Yes, it was a requirement back in the 70's. I was married in a kh in 1974. Because my then to be husband had just been baptized, some in the congregation disapproved so half of the congregation would not come to my wedding. But I got the last laugh, he was the one who helped me get out of the cult. Took a lot of years for both of us, but we are both out.

The one rule I could never understand was no beards were allowed. They even started showing Jesus in a beard in the illustrations in publications, but the bothers we not allowed to grow one. Why??? No scriptural answer was ever given. Now personally I like beards a lot.
I pushed the envelope a lot. . . wore pants to a circuit assembly. . .wore a mini dress to give a part on stage. . .they asked me to change before they would let me do the part.. . .caused division in the congregation by dating a man who was studying and not baptized. . .a circuit overseer even came to see me on that one. And he was hateful. . . I guess they weren't preaching love at that time. Years later went to a company Christmas party and got told on by another jw I was working with. Got visited by elder. . .it goes on and on. If I see any of them now I have learned some new hand gestures that I use.
Tammy. . .I have a cousin that lives in Oregon named Tammy. Her mother's name is Margie. If you think you might be my cousin and would like to talk my email is [email protected].

70s clothes
by Gadget ini'm going to my brothers birthday party in september, and the dress code is the 70s.
i'm a bit stuck on where the best place to get hold of 70s clothes, and what sort of things do you recomend?
i fancy wearing a pair of platforms as i'm not too tall, but how easy are they to walk in after a few drinks?

I agree with Nina.....whew ugly. My daughter gets some funky things at good will. Probably anything ugly would do. If I remember there were checks paired with flowers. Just mismatch something in you closet.

A Question for Those Who Believe in a Higher Power...
by Piph in...but not necessarily the bible.
do you pray?
what do you call him/her?
-
rockon
I ask for things that can not be provided except by a higher power. Hard to explain, but I wanted to see if God would still answer my prayers. I don't care whether you believe it or agree with it or think it is silly. It is what gets me thru the day.

Piph,
I still believe in god and pray constantly. About stupid everyday things. And yes, he still answers my prayers. I test him all the time. It just in jwland they always told you that unless you were a jw he wouldn't answer your prayers. WRONG!!!! So when a jw says come back to meetings, I say well, God is still answering my prayers so I must be ok in his eyes. And he and Jesus are the only ones I care about. They (jw) have also put in your mind that you cannot have a close relationship with God without them. AGAIN WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are letting them interfere with your thinking. I am so sorry you are going through a rough time.
