You make a good point! With everything I find, I realize just how business-minded the WTBTS really is. My gut tells me there is way more to this story, that we've only scratched the surface, and that this is just once instance of what will be found.

You mention that you will be posting information on your site in relation to some of the good things JW's have done for civil rights. I would be interested to hear what they are, and also, if any of them are related to their NGO status at the UN. I'm also curious if they have anything to do with the other NGO alliances that have recently been uncovered. If they are, what are your thoughts on those connections?

I am impressed! You have set some great goals for yourself - especially in So Cal. The immigration law work alone could keep you busy forever! I am especially curious about the website you are putting up. It sounds as if it is going to be a "balanced" site with both the pros and cons of dubyadom?

You are right! From an objective perspective, this is actually pretty amazing. Someone has their thinking cap on.

I don't know if you are comfortable answering this or not publically or via pm, but may I ask what type of law you practice? If you don't want to say, I understand! :-)

By the way, since you are in LA, would you happen to know what the zoning code for LAM2 would be, and the Standard Use Code ILIG? No need to go to the hassle of looking it up, I can do that, just wondered if you knew off the top of your head. It relates to this whole story.

New connection found!!

I can show that the new owners of the property, the Lehrer's, most likely knew the owners prior to the two-month ownership of the WTBTS. Could it be that the Lehrer's were the intended beneficiaries of the land in the first place, but for some reason, it had to go through the WT? If so, does anyone have any ideas on why?

I didn't mean to imply that it's completely on the up-an-up, since as I said above, it still qualifies as compensation to a man who's officially supposed to be a volunteer.

I am SO glad you found this thread! Your information has been invaluable! I know it's late out here in CA, but I am so fired up about all of this, because this is just the beginning of what I have found on the WTBTS and my adrenaline is going! Thanks for staying up late and posting to me when you could be sleeping instead!

Anyway, can you tell me how someone could verify whether there is a signed waiver between McCabe and the WTBTS and/or the Lehrer's? Would that be public information, or a private document? For what it is worth, I have found something else related to this deal, but want to check it out further before I post it. Would love it if you get the chance to look at it and tell me what you think!

Also, are you aware of a list of congregations and/or baptized members that is publically available? I am wondering if the either the Tamayo's or the Lehrer's are witnesses, because if they are not, then why would one be willing to give some land to the WT, and why would the other allow the WT to hold their mortgage with their lawyer on the deed if they weren't?

My eyelids are drooping - gotta go, but thanks for your insight so far, and for any future help you may be able to give!

My turn to be impressed! Great to see someone with some legal knowledge on here! Your input is greatly appreciated! Your assessment of the situation certainly sounds plausible, although I might have to disagree with you on the market value. Land is land is land is land. My little 9000 square foot lot has doubled since 1999, and I'm not too far from where this land is located. I am sure this land has done at least as well with two extra years on me. Even if it has only increased 50% in value, that still makes it worth more than the market value at the time of the transfer.

May I ask you what you meant by this - I'm not quite sure I understand.

I hope that McCabe has followed through in all of his ethical duties and obtained all the necessary waivers, etc. since the deal is on paper at least obviously self-dealing.

Again, thanks! I'm compiling another list of questions. Would love your input on them.

Now it's wrong to sweep up!!!

at a meeting last thursday night, so i'm reliably informed, a brother was sweeping up outside the kh as he always does every meeting.

on this occasion however, he was taken to one side by an elder, told it was not his place to sweep the front of the hall, and to go back to a neighbouring congregation as he is "not wanted here!".

maybe only the super-righteous can sweep in public and the rest of us slosh out the latrines!!!!!!!!!
