my mom had her valve replacement and triple by-pass surgery today.
the operation lasted five hours, and they had just gotten her to her room at 8:00pm when she went into cardiac arrest.
the doctor tried everything, even opening up her chest and massaging her heart.
Karen,
I am so very sorry.

one of the paragraphs read that 'if in the area where you live you need higher education after you graduate, then the young person must speak with the parents in order to help them balance the schedule so that he/she doesn't neglect spiritual things'.
alright, i thought, that's a somewhat balanced point of view; i thought, good they're coming along with the times we live in.
yeah, right!!!
To the Witnesses an education is a very dangerous thing. You are in danger of learning the truth. During the course of an education the student may find out that the JW's are just another religion. They learn that religion was originally a concept created by humans to help explain how their environment worked, for example if a disease began to spread through family or community, it must be that the Gods or Spirits need to be appeased.
Then when higher concentrations of people began living in ever larger groups, a government was needed to run things. The spiritual was then used by governments to help control the people. Social norms are cultivated and enforced through religion. Learning these things could weaken the hold that the JW's have on their people.
I scares the stuffings out of GB.
It would certainly be easier to control an uneducated window washer than a well educated professional now wouldn't it? So the people must be kept ingnorant and in danger of poverty, because poverty keeps them humble and in need.

my ex is dying and my four children are to lose their father.
yes, they are grown (26-20), but still too young to lose their father.
also, he did not know how to be a dad, he was their father, but not a dad if you know what i mean.
I really do appreciate the support. The hard part for me is that the kids are leaning on me and of course I am there for them in every way, we are going to see him today, but they want to hear all the little stories and it gets me reminiscing and this is a gut wrenching thing to do. He has cancer and he looks pretty bad, and its hard to see but the kids want me there and so there I shall be, but looking into his tormented eyes is killin me. He had done some really awful things and now they are on his mind and I can see it.
He has one very big apology to make to someone and I must ask him today if he wants me to relay the message for him, I know it is on his mind I see it and I feel it. This person deserves to know of his regrets and he needs to make amends to die in peace but God what an awful thing this is.
I need strength. I may never see him alive again and so today is the day I must try to help, or I will be tormented with it too, because this must happen.

Also, he did not know how to be a Dad, he was their father, but not a Dad if you know what I mean. Three of the four children have been estranged from him for years and I am grateful that they have had a little time to make peace.
When they found out he was dying they felt guilty but I told them that he was their father, the adult and the things that happened when they were children were his responsibility not theirs, I think it helped but they are sad because they want more time. We will have talks about life and death when they are ready but now they have only a few weeks to say good bye.
I am sorry to trouble you all but I need to get this out. I am afraid to start crying for fear I may not be able to stop.

i'm new to this forum and was born and raised as one of jehovah's witnesses.
my family left the religion when i was around 15-years-old.
i am now in my late 20s.
Hi sookie,
Hon, I am so very sorry for your loss. These things are on my mind very much right now too and having been raised a witness myself (left at age 33) I know what you mean, we just don't question the stuff we were taught as kids.
Here is what I think. It is a belief system that I sort of cobbled together myself. 1. People are just too beautiful, horrible and complex to be here for such a short time as the average life span.
2. There is so much we don't know about reality, so much we can't begin to comprehend because there must be more to reality than what we touch and live and see---therefore - more to life and death - at least death as we comprehend it.
3. When we die here, in our reality, we go on to the next part of reality. I do not think that next part is bad, I think it is good and we get to take our lessons and experience with us.
So now your beloved has gone on the the next part of his life and you will be alright. Be strong and wise and loving. Be open to new ideas. Don't be scared or angry. You have more to learn and do.
Love,
Deb

Hi Shadows!!! Welcome. I have been an ex JW since 89. I am not much of an expert about this place. But I do love it!!!!!! I have only been in chat a couple of times
Deb
you know, i look at my daughter and i see with my eyes how beautiful she is to me.
so many times we hear them say such cute things, smart things, funny things, etc......... we brush their hair, we dress them and play.
but so many times, i hear coming out of my mouth, "you're so beautiful" or "you're so pretty.
Did and still do tell my daughters they are smart AND beautiful, and witty and strong - strong is important too. I tell them these things because they need to hear them and because . . .
They Are True!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
