Get a Toyota Prius. It's "green," which it hot right now, and Leonardo DiCaprio drives one; that might impress her.
If not, at least you'll save on gas.

well, ok, maybe half of it is fluff, but still..... just noticed that we rolled past the 10,000-page mark on jwn.
what a remarkable achievement this forum is, started by simon and ang and supported by the various mods and the thousands of people who have posted their experiences and shared their wisdom since it all began nearly 10 years ago.
i can trace my successful exit directly to this site and the sage advice i received and applied.. the wts claims to be doing a "life-saving work.

The WTS claims to be doing a "life-saving work." But aiding and abetting people who feel trapped in the cult is the really important work of our time. Congratulations to all on a job well done.
i was half a sleep when i heard this on the news, don,t know all the details,.
but if this true , this will certainly slow down door the door work.. can anyone confirm this.
i heard it on nbc ch.
I wonder why they would edit OUT the JW reference?
Because the editor, despite those reported "millions" of hours of preaching over the past 130 years, still doesn't know who JWs are. Or doesn't think his readers do. This is yet another example of how small a dent dubs have made in the grand scheme of things.
our box of watchtower and awake bound volumes have sat out in the garage the past five yrs .
this week is city wide clean up so we finally toted them to the curb .
those suckers are heavy !
All the while my poor never-JW hubby kept reasuring me over and over that I never would have let my kids die. But he is wrong, I would have.
I know, right? This speaks volumes about how "lost" we were before we saw the truth about the Truth, and why this cult is so dangerous to parents' mental health -- to say nothing of the lives of their children.
i have an old friend from jw's that has been trying to track me down.
she finally found me today.
of course to invite me to memorial.
There are more dubs living double lives than most people think.
So true. A "sister" ran into my wife (we last attended a KH 7 or 8 years ago). This woman was pioneering with a couple of small children and had little support from her MS husband, who was the macho type who preferred his women to be submissive. She and my wife used to be "close" and a cordial conversation ensued, during the course of which Mrs. Loman used the past tense in describing our witness affiliation. The "sister" said something that indicated she was curious but wasn't going to ask. "I don't want to be discouraged," she said.
This from someone who, when they were both "sisters," often used to tell my wife how discouraged she was by the pressure to perform to congregational standards.
Cognitive dissonance prevents many dubs from asking the questions they are dying to ask. They are so afraid of what's on the outside they will endure discomfort on the inside, no matter how extreme, rather than take a risk.
We are convinced that half the people in a given KH would bail if they could. When we run into former dub associates, some may greet us with fear and suspicion -- but there's also a healthy dose of what feels like envy.

former witness taking on watch tower graeme hammond from: sunday herald sun april 10, 201112:00ama former jehovah's witness is to launch a private criminal prosecution against the religion's world headquarters.
his action is in protest at its refusal to require church elders to submit to working with children police checks in victoria.
This guy makes a valid point (complaint). The JW stance on allowing pedophiles access to children is the organization's Achilles Heel.
I went out in FS for nearly 30 years. I can't tell you how many times small children came to the door by themselves. We allways asked to speak to their parents. About half the time, their parents were not available for some reason (sleeping/not home). It used to amaze me that little kids would open their door to strangers and say their parents were not around to supervise them. One can only imagine what a dream come true this would be for a pedophile!
i saw them in the distance going door to door , (about 6 of them plus child in pushchair ) i knew i had to walk past them but started panicking !
i was thinking please dont speak to me or i will explain why im not interested in your religion , i left my town to get away from them !
due to my daughters sexual abuse by a ex min servant who had abused others in the congregation also but had never been reported !
Without minimizing your panic attacks, which are certainly understandable, I'd suggest one thing.
Take a page out of the JW book and prepare in advance. Develop a simple "presentation," in the same way the dubs teach newbies to go door-to-door. That way, when you are unexpectedly confronted with JWs you already know exactly what you're going to say.
Plan ahead and memorize a short statement that expresses your feelings and leaves no doubt where you stand. Perhaps something like:
"It's taken a long time for our family to recover from the damage you did to us. I want no part of your hypocritical and corrupt teachings. You should be ashamed of yourselves for teaching lies. Go away and don't ever speak to me again."
Look them in the eye when you say it, and remain calm but firm. It will be very effective, and you'll feel great afterwards.
thought this will be of interest at this time of year..... .
dear daniel,.
i appreciated your latest letter.
Thanks for posting this passage. It reminded me once again that the WTS met its Waterloo in the late 1970's and self-destructed in about 1980-81, when it ran people like Ray Franz out of the organization. At that time, the Society by these actions delivered a strong message that there wasn't going to be any reform.
I remember as a faithful dub in the late 1970's feeling a flow of fresh air coming from New York and believing that the Society was going through some beneficial changes that would resolve a lot of the doubts/issues/questions many of us had. In the wake of the 1975 debacle, which embarrassed so many of us, there was a collective feeling that out of this could come change and reform, a kinder, gentler Watchtower.
It was during this period that at a social gathering, the visiting CO and several elders were sitting around talking. The CO told us that Bethel was conducting an audit of all our teachings and that there were going to be significant changes ahead. These were going to be enlightening and would lead to the abandonment of some of our more incredulous teachings, and it was his opinion that this was all good. Ironically, no one debated the need for reform. We all felt the change in the air and welcomed it. Within a couple of years of that conversation, they had kicked out all the reformers and reclaimed the castle. A hard line mentality descended on dubdom. Some of the more visbile manifestations: The Commentary on the Letter of James was tossed out, along with the Aid book.
Ray's humble tone in the above passage was exactly the demeanor the Society needed to adopt after 1975. By then the dubs had attracted millions of new adherents, many of whom were good people longing for justice and righteousness and appalled at a system of things that appeared to be coming apart at the seams.
Imagine what might have been if they had channeled that energy and zeal for social justice 30 years ago. Instead, they went back to the wreckage of the past, sifting for treasure in the trash heap. They're still looking.
if you were a believing jw, especially born-in, you never really had the chance to determine if you had the heavenly or earthly hope.
you were raised - or taught in bible/book study - that your hope was, unequivocally, to live forever on paradise earth.
period.
The longer I am away from the steady drumbeat at the KH, the more I realize that the "144,000 annointed" concept taught by JWs is a myth, like many of their other unique teachings. This is now being proven by the WTS' slow, steady drift away from the long-cherished 1935 deadline for inclusion as well as by the numerical increase of partakers at the Memorial in recent years.
It's becoming clear that the religion's founders sat down and discussed ways to be different from mainstream Christianity and came up with a list of dogma and began teaching it. This was just one of those. "We'll do heaven, but we'll change it!"
get this: she called me up to tell me a well dressed man came to her house and actually invited her for dinner, a "meal" at the local kingdom hall on the memorial evening.. he gave her the invitation to enjoy the meal with him and quite a few other people on the night the "meal" was being served.. i explained to her that the dinner only consisted of wine and unleavened bread and that she could only watch the bread and wine being passed but if she got a hold of the plate or the cup she had to just give it the next person.. she asked, "you mean there's no dinner like he said?
" i answered there was not.
and she said, "then forget it then!"..
He found a way to make the Memorial even creepier.
As if...
