the publications talk about how "happy and refreshed" witnesses always are.
was that your experience?
The thrice weekly verbal beating always refreshed me NOT. I used to get the most excruciating headaches imaginable on Sundays, and I mean every Sunday. After a long week of not being good enough (probably you might be saved) my Sunday headaches were always the grand finale.
Just thinking about the pain makes me sick to my stomach even after all these years.

As always, thank you so much for your response! Perhaps I should contact an NA group for advice? I am afraid of being an enabler, but these are people I love very much and I want to be there for them, but in a way that will genuinely help them.

as a long time poster on other message boards.
i have often noticed, that despite the topic, there are always certain personalities on each.
i guess it is kind of like the congregation, in that no matter what one you were in, there were characters that matched up with the one you left.
I enjoyed reading the list, but it does seem like most of the categories have a negative spin. Am I taking it wrong? What I got out of it is that each type of poster does something wrong. The list made me feel embarrassed when I saw myself described in any of the categories.

i'm new to this forum and i am in desparate need of help.
i recently started a new job and i just found out that my new employer is a witness kid.
in fact, i made the big mistake of talking about the jw's although i did not reveal that i am one.
Well honey, I believe that this may be a valuable lesson. I learned the hard way to keep my mouth shut, because you never know who you are talking to in a new environment. Now you know. The old saying "It's a small world" applies here. I agree that you should let it drop. If he approaches you about it, be polite and discreetly let him realize that you don't want to talk about it. Don't come out and say it though, just sort of let it fizzle. Just give it a sort of lack of interest approach.
Go to work on Monday with a list of interesting subjects to talk about, or bring a good book to read on your break, if he approaches you and brings up the subject, let him talk a little and then gently steer the conversation to your memorized list of fascinating subjects or the really great book you are reading.

I have two family members who have been addicted to methamphetamine for a long time. Can they kick the habit themselves, do they need treatment? I believe they are trying to stop on their own. What should I do or say. They have both been living a lie for so long, their lives have been a web of lies for so long that I don't know how to act or what to say around them.
Anyone know anything about it? How much damage does long term use cause? I have so many questions. I have looked at some websites about the subject and they seem to describe worst-case scenarios and violent behavior on the part of the addict, I haven't seen that kind of behavior, but I know the problem is very serious.
What can I do?

i came here looking for answers to my questions and doubts.
When I first came here I was on a mission. I was so overjoyed to find this website, well I just can't tell you because I don't have the words to describe the feeling. My mission was to find the truth and I did. I also found joy and heartbreak and all the other things that come with being an Ex JW.
As far as sniping and griping and anything mean or negative, I never saw it or if I did it never registered because I did not allow anything to deter me.
This place healed a wound that had been open since 1989!!
Maybe you have to be ready. Maybe your relatives weren't ready. Please don't be angry with the people here. I don't believe for one minute that anyone here would intentionally drive anyone away.

Sorry about your brother. My older brother is gone too, but only from this earth. He lives on in my heart. Perry I love you so much and I miss you. I wish I could have helped you but I was only a little girl. Even though I feel you in my heart I only wish I could hug you one more time.
I guess this turned into a letter to my brother, sorry it just sort of happened.

my brother went to bethel as a teenager and was disfellowshipped and sent home.
he tried to toe the line and after 6 months the local congregation recommended reinstatement.
bethel didn't like that idea.

Hmmm, "this generation apparently refers . . ." According to the American Heritage Dictionary the word apparently means " Appearing as such but not neccessarily so" How interesting that the new light in 1995 left plenty of wiggle room.
