Do NOT go to college, system is coming to an end, EVEN in 1969!!!!!

if you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that.

you will never grow old in this present system of things... .all evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years... as a young person you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.

if you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career.

I was too young to prevent this, but my parents (who believed that shyte, it was 1972) had me hauled out of HS at age 14, when I had a super scholarship deal for my senior year, as an exchange student in Paris. The Guidance Counsellor had been working with me, but when Mother found out ... well, Jehovah wasn't gonna let that happen! NO, don't let that child be a doctor! So, I don't even remember ages 14-16, but dd leave home at 16 to board with another JW family.

I left the religion when I was 18, and never darkened the door of a KH since. It wasn't easy to go it alone in the 70s, with poor health and a grade X education. But I went back to school, and university, and am proud of my personal achievements.

Fast forward 20 years ... my mother "Oh, and AP (a girl I grew up with, whose father was 'worldly' and mother 'spiritually weak') is a DOCTOR! Isn't that amazing? Her mother is so PROUD!"

"But mom, I wanted to be a doctor and you wouldn't let me."

"That's not true. You *wanted* to leave school."

Hypocritical woman that she is. She is the perfect 'elderette'.

Ah, yes, the 1975 Generation. Some of us didn't believe, or buy into that, but still paid the price.

Compliment or criticism - what affects you most?

a bit of introspection on this one ... just read on someone's post that a compliment makes him "float" for hours, and it got me thinking; within the spectrum of comments that people make about me, from compliment to criticism, which is the type that most affects me?.

after my experience as a jehovah's witness, i find that i've become suspicious of compliments and over-sensitive to criticism.

because a common technique of elders was to compliment someone before going down to business, that is, giving hard counseling or discipline.

For many years, I was affected by both.

Compliments - what, ME? NO. I will never be good enough!

Criticism - you're right. I'm not good enough.

After years of working through different issues, I've finally come to the place where others' opinions make little difference. I know who I am, and am happy to be me. That is a healthier place to be.

for the past three years, my husband and i have been watching these sermons by remarkable worldwide speakers.

the biblical truths we have learnt from their presentations, in such a short period of time most definitely tip the scales compared to the truth the jw.org led me to believe i had for over 20 plus years of my life.

thanks to these videos, we have now found the truth and the truth is jesus christ (john 14:6).

Umm , I guess that only *certain people* are allowed to ask to keep a thread ON TOPIC. How "big" of you, JWINQUESTION, to ask Cofty to give this new member a bit of time to get comfortable here.

This poster has been a member for 4 days. Cofty and others, do you have such a NEED to convert people to your way of thinking, that you can't allow them to catch their breath and be happy they know TTATT, and have found support, before you attack their ENTIRE belief system?

Why is it okay for you to demand that people stay on-topic on your threads, yet you are exempt from giving others the same respect? Maybe there should be a warning to those of 'faith', that they *will* be persecuted on this site.

Don't you 'get it'? In other contexts, you may be considered a bully.

Conversation with my mother-in-law this morning

i am skipping the details on how we got to this point.

conversation was calmed and pleasant and while i know she is not the most educated person (she can hardly read), its hard to justify it by saying is a matter of ignorance.

it is definitely something inside her that triggers on that very moment.. me: i don't know where all the money is going.

This conversation in the OP reminds me of an old joke.

A roofer is teaching his apprentice how to hammer down the shingles. He places the nail in the appropriate place, and says to the apprentice, "When I nods me head, hit it!" He nods his head, and splat! the apprentice whacks him a good one.

God & JW can't exist without "evil"

i was thinking the other day that so far jw's and god have always needed or relied on "evil" to get items done or taken care of.

almost every bible prophecy and jw teaching would not exist without "evil".. let's take the prophecy of jesus for example, it would not have been fulfilled without evil.

when you think about it, he was a needed evil in order for prophecy to be fulfilled.

I already acknowledged in my comment that with maturity, I learned to respect my friend's choice, so there is no need for you to justify your choices to me.

You are 16? Or am I in error? That has little relevance to what I want to say, though.

You state that "Everything in life is equal". Well, I hope life teaches you lessons in a gentle fashion, because you have a LOT to learn, whether you are 16 or 60.

Hi, thedepressedsoul.

My best friend growing up is a double-lifer. I have never understood how a life of deceit can be fulfilling. Always looking over your shoulder, having to have a good memory, hahaha! because you would always be in danger of being caught in a lie.

Truth be told, I resented that person for a long time, because they had their family and I did not have mine. It's funny, because that person was a speed freak in the 80s had a child out of wedlock, and well, a lot of shit that I think is okay - but I got DF'd and lost all my family for what? Playing 'doctor' with my best friend ....

Eventually, I grew up and realized that my double-lifer friend had their own issues to deal with, and I had no reason to be resentful. We all choose our own path, and hell, that friend never did anything to *me*, they just made the choice to do what was necessary to keep in the family.

Power to ya! And, well, as to the consequences --- your screen name says it all.
