Legal setbacks....

we should not be too disheartened by the recent legal set backs pertaining to some of the court cases that have favored the watchtower's position.

the fact is that each case generates a lot of bad publicity for the watchtower society.

even though the majority of jehovah's witnesses remain ignorant of the charges of sexual abuse in the organization, the public has become aware because of the media coverage.

onias (possibly son of onias iii) established a second jewish temple in egypt.

it lasted for 243 years.

does anyone have further details about the dissident true faith jehovah's witnesses in romania?

i understand they left the watchtower society because someone in the organization betrayed them to the communist officials of that country.

is any more information on this group?

does anyone have any information on what occurred after the society dropped its suit in the bonham kingdom hall dispute?

the last i heard was the society built another kingdom hall.

what ever happened to those in the congregation that sued the society?

i'm reading a fascinating book, god's best seller, by brian moynahan.

in it he documents how a few men like wycliff and tyndale risked their lives to make the bible available to the common people.

the catholic church violently opposed these efforts and persecuted all who were involved in the translating, publishing and distributing the scriptures.

over the years the society vascillated on its position of the practise of water dowsing?

does anyone know it's present position?

Divorce....a concession of Moses?

in jesus' discussion on divorce, he said that moses allowed more latitude about divorce to the sons of israel as a concession.

(matthew 19) jesus noted this this arrangement was not so from the beginning.

are we to understand that parts of the mosaic law aside from the 10 commandments were from moses rather than god?

Catholic church more honest and candid than Watchtower Society?

on the news it was reported that the newly appointed archbishop of boston (o'malley} spoke of the sins of the "clergy, religious and hierarchy" in mishandling the sexual abuse of children within the church.

and he promised to correct and to heal the church.

it remains to be seen if he can do this.

Trinity...an attempt of Gentiles to distance themselves from the Jews?

i have often wondered whether the acceptance of the trinity doctrine in the church was an attempt of the gentile beleivers to distance themselves from the early jewish believers in the early church.

as the gentiles became the majority there does seem to be a concerted effort on the part of these members to eradicate any trace of the jewish origins of the church.

in fact, some of the early "church fathers" were very strong in their anti-jewish sentiments.
