If They Stopped Shunning Tomorrow?
by cofty inimagine that the cult decided to stop shunning family members on the proviso that the dfd person was not actively trying to attack the cult.. (please don't debate whether or not this is likely - it's hypothetical).
how would you respond to your family?.
personally i think i would be less than cooperative.

Agreed. That was my conclusion to a "T".
Just to add, and if I get flamed by other, so be it. My family has always been involved in this stuff, and our region is steeped in Illuminati 'lore' (ie, myth), so I could be a bit biased.
But it creeped me out big-time. Bells & whistles. I'm leaning more to the Dead Serious, having learned to trust my gut.

Book Burning and other burning of materials done by JW. Any experiences Please post
by adjusted knowledge inas a very young child i have memories of several book burnings done by jw families.
it wasn't something arranged by the congregation, but elders did participate in it.
it was actually scary for me as a child of only about 8 years old.

My grandmother had a good sized library of books in the attic. Let's just say that she was involved with some interesting groups, as was her whole family (as well as being IBS and subsequently JWS).
When I was about 14, my grandfather took all the books, piled them up in the field, and burned them. Because they were 'demonized' - books about occultism, satanism, illuminati, all kinds of intresting stuff!.Of course, this was way in the country so I did not witness it. He claimed that the books wouldn't burn, even after using gasoline as a lighter fluid. So he kept soaking them, and eventually the pile burned. *rolling my eyes here*
Now, I'm sure the 'gasoline' thing was a lie, because Grandfather was neither superstitious nor was he ignorant. He had a degree from Kings College, which was rare back in the 30s. .I think my grandmother was afraid (death was drawing near) because of all the stuff she was involved with in her younger years, and wanted to prove she was now a 'good Xtian'. It's weird, for sure - but my family is very very strange.
For sure, though, the books were burned. And yeah, I was upset........ BOOKS! How can you burn BOOKS! : (

I was reading the comments on their youtube video commercial - hundreds and hundreds of them - even people saying they have joined and learned so much.
Reminds me of Scientology.

An experience at Bethel
by joe134cd ini was just thinking of something i observed on a visit to bethel some years back, that at the time struck me as odd, but now that i look back on it, it might be revealing about their financial situation.
please feel free to agree/disagree with me and also bear in mind this is some years back so my memory may be sketchey.

Does Tithing at Church Count as a Charitable Donation?
by OrphanCrow init has been interesting to see the shift in financial strategies that the wts is implementing recently.
from reading recent threads, it appears like 'they' are adopting a tithing donation system, similar to what is practised in "those wicked churches of christendoom".
i am curious as to who it is that stands to benefit the most tax wise in this recent shift.

Canada - I haven't talked to them for a few years, but my parents would give the Corporation 12 post-dated cheques every year, and yes, it is tax-deductible and the "Society" would issue them the appropriate paperwork.

Re: The snowman
This stuck in my mind. I could see myself as a child, so longing to play with other kids, and realizing that there was no way. The only thing a child of that age. in *my* kind of born-in family, has to 'live' for is the approval of their parents. So, like the child in the vid, I pretended to be someone I was not, because I wanted my parents to love me.
; ' (.
This particular piece of propaganda really sickened me. The indoctrination of their children is one of the most despicable things that any cult does, from my pov.So, yes, the snowman scene is disturbing, to say the least.

So, on a more positive note - I saw the JWS at their cart today, and said hi, took some pics. I asked "No Bibles?" No, we just sold the last one. [sold?] "The new Version?" Oh yes! "Oh, cool. Thanks, see ya."
Maybe, I could pose a question about this video that I saw online. I write the occasional article for local free rags, so no problem posing as a journalist. And I have no intention of posting any pics or ridiculing them in any way.
Looking for *thinking questions* re this video that would be something for the average JWS to chew on. Kind of a 'hmmm', provocative yet not unfriendly. :)
It's great to analyze these things and pick them apart. As you can see, *this* anarchist has gotten a good strategy from the thread. Thanks to the OP!I like to do my own thing to fight the Tower. Writing to newspapers to let them know a JW child molester has been arrested, or to comment on an article; putting signs on the lawn of a KH or two; anti-Witnessing when appropriate (eg, when asked by health care workers why I have no NOK), picking up pamphlets in doctor's and hospital waiting rooms, and ensuring they are destroyed.

Why I remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Brother Jeramy inallow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.
i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.
some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).

In Canada, failure to report child sexual abuse is a federal offence. So, many Canadian Jehovah's Witnesses are criminals. They have just not been charged and found guilty in a court of law. That's what criminals do - avoid prosecution.
