when we were kids, our mothers would treat our cuts and grazes with an antiseptic cream called germoline.
it's still widely used today.. to mask the antiseptic smell, thereby making the product more acceptable to kids, the manufacturers would mix in sassafras to the finished product.
sassafras has a very distinctive smell.. root beer also contains sassafras, which duly imparts it's distinctive aroma to the drinker.. so, to your average brit anyway, drinking root beer is akin to swallowing antiseptic cream, because it smells just the same!.

Hey, thanks for the 4-1-1. And you're right, it is more dark yellow than orange when applied. My thought was about the stinging - iodine hurts like heck!
ps. I was always jealous of the chemists who worked in the lab (I was admin asst), looked like playing all day - too much fun and getting paid as well.

my boyfriend (feels more like fiance though i guess as we've talked about but just need the ring) and i have been together over two yrs and living together for over a yr. he never was a jw, and professes to be no religon and isn't even sure god exsists.

I don't know where you're from, but maybe it's more a demographic/geographic problem and not related to the WTS' dumb edicts.
My experience growing up JW was more like Maverick's - all cultural endeavours were heavily discouraged/frowned upon. Only Bible study, field service and 'Christian fellowship' were considered acceptable by the powers-that-be.
Artistic abilities were quashed, and OMG - go to a concert - you heathen! I secretly went to my first concert at 17 - Supertramp. Since I was a pioneer, I would have been 'counselled' for going to an evil rock concert where there might be 'drugs'. Similar attitudes toward theatre (might learn something), and god forbid if you wanted to PURSUE any kind of career in the arts.
In fact, one of the local brothers (toured with Gordon Lightfoot, a Cdn. top-40 singer of the 70's, and left when he converted cause the music industry was 'so corrupt') was always set up as an example of leaving worldly pursuits behind (READ: a successful music career) so he could pursue Kingdom interests full time.
I guess it all depended on who was controlling your circuit/district, perhaps?

We sure could take over a whole campground here, complete with sandy beaches and all. OTOH, maybe a lakeside campground - the ocean's kinda 'frigid' up here, compared to beeyootiful southern USA. (oh, the warm waters of the south, you don't know how lucky you are)

sometimes, when i read what a poster says, especially a new poster, i don't always assume that they are legitimate.
do you ever feel this way?
does it cross your mind that a person is falsely representing himself/herself ??
This has been my first experience on the internet - the people on this site seem to be sincere and genuine.
At first, I was Terrified to Communicate, and still feel v. awkward with PMs and personal contact. It's more challenging without being able to see the faces and eyes, the body language.
But on the whole it's like 'real' life - take everything with a grain of salt and give people the benefit of the doubt. IMHO, it takes time to establish trust.
