as a dub it always made me wonder if the years spoken of in genesis were real years or something got lost in the translations.. consider the first man adam was alive at the same time methusela was.

methusela died the same year as the flood.

this means two mens lifetimes covered the period from creation to the flood.

Consider the first man Adam was alive at the same time Methusela was. Methusela died the same year as the flood. This means two mens lifetimes covered the period from creation to the flood. Does it seem logical or reasonable that no one spoke to Adam about his ordeal or that detailed accounts were not passed down either orally or in written form. I would have thought people would have travelled far and wide to see and speak to the first man created unless they thought he was full of it...Did you hear about that old man Adam he thinks he is the originator of all mankind ha ha ha.

When you look through history man has always sought out people like Adam for guidance often making them rulers or leaders which Adam seems like he was neither.

On the flood topic how would it be possible for the Ark to float for a year and end up so close to its starting point. If you set something adrift on the ocean it surely would not stay in the same place or even within thousands of miles after a year adrift.

What are your thoughts?

one of the things the society prides itself over is that jw's are not only preachers but also teachers.

jw's are told that they have the "best education in the world".

jw's are taught for a number of months before they are allowed to get baptized.

I know for myself I certainly did not understand the full consequences of my baptism and I was 22 not 9.

As for all the questions, I can't remember one. I remember being asked if I had already dedicated myself to jah in prayer, I said yes but should have added it seemed empty and no different from any other prayer.

I think most teens are a little more informed today then what they were 15 to 20 years ago about the WT shortcomings, at least I hope so.

Rocketman made a good point too, Phillip never asked the Ethiopian to complete his studies of Isaiah or answer a set of questions, he taught him briefly about Jesus and baptized him.

What TV shows were you told not to watch as a JW ???

it got me thinking, about tv shows, anything in particular you were told not to watch, being a little kid in the 70's i do remember hearing shows from the platform that we should not watch.

The Goodies as a child because they had beards, Threes company because Jack pretended to be gay and anything with sex, violence or the occult which rules the FOX network totally out.

No "by products" please!!

did any of you go by the rule to look for meat without any "by products" when you were shopping in order to avoid eating blood?

personally, i didn't care.. also, as a child, i remember going to pizza hut with a couple of jws, and they'd ask the waiter if their pepperoni had any "by products" in it.

how many of you think the waiters told the truth when they said "no"?

Its not just human food, I've met many loyal dubs who will not feed their dogs or cats food with by products in them.

A freaking cat which eats mice and other varmints....sheesh. I was with a group as a teen when a good little dubbie asked the pimplefaced teen behind the counter if the Pizza had blood in it......he must have thought we were nuts..and rightly so.
