thank you for your comments. Rather complicated for me at the moment as not really planning an exit strategy as such. I am still mulling over the generation teaching and many other things. My wife is fully in and any change would devestate her. So a lot to think about, but nice to be able to kick it all around with people on here without fear of censure.

New Handbill Campaign
by NoRegrets inapparently the jws are doing a new handbill campaign.
they were just at my door and offered it to me with one of their heartless and scripted presentations.
the religion has just become so dumbed down.

To JW daughter
If they were looking for Spanish speakers, as I assume they were from your post, they would be discouraged from speaking to English speakers. There is a slightly complicated arrangement in many countries, including the country I serve in, where, if you are part of a Spanish group you only try to reach Spanish speakers. The English congs or groups only speak to English speakers. This means that different language groups may work the same area at different times but only try to contact those who speak their language. So even though it seems weird that they don't engage with you in English, there is a reason for it!

Hi Sam, from your posts you seem quite wise so I was expecting that you were somebody much older. Older than 40 even! You remind me of somebody I know who I couldn't believe was 40 until she assured me she was. What youth drug are you on?

I really appreciate your post. Yes, very daunting to think of life outside the cong. I am a bit of a loner besides the company of my wife so the close assoc with others is not such a big deal, but more the overall comfort blanket of the worldwide association and the group of bros at the hall, even though I have only ever had a few close friends in the truth, and even those are in the end conditional on being a bro in good standing. It's the beguiling nature of the kingdom hall safety net that is so addictive, the smiles, the handshakes , the general camaraderie, the thought of all going in the same direction. I am reminded of the old song 'We're on the one road, sharing the one load, we're on the road to God knows where. We're on the one road, it's maybe the wrong road, but we're together now who cares!' This is an old Irish Republican song about people from all over Ireland uniting to fight a common enemy, maybe a bit too apt in terms of loyalty to the organization no matter what.

What makes it very difficult is that in the main those in the congregations are very honest, moral people. We were at a wedding recently and it was so well organised and full of love and fellowship. Some will argue that this is not a good reason to stay with something, for the moral values and the feeling of trust and safety, but it does show the power of having a strong moral compass. This wedding had no drunkenness, no swearing, no smoking (waiting for the comments about how it must have been boring then!) but there is a great value in this way of living, despite the doubts about the doctrinal issues. As you can see, these are the main problem for me, as well as the mind control aspect which I find disconcerting.

Our meeting is on Saturday night so tonight I conducted the wt study and it was ok as it was a pretty non-controversial subject.

YOU WILL NEVER SEE THESE ACTS EVER MENTIONED IN A WATCHTOWER PUBLICATION
by steve2 infaking of hours in field service or dragging service time out by making coffee stops or driving for hours "between" household contacts are never frowned upon, let alone mentioned, in the publications.
.
yet, in each congregation of jehovah's witnesses, to one degree or another, faking hours, padding time out with coffee stops and long journeys between opportunities to "witness" are endemic practices..

Often thought about this. The whole concept of reporting field service is of course supposedly predicated on the notion that it helps the organization to focus on areas that need more work etc. if there is a need in a certain area. Unfortunately it leads to a 'what can I get away with' idea or a comparing of self with others, or if you are feeling low, how little I can report without raising concerns about my spirituality. If the report was taken out of the equation then we could all do what we want without, as Galatians says, 'in comparison with the other person.'

Lots of interesting reactions here. Only a day after first post so still feeling pretty weird. Went on ministry today with our group. No real positive reaction to what we said. Don't want to reveal too much about location etc. but we are an English group sponsored by a local congregation which is not English speaking. So the native language of the country I am in is not English. This is how I am conducting the Watchtower study, but alongside us we have a Watchtower study in the local language. So I am the kingpin in the English group, as it were. This means that everything that happens in this group depends on me. Not complicated at all then if one is having doubts, eh?
