  does anyone have the article written by the wt saying that the end would come in 1975?.

  how did people back then come to this year?

  i need this information becuase i was told, this was never literally written by the wt in any publication.. thanks.

  I gave you a quote from jwfacts.com. I understand that you haven't got time to do lots of research all at once and get all the answers you need. Take it in small steps. If you want out the WT, you need to make sure you stay out. Research and reading is the best way.

  i've always wondered that.

  recently i asked that question on another thread and didn't really get ananswer.

  cofty made an excellent point that we often hear what it isn't, but that really isn't useful.. so, what is it?

  Apologies if I did not make myself understood. I am not telling people they are lacking. I am simply putting across my opinion why some grasp the concept of the spirit being the animating force in living things and others do not grasp it.

  I apologise if I come across as being arrogant, no one is lacking. They just share a different view of why people don't accept the statement spirit is the animating force in living things. However there are few these days who willfully do not want to look at another perspective than their own. This is willful ignorance. However I am not insinuating anyone is being willfully ignorant either, just expressing that it exists.

  Here is a quote from Awake Oct 8th 1966

  "Does God's rest day parallel the time man has been on earth since his creation? Apparently so. In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of Gods rest day come to an end? The year 1975. It means that within a relatively few years we will witness the fulfilment of the remaining prophecies that have to do with the "time of the end"." Awake! 1966 Oct 8 pp.19-20

  Kate, please don't insinuate other posters are stupid. This has nothing to do with an ability make higher order abstractions. So far, no one has been able to say what spirit is made of except to claim it's a metaphor for something else. There is no abtraction to make so far.-Viv

  The ability to make higher order abstractions has nothing to do with intellect. I was not insinuating posters are stupid, just not as able as others in this area. We all have stengths and weaknesses. Many very intelligent people are concrete thinkers and this ability can put them at an advantage in some aspects of life, whereas the ability to make higher order abstractions can put people at an advantage in a different way, in different aspects of life.

  In general I am a concrete thinker and that's why I am good at chemistry, in social situations I am an abstract thinker, due to my AS though I don't keep my thoughts to myself when perhaps I should. The point is, those that say there is no evidence for spirit want concrete evidence and sometimes use intellectual intimidation to make their point, whereas those who look beyond the evidence and read between the lines do have certain abilities that should be recognised.

  People who believe in the spirit of life are not stupid either.

  Human Rights -ignored often, not far reaching enough, more than often.

  human rights are clearly laid out in a number of places, and are upheld by legislation in many nations, and yet they are ignored, or when they are invoked, do not go far enough.. this is a sad state of affairs in the 21st century.. human rights are simply trodden in to the ground where we have war, where we have totalitarian regimes, and where we have ignorant clerics who rule.. even in enlightened countries that broadly accept the principles of human rights, they often are not given the priority they should receive.. take freedom of religion for example, this right should enshrine the right to freedom from religion.

  the fact that we in the u.k, canada the u.s.a, europe etc etc are unable to really be free of the wt/jw religion if we wish to choose to do so shows this right is unenforceable at present.. the same with the right to family life, the jw/wt cult is allowed to ride roughshod over this basic human right.. it is time their power, and the power of religion in general, was reigned in, and they be made to respect human rights fully..

  I agree phizzy, human rights laws, are just not enforced, and when the laws are broken the punishment is not evident. Having laws in place is one thing, enforcing them is quite another. The British police aren't going to enforce and breach of a human rights law, they don't even enforce a legally binding family contact order.

  There needs to be government appointed authorities to enforce certain laws. But that will just cost money, and they don't want to spend anymore.

  What's the difference between exJWs who FLOURISH and those that don't?

  quite a few here on jwn seem to have grown and developed in leaps and bounds, sometimes beyond their wildest dreams.. others seem to still be struggling.. what do you think makes it possible to flourish?.

  the degree to which our mind has been liberated from watchtower thinking?.

  if so, this seems to happen in many different ways, so what is the secret?.

  The WTBTS has done everything possible not to encourage the JW's to personally flourish. It is against all of their polices and admonitions. Everything is discouraged except for meetings, FS assemblies and studying the WT publications.-Giordano

  we are getting a much better picture of how a living brain works.-jgnat

  I have seen sci-fi stuff about reading the thought patterns of the brain. e.g. red glow for happy and green for sad. But the article just explains how LHC is made not really how it works. Very interesting though.
