Is RIDICULE acceptable in online debating?
by nicolaou inthis topic was inspired by one of fhn's comments on the 'warzone' thread, so i'll just restate my post there .
.. "i've been wondering for a while now if ridicule really is an unacceptable feature in debate - it certainly isn't a valid form of argumentation.
the thing is, some individuals really do come out with the most laughable nonsense and parade it as a serious proposition that merits attention.

If you get your jollies off by making fun of people, especially those who seem to be suffering from mental illness or extreme naivete, then have at it. It's the internet - it's not as if anyone can look you in the eye and call you out.
The weak and the ill don't have a voice - let's not give them one. After all they are either stupid or mentally lazy, right? *heavy sarcasm*

From my latest tour at Bethel, I was told the move was to differentiate the World Headquarters from the US branch. It's really nothing more than a corporate reorg. In the past the US branch was the World HQ. Now they are setting them up as separate and distinct. The US branch can focus on the US and the World HQ will focus on coordinating all of the branches.
"Separate and distinct" - hmm, the Conti lawsuit may be an indication that the US branch of the WTS may be looking at many more lawsuits. Perhaps this 'complete reorg.' is a way to prevent the world-wide b'Org from paying out millions in future American lawsuits (they know their goose is cooked).
It's one thing to settle out of court for 5 figures (they have done a LOT of that), but quite another to pay up for what could potentially be, a Class Action Suit.

When I left home to 'serve where the need was greater'. I was no longer behind my parents' protective barrier, and got to see what the 'brothers' and 'sisters' were really like. They were mostly a bunch of hypocrites - my pioneer roomies having sex with their boyfriends, elders and pioneers getting wasted on liquor. Final straw was when my friend hung himself - he was gay - because he could not live the life of a JW.
I thought "this is not the TRUTH, these people are a bunch of liars. There is no God." So, I quit it. -

Call the local women's shelter and ask if they have an 'outreach program'. If they do, you can sit and talk to a professional about this - one who knows the reasons why women stay with abusive men, and can help you figure out your issues.
Much love to you!

Why don’t we have a better story?
by iconoclastic in1. some say we are all gods, and god is omnipresent..
2. some say: god created his children who later challenged his sovereignty, who in turn asked his eldest son: go down to the world, do not resist the wicked, but be murdered by them, the value of which will be used to atone the sins of the world..
3. universe arose out of a big bang.

So I ask you .... why is it important? We are born, we live, and like all other living things on this planet - we die.
4. Some say - it matters not - live in the moment.xo

NN, the experience you refer to, is actually what is commonly called "lesbian bed death" (google is your friend). It's not unusual and is NOT "lesbians toying with straight women". It happens in a lot of relationships, which burn bright and fast (google "U-Haul lesbian" for the urban dictionary definition), and die a quick death in the bedroom, then on to the next ....... in hetero-world, we call this 'serial monogamy'.

Schoolyard bully mentality
by FusionTheism ini'm not naming names, but i just want to encourage people on here or on reddit or twitter, and tell you that you do not have to tolerate people who act like schoolyard bullies in the way they speak to you online.
i think anonymity is a big part of it.
they feel like there is zero accountability so they can be a bully all they want.. i recommend just ignoring or blocking anyone who is verbally abusive or treats you like schoolyard bullies treated you.. life is way too short to spend any time dealing with those kinds of people..

Theists react to reasonable investigation of their faith as though it some how makes them victims of some attack. It does not.
Yeah, the above "Hurt Feelings Report" is NOT a personal attack on the OP. *rolls eyes*
The language and TONE of atheists is rarely 'reasonable' and what would be considered acceptable in an academic debate. It's more like a dirty politics debate. Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.
