grade, my mother let me take a year off of school, telling my school that I was home-schooled. The next year, I had to go back and do the 8th gade, and so was a year behind. What kind of message is that to send to a 12 year old? After I went back, my parents would pick me up early whenever I wanted, or let me stay home quite often. Of course, I also lived in a very abusive home, and got pregnant at the age of 15, so my reasons for not going to college then were extensive, but yes, I do blame my parents for most of them and in turn, to a certain degree, the attitude of the WTBTS towards education, for basically giving people like my parents permission to raise their children that way.

College and EX-JW Discontent....Questions and Stats
by teenyuck in*many* ex-jws say that they were robbed of an education due to the wtbts and as a result, they feel that their families and the wt screwed up their life by depriving them of the opportunity to go to college and therefore, earn a high salary at a job they love.
here is a link to the us census which shows that approximately 26% of the us population graduates college.
page 5, towards the bottom, shows the college graduation stats.

by ISP inprobe into jehovah's witness's death after crash.
a jehovah's witness who suffered internal injuries in a motorbike crash died after refusing a blood transfusion.
jonathan everett, 22, told staff at bury general that he would not take any blood products before undergoing an emergency operation.

This is so sad...children who needed to belong so bad...Of COURSE they would go along with whatever would make them accepted by their new "family". I would think that the blood issue would be a major issue with the Witnesses fostering, but....I guess not.

Oh, okay...Thanks! I was talking to a JW "friend" of mine today (I put quotation marks because I know she would not continue to talk to me if I told her how I felt), and she said she had come across some stupid apostate site that was by that nephew of a GB member who wrote a book about the JW's....All I had heard was that he was a GB member...Gotta get that book!! :)

Something really creepy is that some crazy witness guy who was stalking my sister (a former witness) put her face on another woman's body and put an ad on there for her...Then he had an imaginary relationship with her, in which he checked her email (we have no idea how-she hardly knew the guy) and threatened her boyfriends....Very bizarre....

she is marrying a catholic, after being raised a witness, but she has been living with him for over a year, so she has not been approved of by my parents for a while.

My sister is getting married on July 27th. She is marrying a Catholic, after being raised a Witness, but she has been living with him for over a year, so she has not been approved of by my parents for a while. As the black sheep of the family myself, I have helped her to get over the needing to please the parents thing and see that she will never be able to. Well....she called me in tears because not only is my stepfather (her father) NOT going to walk her down the aisle (the wedding isn't even at a church), my brother has some misgivings about it AND my mother has given her this huge lecture about how she hoped they weren't going to have a prayer at the wedding, because that would be wrong...Oh, she also expressed disgust that my sister is going to have me and the best man read a scripture from the bible....It's just sad, you know? What is supposed to be the best day of my sister's life is being used to hurt her so they can get across their point...One funny thing is that my birthday is two days before the wedding, so I am going to fly into Indiana on Thursday and then we are going to go celebrate my birthday Friday night, while my mom babysits my youngest! Wonder if she'll even realize what day it is?

Did any of you ever read the book Dead Man Walking-it was very different from the movie-not really so much about one man's story as the death penalty in general. Anyway, you may find this hard to believe, but it costs more tax dollars to kill them. I personally am against the death penalty, but a good part of the reason for that is that I think it is too easy to just "put them to sleep". I would rather they have to survive in prison for the rest of their lives. JMHO.
BUT if I did ever hear of a case that I would want the person to have the death penalty-I have to say it would be this one. I can understand initial panic-especially on drugs when nothing seems real...but the next day when she had a dying man in her garage or whatever. It is one of the most horrible things I have ever heard...WHY does this stuff always happen in Texas???.

Although I have not lived as a JW for years-I moved out of my parents home when I was just 16-I have still had that part of me that was terrified. Terrified that my daughter would be killed at Armageddon because I had not raised her as a Witness, terrified that they may be "the truth", etc...I started posting on this site-well, more reading than posting at this point- but basically because of all of the info I have found here that has been proving to me to be the truth. I have always felt that the organization was very cult-like, but to really see that has been enormously helpful to me, and then to see their doctrines disproved over and over has also been a great help in allowingm e to officially get past it.
