Another one admitted that they would have counted my tattoo, earring, cross-wearing freaky friend if he partook, as well as me, an opponent of all things WT. This seems dumb, if true, so the number is meaningless.

Unless something has changed since I left, they do not count everyone who partakes. The Society's instructions leave it up to the individual body of elders but make it clear they can "edit" based on their knowledge of circumstances. In congos I was in, memorial-night attendants were instructed not to challenge anyone who partook, but not to count anyone who did and was clearly delusional. A couple of times when I was asked to count partakers, I left out the whackjob sister who, in my humble opinion, wasn't fooling anybody. I stopped going to the memorial when I realized that none of the partakers were annointed with anything, except whatever ingredients are in batshitcrazy.

The explanation is really quite simple.

The WTS has killed the link between "generation" and 1914 which has led to a loss of urgency on the part of the rank and file. Despite what they say with their lips, in their hearts they know the end is not going to come in their lifetime and no army of white horses is going to ride in and save the day, so they are bound to die in this "present system of things." And that's a scary proposition, since so few planned for retirement and old age.

So, what the hell, if we're going to die we may as well go out annointed.

JWN Is Not The Same Place It Was Years Ago . . .

td made the following statement over in another thread, and so i thought it would make a good topic of its own.. jwn is not the same place it was years ago and years from now, it won't be the same place as it is today.. how has jwn changed over the years, old timers?

Yes, that's my observation as well. I started lurking in '02, came aboard in '03, by which time I had gone back and read every single post and every reply. I stopped trying to do that a long time ago!

Not to start an argument, but several posters said this started out as a pro-JW site. I would dispute that, based on my early reading. I think it started out as a forum for people who were somewhat disillusioned and who had questions they couldn't ask anywhere else. As soon as it became clear there were a lot of people with the same nagging questions and doubts, the doors opened and permission was granted to bail out.

You'd have to ask Simon if that was his intent or whether he really was "all in" at the time he opened for business. Whatever the answer is, he's a saint as far as I'm concerned. His forum idea was inspired by a higher power.

They caught me house-sitting in Houston this morning

i went outside and to the car this morning for some items and saw some walkers (very slow walkers) approaching, in pairs, a few homes away.

i knew i had a little time to think.

when the doorbell rang i was ready.. we've got a few more days here in houston, just north of braes bayou and near stella link rd.

Right. Re spread the word to hundreds of people, or thousands. He doesn't see the connection. Or doesn't want to see it.

despite the fact that i officially left the jws last october i still had a big issue to deal with.

i was still living at home.

many of you are aware of the kind of pressure that parents can put on you.

How HIGH did you climb the ranks as a JW? Did you like the STATUS?

curious as to what level you climbed the r&f ladder while in the org, or if you still are in.. did you regular pioneer, or auxiliary pioneer?

Since you're conducting a survey, I did ride the elevator. My dub credentials:

Former elder (20+ years) with long stints as WT and School overseer, Aux Pio'd a few times, brief period as PO back when they rotated the positions, once had to be a congo secretary for several months (hated it), and for many years was a frequent volunteer at conventions. They said I was a "good speaker," had several assignments at CA and DC. Also "served" on a few special committees selected by CO to deal with complex JCs or appeals (we overturned a DF on appeal, a proud moment). Used to be that when you looked up "prominent elder" in the JW encyclopedia, you saw my picture (they've since removed it).

It was being a dub at this level and seeing all that went on behind the scenes that taught me the "Truth" wasn't the truth.

I would like to issue a blanket apology to the people I hurt by being an asshole -- and I surely was although I'd like to think I wasn't.

HELP! How do I FADE without being DF'D??

i'm in a tough position.

i gave my last talk as an ms a couple of weeks ago, and i haven't been out in field service in well over a month.

i "came out" to the closest people in my life...namely my gf and mother...i was also recently asked to step down from being a servant - largely because my heart was no longer in it and i couldn't stomach going from door to door peddling magazines and other literature full of lies and logical fallacies.
