ferris bueller's day off was an huge flick when i was young, and it's a many-layered story.

i was watching this vid, and realized that one reason i love this movie, is that it could be one metaphor for my life.

i took the lead, did it my way, and have had one helluva lot of fun on the journey.

By the way, if you're wanting a great 'wake-up' song, I recommend Twist & Shout .... it's a happy tune, and lots of energy. I also like Jump!, She's A Beauty and Free Your Mind. xx

Is there any music that makes you smile? That says, 'yes, I like my choices'? I have lots; some are more dark, like All Apologies by Nirvana ... this is a happier tune. What's yours?

The danger of thinking we know everything.

a thought occurred that there is a danger in thinking we know everything, or have it all figured out in life.

especially when it comes to matters of doctrine or faith.. witnesses (or at least the society as a whole) are so self-confident, so proud to be the only ones who know "the truth" about everything to do with the universe, the earth, our past and our future, that pride kicks in.

and pride is dangerous...(.and before a fall).

May I add, that posters who are dogmatic, and choose to plague every thread that could be remotely connected to the topic about which they are dogmatic, can be disruptive, and purposely have derailed many a thread. It's akin to a dog, snapping at everyone who comes within reach of its leash. ('dog', get it?) OTOH, it can be like taking candy from a baby, if you choose to be easily amused. hehe.

Umm, Mitchum is one of my fav. film stars, so yes. I don't mean to negate your efforts, but please understand that these kind of posts, have indicated in the past, some off-the-wall, unfortunately misguided efforts that resulted in people being hurt I'm very cautious about any involvement with the "VAA", and rightly so. New folks should be aware of the fact that, if they become involved in any exJW 'movement' organization, they risk having their identity being revealed.

I don't 'know' who you are, but can't trust any anonymous person who is pushing activism. Too many innocent people have been burned in the past by joining the AAWA, and I do NOT trust this leadership. No offense intended. xx

I was at the 1963 convention at Yankee Stadium, NYC. I was 5 YO. My mother had me on a leash, and I can remember baking in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium (bad memory). Also, the 'lead' speaker on Sunday - was a raving lunatic, scary to my 5YO sensibilities. Was it Franz or Knorr? My 5YO brain says "Knorr", but that was a long time ago.

To the OP, BB. I instantly thought of the expression "loyal to a fault". That would describe one of my parents, and I've learned that sometimes it's good to examine who and what you are loyal to, and perhaps change that focus to another purpose. It's good to be faithful, loyal - it's a sign of a good friend. Once you find out that the object of your trust is false, it's time to let go of being loyal to them. xx tal

I had to chuckle at WWFD, because I thought of Farkel, who was a friend here, and has now passed. Farkel would say "Don't let them get you! Play their game and WIN!"

Politics at work, for me, is the worst. I'm not good at it, either. I wish you the best and if you are *that* good at your job, as an administrator or scientist, you CAN weather this storm! Thinking of you ... xo tal

Your english communication is great! Like you, I was 'born in' the JW. It is hard to be 'cast out' at 20, and I understand. You are still young, though, and have the time to create a new life for yourself.

Are you in Europe, or another part of the world? Let us know; we have members worldwide, and there will be suggestions and ways that others will know, that can help you to have a better life. xo tal

When your oldest friend is a JW and they die

in my book, i wept by the rivers of babylon, i described the process of having a friend, johnny santa cruz, use our friendship as a platform for converting me to a jehovah's witness.. that friendship cost me decades of my life in bondage to a cult.. the friendship was real and johnny and i bonded for life.

but, the religion eventually turned him into a stone silence toward me--his oldest friend.

now he is dead and the imaginary reunion and meeting of the minds is no longer a possibility.. this makes his passing a double tragedy.. his memories were my memories.
