the postman has just brought another batch of get-well cards.

thank you so much, my friends, there have been so many, most without a return addy that i feel quite overwhelmed by all of this kindness.. just an update: (not for the squeamish).

i'm recovering well, although i can't walk more than about 50 yards at present.

Glad your feeling better, too bad about the infection...please if any more infections break out be a little more mysterious in your description.

BTW..is it mere coincidence that pubs in the UK are about 50 yards apart.

What are good versions/translations of the Bible?

hi i'm new to this site.

i was raised a jw, i'm now 28, and left about a year ago.

the only bible i've ever looked at is the new world translation.. objectively.. how good do you think the nwt is?.

It comes in handy for swatting flies, propping up a table leg, holding papers down on a windy day and it's also alot of fun finding all the contradictions the dimwitted writers made while they wrote it.

If I had to choose a bible it would probably be the NIV, mind you I would still swat flies with it...occasionally.

Have you tried renewing your WT subscription.

I think there is a warning label on it somewhere about causing drowsiness and not to operate farm equipment while reading it so be careful.

Criticisms of Pastor Russell

jens in a pm reminded me of a pastor russell biography that was in the works some years ago.

problems after problems prevented it from going forward.

in the meanwhile there have been a few pastor russell's biographies in the works, some by bible students others by outsiders.

I don't see what you can gain by defending Russell, surely not anymore than what we gain by criticizing him.

Nothing really, we get a little satisfaction in blaming someone for getting the ball rolling which has adversely affected the lives of most forum members.

Do you believe he taught the truth, or would you agree all he did was start up a new religion of sorts?

From all the sources I've read I don't believe he had too many original ideas, he simply had the money and the drive to package and promote his ideas more than most.

Honestly, if you read Studies in the Scriptures you must agree that nearly all of his teachings were either erroneous or at times just plain silly.

Good man, bad man...does it really matter. His legacy is what he taught and the bulk of it is not something to be proud of.

If you want to submit something for research, submit his teachings and critically analyze them as you have the WTBTS.

Use the same method of research which freed you from WT beliefs.

Your right, quite a see-saw day you had.

Unfortunatey, he mentioned that he will always be dissapointed in me and never believe I am a good person (oh but he still loves me) which really hurts.

He can't though because I am not going out in field service or meetings...that is the only way I can be doing good. I could be dying but as long as I am going to meetings I am good.

I'm not sure bot how deep you go into discussions with your dad when it comes to JW issues and teachings. It's hard to appeal to his sense of reason when being good revolves solely around worshiping the WT.

Are people who give time freely to help feed the homeless good people? Guess not!

Are celebrities who put themselves in harms way to promote feeding starving children and removing landmines good people? Nope not these ones either!

Does the UN have good people who promote good ideas in many different lands..if not why did the Awake mag say they did?

If being good depended on going door to door and sharing false prophecies and tidbits about world events the National Enquirer would be a far better read than the WT and Awake and a little more trustworthy.

I'm sure your dad loves you bot. I'm just sorry for the stupid way he treats you while under they're mind control.
