Why Armageddon Now?
by Garrett ini've been thinking and here's what i've come up with.
correct me if i'm wrong, but in the bible does it not state that the word would have to be preached throughout the entire inhabited earth for a witness to all people and then the end would come?.
with the world being as vast as it is today, it would be practically impossible for the witnesses to speak to everyone in the world.

Apostle Paul expected armagedon to come in the FIRST CENTURY: "These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come."--1 Corinthians 10:11 -

The very concept of apostates (or paganism) is at the root of problem. Religion can thrive only on such notions, yet they have to fail in their proclaimed goal. Because it is cosmic law that EGO (whether individual or collective) must fail. -

Tower of Babel—unlikely to be a true account!

come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.

Footnote.
*We have in the history example of people who have selflessly helped others to progress in life*. One such spectacular example is of India’s living legendary singer Dr. K J Jesusdas (who was disfellowshed from Catholic Church for singing devotional songs of other religions—an act that led him into Hinduism http://www.drkjyesudas.com/). His message is his life. His father died leaving him only financial liabilities. When he wanted to learn classical music, and sought financial help from his Diocesan Bishop, he was sent back in ridicule. But he came up in life by his own effort, and became almost like an Emperor among singers in India. He was being given all the awards for the best singers, finally he decided not to accept any awards from any organization so that others receive them. Now he even decided to stay away from singing for films so that new comers would have opportunities.
Now something in particular. When he became very busy, all his studio recordings were done without him, but with his part being sung by a substitute (track singer). Then later, Jesusdas would come and sing, and replace the portion sung by the substitute. In the final mixing, it will look as if it was sung with all the orchestra at the same time! One day when he heard the recording of the song sung by the substitute, he found it was perfect., and requested the Film Director to accept that song sung by the substitute for the film, which gave rise to another famous singer Mr. Unni Menon (http://www.unnimenonsinger.com/).

When His children want to construct “a tower that reaches to the heavens,” Heavenly Father is UNLIKELY to respond, saying: “nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” (Gen 11:6, 7)
If this account is true, that would mean God is envious of His own creation (lower beings) which is intrinsically impossible. We have in the history many examples of people who have selflessly helped others to progress in life. [One is given below as footnote]
If some of humans (who were created in God’s image) could appreciate and help others to progress, how much more God would do the same! He would only be too happy to help His children accomplish their goals. This shows the Bible account of Tower of Babel and subsequent confusing of the language may have never happened. [Moreover, effect of confusing of language extends to rest of the humanity who are no way connected with the incident—what a wastage and global difficulty it caused—something God will unlikely do]. Here God is portrayed as one who intervenes in the affairs of mankind for a WRONG and debased cause! Hence such account must be interpolation.
For God to intervene in the affairs of mankind, there should be sufficient reason! God knows the message humans in general send out through their action. They turn to God only when they are in some need (which means they don’t need God when things go well with them). In other words, God needs to intervene only when humanity as a whole faces its extinction! That means we are now in the last days!
When we saw the effect of Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombings, we thought this may be the way world would end sometime in the future. Now we know that even without another World War and even without the use of any bombs, global warming (due to our reckless pollution and deforestation) would do that job. Root-cause is unlikely to change—the change that has come in our relationships (with fellow humans, God and nature)—common thread is exploitation!

When does God intervene in the affairs of mankind?
by abiather inthough many sages have tried to describe god and his purpose, the best they could do was to declare neti, neti (not this, not this).

Cofty,
You use the word SCIENCE as if it is an ultimate weapon near which no one can come talking about intuition. Even Einstein has gone on record saying intuition preceded most of his scientific accomplishments!
For an intuitive mind, whether it is the individual human body or the larger cosmic body, essentially, they are made of five elements – earth, water, fire, air and space. In this, the first four elements are the active participants – space is the catalytic force. It is in the lap of this boundless space that these four elements play the game. So, the pancha bhutas are the five elements of nature.
What you call “myself” is just a mischief of these five elements. If you want to realize the full potential of this mechanism that you call a human being or if you want to transcend this one and become one with the larger, cosmic mechanism, you need their cooperation. Unless you have a certain amount of mastery over these five elements you cannot enjoy life.
If these five elements don’t cooperate, you can struggle as much as you want, nothing happens. Only with their cooperation, from the basic aspects to the highest aspect, your life becomes a possibility. This human system is like a doorway. A door has two aspects to it – if you are always facing closed doors, for you doors mean that which stops you. If doors are opening up for you, then for you a door means a possibility of entering into something. In either case, it is the same door; which side of the door you are on decides everything about your life, even in terms of time and space. Whether you experience this body as a great possibility or a great barrier simply depends on the extent these five elements are cooperating.
Whether this individual physical body becomes a stepping stone for your ultimate possibility or a hurdle towards that essentially depends on how you are able to deal with these five elements. What you are right now is just a little bit of earth, water, air and temperature. All the ingredients are out there in the garden; it just takes a little divine touch to make these four things into a throbbing human being.

Cofty,
Five elements are the part of the intuitive explanations of the physical structure of the world! It’s more of philosophical than physical.
Look at our bodies! We find in them solids, liquids, body-heat, air-circulation and space (or ether) they all occupy. Human body is exact representation of the physical world we find outside. Hence the ancient people taught physical world—including our physical bodies—are made of panchabhoothas (five basic or primordial elements): Land, Water, Fire, Air and Ether (or space—for example atoms are 99.999999999999 % empty space; and universe too is more of space than objects floating in it) and is called prapancha (meaning the play and interaction of the five elements) in Sanskrit.
The point I wanted to highlight was not the division into 5 elements, but their relationship with each other. These five elements are individually inimical to each other. For example, water of oceans can swallow earth, fire can evaporate the water, air can suck fire … etc. Yet they are collectively supportive, working for the sustenance of all inanimate and animate beings. Thus they make our lives enjoyable! This is a silent lesson the five elements teach the intelligent humans that they should be more and more supportive to each other despite the diverse variety in their geography, race, religion, nationality, thinking, attitude, likes and dislikes!
These five physical elements have their emergent properties or corresponding sensations: Smell, Taste, Light, Sound and Pressure (or touch). And there are five corresponding sense-organs in living beings to experience them: Nose, Tongue, Eyes, Ears and Skin. We can list living beings into five general categories: ONE-SENSED Plants able to feel pressure through their skin; TWO-SENSED Worms able to feel pressure through their skin and taste through their tongue; THREE-SENSED Insects able to feel pressure, taste, and smell through their skin, tongue and nose respectively; FOUR-SENSED Reptiles able to feel pressure, taste, smell and sight through their skin, tongue, nose and eyes respectively; and FIVE-SENSED Birds & Animals able to feel pressure, taste, smell, sight and sound through their skin, tongue, nose, eyes and ears respectively.
Hence, better not to get struck with the word. Neither ether nor space is a correct translation of the Sanskrit word akash! Interestingly, no one has coined a correct word so far! In sanskrit, akash means much more than space!

Enjoyed your wit. Yet it conceals the frustration that God will never intervene in the affairs of mankind. He will at the appropriate time.
When Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed, people thought the world will end one day in a massive use of bombs of all types. Now emission into the atmosphere by our industries and automobiles are going to do the work of ending the civilization on earth sooner than expected. Before that happens, God would intervene!

Though many sages have tried to describe God and his purpose, the best they could do was to declare neti, neti (not this, not this). To the question of God, even Buddha responded with silence! Jesus declared: “Truth will set you free” but did not say what that truth is! (John 8:31) Context of this verse shows that he was evasive even to the question ‘who are you?” (John 8:25) He did not use his super-human skill to prove the existence of God in a way that would satisfy everyone—including atheists and agnostics. If God were to use any book, he would have used a small book with minimum verses of absolute simplicity and clarity ruling out all the possibility for scholars to interpret it for others!
With scriptures giving often conflicting views, people are left to make their conclusion about God taking into consideration certain mysteries/contradictions such as:1) He gifts life that is dying every moment.
2) He has left his creation on its own, yet each is required to reap what he sows.
3) He has endowed man with qualities that can either be increased to resemble Him or be decreased to resemble lower beings.
4) He may not act/respond as His creation expects. For example, Judas Iscariot (who reflected the haste of Jews of his time to see the Roman yoke to be lifted) perhaps thought Jesus would use his superhuman powers if he is pushed into being arrested by the Romans. Jesus too expected God would save him at the last moment (He cried: “Father, why have you forsaken me?”)
5) The general divisions of nature (ether, air, fire, water, earth) are made mutually inimical but generously sustain life.
6) He allows even those who deny His existence to live and enjoy life.
Behind this facade, there must be a grand purpose—something which religious leaders could not understand. This means He wants us to discern His purpose for us ourselves. Throughout history, there have always been a few who chose to lead a saintly life (proving, everyone could do the same if they choose to do so which explains why God does not have to intervene in the affairs of mankind) !
His intervention becomes a must only if humans mismanage things to the extent of total destruction! -

Bible is true in some vital matters!
by abiather inwhile there are many interpolations in the bible (such as john 3:13 .... .. ) which can be ignored, there are very meaningful verses too in the bible such as ecclesiastes 4:1; 8:9 which states: man has authority over another to his detriment, they have no comforter; power was on the side of their oppressors..
let us make a comparison of humans (in general) with lower beings, or even with inanimate things!
many people earn, spend, sleep, and finally go into the deep sleep of death, which is no way better than that of a stone or any animate being, which remains unaware of its self, origin, objective of life, final destination and macrocosmic surroundings.
