ball took the words right out of my mouth! I truly see a pattern here on this thread, and to tell you the truth, it makes me feel so much better! I thought I was just selfish for wanting to be alone most of the time. In fact, I just sent my husband alone on a business trip I was invited to attend with some of his employees and their wives. He knows how I feel and doesn't push me, which is exactly what I need.... of course, lately that "alone" time has been spent here on JWD!!!!

Hermitism (LOL!) runs in my family - my mom likes a lot of time to herself and my grandmother was obscene about it. For example, my mom would ask her to go to lunch on a Monday morning, and my grandmother would tell her, "no, I can't go, I need to get ready for my Doctor appointment on Friday". No joke - she really said this. The ironic thing is that although I think it's funny, I also understand how she feels. For my mom, I think her need to be alone - but not being able to as often as she needs due to going to meetings and out in the service all the time - are a big part of the depression she has suffered from for years. She "gets sick" more than anyone I have ever known in my entire life. But then again, I understand how it feels when you are suddenly overwhelmed - you may not be running a fever, but when that feeling overcomes you, you can feel pretty "sick"! (For me, it is a feeling of being "stressed out" and unable to concentrate for long).
The dichotomy of this is that I really do love people! I really enjoy laughing and bouncing ideas off others. But I can only take so much of it, then I'm done. However, I have discovered a really great way around it - it's called posting on JWD! What I like about it (among 100 other things!) is when I've had my fill, I can turn the computer off and walk away and be alone without offending anyone! So I understand how you feel, Strawberry, and hope that being here can help you, too!

LOL! I had to look up "dowsing" to understand that it means to use a divining rod to find water - but this is great! I tend to think that if I were "down there" with those guys, I probably wouldn't be that optimistic - but up here - most the time I am!!!!!

my jw mom sent me the same press release that was circulating on the board last week regarding a radical group who was trying to get religion and national borders abolished through the un.

anyway, there was no commentary from her in the e-mail, which says to me that this is a "silent warning" to become a dub before i die in armageddon.

i would like to thank all who have replied to my quesstion about hitting back at woman.
i would like to ask a further question about this situation.
some have surgested that my friends girlfriend acted in self defense when she slapped him because he was pinning her in a corner and yelling.
I responded in the other thread that there is a "fight or flight" instinct that kicks in when someone perceives they are in a dangerous situation. I have been where this woman was - on several occasions - and I can personally attest to the fact that even if the aggressor does not intend to actually kill or permanently maim the person whom he has cornered, it can feel that way to the victim. For me, in one particular instance, I was blocked into a tiny bathroom - the fact that I am claustrophobic did not help the situation. Needless to say, I reacted in a way that I am not proud of - but it got me out of the bathroom and relieved the intense fear I felt. I learned a lot from that episode - which was to walk away and refuse to deal with the man - because as Nos pointed out, it's not difficult to sense when it's going to get ugly. The only reason I didn't walk away from the bathroom incident is because I couldn't. However, I've also learned from subsequent incidents that walking away can only further enrage the aggressor. The more I write on this topic, the more I realize that oftentimes - not always - the woman is going to "get it" no matter what, and when her "fight or flight" instinct kicks in - the man will be lucky if he walks away able to bear children again - and IMHO - he will deserve it. On the other hand - if she misses - she's in a lot of trouble. My final conclusion - men should not hit women - period. However, if the woman is the aggressor, and she is not capable of kicking him into the next state, (therefore, the "fight or flight" instinct probably would not kick in for him) - he should restrain her until she calms down, or until help arrives.

I have enjoyed talking with you in chat, and I am not looking for a fight here. I have a feeling we are going to have to start out by agreeing to disagree, because our world views are opposite. I've spent half my day in this thread, and I am ready to put it to bed. So, I'll make it brief and answer your question regarding naming a liberally biased show. I will have to tell you that I don't know the specific names of the shows the people I can list are on, but I can tell you the specific names of the individuals. Here is my short list:
Perhaps one of the most liberally biased meda individual that immediately comes to mind is Katie Couric. Matt Lauer is right up there, too, along with Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, and Ted Koppel. In fact, Ashleigh Banfield has been reprimanded for her liberal bias by her own employer, MSNBC.
Honestly, Badger, I'm tired of this conversation - not with you - but the conversation. I always do this to myself. I love politics, but I know what they do to people. Yet I have trouble staying out of the political threads. So I go in anyway, then I end up beating my head against the wall, and promptly vow to never go in them again. I hold out as long as I possibly can, then I see one and tell myself, "I'll just make one post and not go back". But then, I just HAVE to see if someone has responded, and if they have, then I just can't help but responding again. And before I know it, I've spent the whole day in a thread defending my position on a board where there are 30 liberals for every conservative. And the cycle has begun again - but I deny it. And I foolishly think I am going to change someone's mind! I'm not going to - anymore than you or Matty or Simon or Bradley are going to change mine! Eventually, after hitting my head against the wall to the point that blood is pooling on the floor, I realize that I have allowed myself to be sucked back into the hopeless rhetoric. Once I realize this, I become suddenly weary of the exercise in futility. I just don't want to play anymore. I am back at the point of vowing to stay out of political threads again. Sorry not to put up the good fight with ya. I'm just tired of the bloodbaths. Just know that I really do respect your opinion, whether I agree with it or not. I hope you can respect mine, too.

You have a good point. I also believe that people tend to choose the news source that best fits their world view. However, IMHO, this is exactly why there needs to be something like FOX News, in addition to other network news sources. Not everyone has the same world view. However, I do not think anyone who has made a choice in who they prefer to get their news from can say that they do not have any political leanings to the left or the right. If they disagree with the way FOX presents the news - which is slanted towards the right - and therefore, will not watch it, then they can not claim neutrality. Someone who is truly neutral receives their news from all sources and makes their mind up from there. So although I think you really believe you are neutral, I don't believe you are being honest with yourself. As I've mentioned earlier in this thread, I do occasionally watch other networks besides FOX. However, I am still willing to admit that I am not politically neutral. It is okay to admit it. If you don't watch FOX or any other right-leaning news sources, then it is okay for you to admit that you are not politcally neutral, also. It's also okay to disagree with others with differing ideas and/or to agree to disagree with the same, as long as it doesn't become personal. All I am asking is to keep it out of the personal arena. Insinuations and outright name-calling doesn't get anyone anywhere.
