Today's WT
by OneFingerSalute inso today's wt seems to put out the idea that during early christian times it was god's hand that made the romans build roads, have strong laws, etc.
to make the preaching easier.. anyone else notice that?
some here really banged on about how great it was that god did that, just for them.

Violias - you know, that was not a personal attack towards all who feel bitter. I don't believe that people need to 'get over it', or anything like that.
Of course, your feelings are valid! I do NOT forgive my abusers, and never will.
My comments are directed to those who think they are leading a huge movement of apostates! And these memes are Educating the PUBLIC! ahahaha! As Judge Judy would say "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining". IOW, these meme creators assume a posture which is untrue: that said memes are helpful in educating people about the WTS. They are no more than expressions of bitterness.

I honestly would like you to think about this question, Fisherman. No need to reply, as I'm not looking to debate or ridicule your beliefs. it's meant to be food for thought..
You said this:
Given a living creature and the same creature dead, the difference between them is the substance that "animates" them.
My question:
A person is brain-dead... medically, scientifically - dead. The only thing keeping that flesh alive is the machines. Is this 'substance' animating the brain-dead body? -

Take a deep breath!
Your mind and logic have figured it out, and that is a wonderful thing. Remembering when I left the religion .... it happened quickly for me, too. Even though I knew it was not the truth, my stomach would churn and I would feel very panicked. This is NORMAL - your world view has been destroyed, and you need time to absorb the shock to your emotions.
You are smart to think first about what you should do. There will be lots of support and good advice here.

"They 'thought' themselves out of the truth, and clearly they are living an unhappy life now!"
by stuckinarut2 inyep, these gems and comments were used in the talk today:.
speaking of ones who "failed to show appreciation for all the rich spiritual food we get from the f&ds", the speaker said this:.
"many have even failed to keep up with everything we are lovingly provided by christ's brothers, and rather than keeping their faith strong, they have become complacent and even critical ofjehovah's provisions!

They have 'thought themselves out of the truth'
Ironically, that is the reality, and the speaker is saying "if you believe in the truth, you are not a thinking person". They came to their senses. And the main reason that ex-JWS are miserable (those who are) is because of the loss of their family!
I can't imagine how hard it would be, to listen to that drivel. It must make you angry, and so sad.

I think they should choose another bona fide actor, rather than a businessman/woman. Think about it. In the 80s, America was convinced that "Reganomics" was sound fiscal policy. If you have a good enough pitchman, people will believe anything.

Just kidding! Well, not really.

Do NOT go to college, system is coming to an end, EVEN in 1969!!!!!
by Jez inif you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that.
you will never grow old in this present system of things... .all evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years... as a young person you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.
if you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career.

I was too young to prevent this, but my parents (who believed that shyte, it was 1972) had me hauled out of HS at age 14, when I had a super scholarship deal for my senior year, as an exchange student in Paris. The Guidance Counsellor had been working with me, but when Mother found out ... well, Jehovah wasn't gonna let that happen! NO, don't let that child be a doctor! So, I don't even remember ages 14-16, but dd leave home at 16 to board with another JW family.
I left the religion when I was 18, and never darkened the door of a KH since. It wasn't easy to go it alone in the 70s, with poor health and a grade X education. But I went back to school, and university, and am proud of my personal achievements.
Fast forward 20 years ... my mother "Oh, and AP (a girl I grew up with, whose father was 'worldly' and mother 'spiritually weak') is a DOCTOR! Isn't that amazing? Her mother is so PROUD!"
"But mom, I wanted to be a doctor and you wouldn't let me."
"That's not true. You *wanted* to leave school."Hypocritical woman that she is. She is the perfect 'elderette'.
Ah, yes, the 1975 Generation. Some of us didn't believe, or buy into that, but still paid the price.
(PS, if you are reading this, AP, don't take offense. I am happy for you! xoxo J)

Compliment or criticism - what affects you most?
by EdenOne ina bit of introspection on this one ... just read on someone's post that a compliment makes him "float" for hours, and it got me thinking; within the spectrum of comments that people make about me, from compliment to criticism, which is the type that most affects me?.
after my experience as a jehovah's witness, i find that i've become suspicious of compliments and over-sensitive to criticism.
because a common technique of elders was to compliment someone before going down to business, that is, giving hard counseling or discipline.

For many years, I was affected by both.
Compliments - what, ME? NO. I will never be good enough!
Criticism - you're right. I'm not good enough.
After years of working through different issues, I've finally come to the place where others' opinions make little difference. I know who I am, and am happy to be me. That is a healthier place to be.xx
