You've had a ton of responses to your question, and I havent read all of them, so forgive me if this repeats what someone else said. But, I WISH WISH WISH I would have had someone who could have refused to let me go out on service when I was a kid. Your poor kids, not only will they hate it, like I did. But what a nervous wreck they will be if they happen to be working territory where they may run into someone they know from school. That was all so embarassing when I was forced to do it. As far as leaving it up to them, it wont really be up to them, if you leave it open, trust me their mother will force them. Save your poor kids. Like I said, I wish someone could have saved me.

What would you do?
by pratt1 inlet's say that a young relative of yours is a dub, 16 years old, and live with her dub parents.. she has come to you because she is pregant and needs you moral and financial support in this matter.. because she was in denial about her condition, if she has an abortion (which is what she wants) it would require a short hopital stay.
she is 11 weeks i think.. what do you do?.
1. tell her parents?.

I dont think this should have a whole lot to do with being a JW or not. How could you not tell her parents? Remember, she is a minor. I know if my daughter was in this predicament, and a grown responsible adult knew and did not tell me, I would be livid, JW or not.

Whenever the name "Jehovah" is mentioned, like on T.V. or in a movie, etc. I remeber it being mentioned in one of the Indiana Jones Movies, temple of doom I think, and ay, ay, ay, how nuts everybody went about. Shish!

Did every congregation have one or two desperate singletons?
by diamondblue1974 in.
i remember in the kh i went to there was always at least one desperate singleton who would sniff around the single women particularly the ones which were his own age...he was mid 40s i seem to believe...never had a girlfriend and would have married anybody who wouldve had him.
there was no real harm in him...just lonely i expect but i think he made most women skwirm.. what about you...did your hall have its own resident 'single sister stalker'?

We had one, a female though. She wasn't just the congregation desperado, she was the city's desperado. She was known in the entire city for being the first one "on scene" whenever there was a new brother in town. She started somewhere in her teens to look for a husband. And she only married about 2 or 3 years ago, at around 40 years of age, a 25 year search.
It was real hard around here, the ratio seemed to be about 100 single sisters, for every one single brother. Part of many things that discouraged me away from the organization, we were told we were to just "wait on Jehovah..."

Why did you chose to join a cult?
by Gill inmany of us here were born into the jw cult and so had no real choice in life until we were much older.. however, those of you who actually chose to join the cult and be a jw, can you explain 'why' you wanted to believe 'the troof' that they claimed to have.
didn't it appear too good to be true?.
why would you want to put those kinds of restraints on your life and your mind?

Children of the 80's!
by MelbaToast inalright, i admit, i was a child of the 80s (or what i can remember) but the real reason for this thread is i have noticed that there is quite a few of people on this site that are close to me in age or just a little bit younger or older.
i will be 28 in june.
i think that this period in my life is a deep questioning period, because at younger ages i didnt give a flip about anything jw or ex-jw for that matter.

I'm 38, so guess I still count as a child of the 80's, I was a teenager. Not to be a downer, but SHISH was that ever the worst time of my life. It was so hard to be in high school and be a witless, and then to be 18 19 and trying to figure out what to do with your life, and how to fade away from the org, yuk yuk yuk. Anyhow, the 90's were better for me.
