Here's the thing: If, and that's a big IF, something like "the end" is coming, JWs will -- based on their track record to date -- be the last to know.

Local JW's a little slack in their preaching efforts?
by cognizant dissident inso, i'm sitting at my desk one morning, about a week ago.
the desk is right beside my sliding glass door in my new ground floor suite.
the drapes are wide open and i'm sitting in full view of anyone coming up the driveway.

Before I left back in '03, there emerged a new, popular way to get time: Letter writing!
About 10 people would show up one of their homes at 7 in the morning and "write letters." Basically, they'd copy a handwritten letter over and over again, hand-address an envelope, and stamp it and later it'd go in the mail. It was a pleasant gathering, lots of conversation, plus coffee and donuts. And a handful of letters got written.
When I attended this party one morning it soon seemed obvious it would be a lot more efficient to process the letters on a computer, including the envelopes. This would present a more professional image, and the letters would be spell-checked.
When I suggested that, you'd think I'd farted in church. Nobody was remotely interested in doing it that way. There were only a few letter-writing "territories" and the work would all get done in an hour and there'd be nothing left to do but door to door.
Later I researched WTS writings and actually found a Kingdom Ministry article on letter-writing that recommended letters be word-processed rather than hand-written. I printed it out and bought it to the next session. Nothing but blank stares. It was all about eating up time.
FS activity is ruled by the "Pioneer Pace."

THE ANALOGY OF LEAVING THE ORGANIZATION OF JWs
by PublishingCult incan you give an analogy of what it was like (for you personally) leaving the organization of jehovahs witnesses?.
for me, it was very much like the story of mountain climber aron ralston.
the canyon wall of the narrow passage was the watchtower bible & tract society.

sd-7's Evening Meal, The 1st Memorial of Freedom from the WT
by sd-7 inin the night that his expulsion from jehovah's witnesses was to be announced, sd-7 took a pop tart, gave thanks to no one, not even kellogg's, broke it, and passed it to himself, saying, "take, eat.
this means my body, which no longer sits in a kingdom hall.
keep chewing this in remembrance of me.

7 - You are one clever guy!~ Brilliant satire, nicely written. Your Memorial announcement makes as much, no, more sense than the way the WTS wrote it in the first place.
I'm sorry your exit has been so painful. I was lucky that when I took a deep breath and told my wife that I was ready to drop-kick this whole JW thing and start living a more authentic life, she was intrigued and admitted she'd been thinking the same thing but was reluctant to bring it up. It was a little more complicated than that but within weeks we were planning our exit strategy and we made our way out with minimal collateral damage to the few family members we had who were "in the Truth." They're all happily out now and we are enjoying our seventh year of freedom and wildly content with life.
That's my wish for you, however it works itself out. And it will work out. Just keep learning.

Jesus between age 12 and 30. . .
by Mad Sweeney ini'm thinking he traveled east and learned the wisdom of the orient.
no way the watchtower line about him being a carpenter's assistant all that time is possibly true.
he was way too learned about the ways of people to not have been educated and his ideas seem very eastern to me.. anyone got any good books, articles, blogs, websites on the topic?.

Or perhaps he was a myth, a composite character drawn from other early writing, and that those compiling the scriptures back in the day could not agree on the narrative covering his teen and young adult years so they left it out.

Elders & Bankruptcy
by krismalone ini found an interesting post about an elder who has a warrant for his arrest & filed for bankruptcy & owes over 30 creditors money.. what is the society's stand on that matter?.

We knew an elder whose business went belly up. He filed for bankruptcy without telling anyone, closed his business, told the "friends" that his business had gone broke so he had to go back to work, then took a job in another state and never revealed his financial situation to the elders or anyone else. His wife confided in a friend and it became fairly common knowledge through the gossip mill at the KH, but the BOE didn't seem concerned and a favorable letter of introduction was sent to his new congo. Last I heard, he continued to serve as an elder in his new congo.
This was about 10 years ago. The WTS may have issued some new guidelines since then, or perhaps there were guidelines and the BOE ignored them.

A question to the ex-JW's...
by losthobbit ini'm curious about what made you realize that your ex-religion was not "true"?.
i've had discussions with many religious people, and they're always trying to protect their beliefs, rather than allowing anything i say challenge what they believe.
was there ever something someone said to you, or something you read that maybe made you doubt your beliefs for the first time, or had a similar effect?.

Hobbitt:
For most of us who left, it wasn'tljust one thing... it was a series of things over time until we reached the tipping point.
If you're going to research ex-dubs, it will help you to understand "cognitive dissonance." If you're not familiar with the concept, look it up. It explains everything.

Accidentally Leaving a Flash Drive in the KH Parking Lot
by RayPublisher ini've been playing around with this strategy for awhile.
how could i crack the defenses and get a jw to read crisis of conscience, captive to a concept, etc., or just some reasoning points in general on blood, 1914, the history of the wt organization?
i want to help my brothers and sisters, i am still inside for a while longer and feel like i need to do something more tangible.. so i was thinking that if a flash drive was "accidentally" left on the ground in the parking lot.

The UN NGO is BS. No one cares
You may feel that way. But it's one of the things that woke me up. And many others had the same reaction and said so on the forum.

Are you a spiritual? - What is the definition?
by TastingFreedom inas a jw, the definition of spirituality is very limited and narrow minded.
but i have realized that i'm a spiritual person even as an agnostic.
watchtower's use of the word is completely wrong, and only used to benefit their own agenda.

It's easy enough to tell the difference between spirituality and religion: Spirituality unites. Religion divides.
