this topic is prompted by a phrase used by darth rutherford in his excellent life story.
he said that jw's sit there nodding their heads at what is said from the platform, and, i paraphrase, :.
"they do not know why they believe as they do, but they are prepared to die for those beliefs".. i feel strongly that jw's in this position, and it is only a very few who can explain and attempt to justify their beliefs, are the same as radicalised muslims.. these islamists, mainly young men, can spout slogans, and can sometimes even explain what their beliefs are in a half-arsed way, but thay cannot explain, in words that actually make rational sense, why they believe as they do.. jehovah's witnesses are, in the main, exactly the same.
Most who question nothing I agree can't explain their beliefs. But I think that some JWs when it comes to life and death situations wake up and really examine the guidance they are given. Sad to say many just die for the cause.
It's a shame they are indoctrinated so severly, but it's a cult and that's what happens in cults.

so it's' been 8 months since i was disfellowshiped.
i moved out of my mothers house accross the country to room with a friend.
things have been going ok, it's just strange to be so far away from everything that felt familiar, even the meetings.
Thank you for your post, and your openess. I feel the same way some days. It's a constant struggle, I am fearful of the future too. But I do have some blessings, so I keep reminding myself of these. But it still hurts. The abuse runs deep. I tried to get RI'd 5 times and atteneded all the meetings for over a year, they just kept saying no, then I learned TTATT and realised I had no where to go. I have been trying to build a life ever since. It has not been without challenges.

Interesting read. It's amazing to see the lengths some will go to, to disparage an individuals character. They said she had poor study habits, when in fact her study habits were better that most and that's how she discovered it was a scam.

once the spell is broken, one you take a deep fresh breath outisde of the watchtower camp, the amazingly obvious realisation becomes clear.... of course this is a lie, of course this is ridiculous!
you find you have memories of really believing the claims and promises, but it seems like another life, another experience.
it seems so incredibly false once you leave and it is very difficult to belive you even once accepted it!

Really great post. I can really resonate with it. I suppose I am still under the spell in a way, I know I haven't fully broken free although I want to. I know I need to do something pro active to move on from WT and post less on JWN.
My friend who has left still believes it's "The truth", so she is under the spell more so than me. I am slowly trying to teach her TTATT, but it's a delicate exercise. I have to take it slowly.
It's a process of recovery.

for 2 years, soon after my daughter's baptism, i have been exchanging many emails with an elder of her congregation.
good man, but he is a jw and he just drove me to the brink of madness recently; that was the drop the spill the water.
it's a cult.
I am sorry to hear about your daughter, I am glad you have hope she will wake up to the nonsense of WT, I hope she does too. Thank you for showing concern for us damaged ones who have exited and sre trying to exit.

i never was a jw - i was raised in the gospel hall tradition (i.e.
fundamentalist evangelical) where every male (not you, sisters) was encouraged to be their own bible scholar.

i have come to the conclusion that posting here and visiting this site is not healthy for me anymore.
i just get angry and upset when i read all the stories of injustice and corruption that go on in the jehovahs witness religion.
they are true no doubt, as i have personally experienced many injustices and abuses in my life from being a witness.
