Birthdays
by 9thWonder ini have been df'd for over 3 years (for the third time... you know it's the charm).
i have an 8 year old who is being taught by my parents the same things that i was taught, including how we can't celebrate birthdays.
i have been doing a little research on the origin of worldly customs, such as weddings and birthdays only to find that there are many wedding customs that witnesses have adopted that have pegan origins.

I have been having birthday parties for my kids ever since they were born, (ages 7 and 3). And been having a blast with it too! I finally had to ask of my my jw parents, that they stop teaching my son what the wts teaches about birthdays. My son was really getting confused by them. Here we celebrate, and he sees all these good people partaking, (hubbies side of the family, my friends, etc) and then his other grandparents tell him those who celebrate will die. Great way to screw up a 7 year olds mind.
Good luck with your first birthday celebration, congratulations, and happy b-day to your son.
Also, Welcome!

New member - quick hello
by melmoth injust registered and thought i'd say hello.
been browsing the board here occasionally for a while, and thought i might want to join in now and then, so here i am.
for me, a lot of this brings up odd memories from long ago - though for many struggling in the jehovah's witless grip currently, it's clearly a lifeline and i wish it had been around when i was 'doing the fade' (as i've seen it referred to, and a great way to put it, btw) nearly 20 years ago.

Should I push him over the edge?
by DannyBloem ini had a long talk with an elder i know very well this morning.
we had a talk about the religion changes, like the 1975 thing etc.
he agrees to me that the gb are not let only by holy spirit, maybe only that has a use for this organisation.

So, should I push him over the edge or not...
Not. Unelss he is someone to you, that is hurting your or your family, because of the teachings, i.e. shunning etc. Not at his age, what for?

A Common Dub Type?: The henpecked ubm who joins because of his nagging wife
by Check_Your_Premises ini have been around enough to recognize certain patterns in dub membership.
for instance there is a very common situation, where a dub gets df, marries a worldy promising never to return, has a kid, gets reinstated, and then we have to console some poor sob who shows up here trying to figure out what the hell just happened to his/her life.
i think i have isolated another common dub type; the weenie husband, whose wife joins, and then he joins too because his wife wears the pants and he does what he is told.

This was sort of true in my parents case. My dad did follow my mother in, but he was definately never a hen pecked weinie. But I think it may have been out of guilt, because he abused her, and she ran to the cult for cover.

Wow, good for you Richie! Congratulations. You used the society's recommended "once returned a wallet" line on your app didnt you, must have been what did it for ya. Let me know if any of the sexual harassment gets too unbearable (ly fun), Auntie Netty may have to run to your rescue.
Warming up the stat board for ya, hope to make you proud!
do you guys do tofu, cause I don't do chickens;)
No, but I hear FROG tastes like chicken.
