You made a very good point here. Passign out a flyer is much easier and cheaper than leaving magazines. More ways to make field service feel more special than leaving the average Watchtower/Awake magazine. And by calling it a "campaign", it makes the average JW feel like they are participating in something new, that's for a limited time, kind of like a holiday sale at a store.

The reason the Society keeps everyone busy with "campaigns"
by stuckinarut2 inim sure that many have had an experience where we try and keep little kids "occupied" while on a boring trip, such as a car ride or plane flight.. we come up with "games" like..."lets see how many green cars we can count", or "lets try and see who can sit still for the longest time".
"the winner gets a prize!".
obviously, until they are wise enough to cotton on, all we are doing is keeping them occupied to prevent them asking things like "are we there yet?!".

Very well handled in my opinion. You did a great job. I've noticed that witnesses always pull out the preaching card but you brought up some very good points against that, something I could use as well.
as for the FDS, here's another discrepancy You can point out. It says that the slave was already appointed over the master's domestics in 1919 according to the Watchtower July 15, 2013 p. 22,23 Based off of Mathew 24:45 which says: “Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time?
Notice it says "appointed" as in past tense, already done. Now compare it to Luke 12:42 which is the same parable: "And the Lord said: 'Who really is the faithful steward, the discreet one, whom his master will appoint over his body of attendants to keep giving them their measure of food supplies at the proper time?'"
now it says "will appoint", in the future. Why does one use past tense and the other future tense? The Governing body says they were already appointed but Luke refutes that. I asked my parents and a friend of theirs this question and I couldn't find a good answer.

The MS in my congregation passes the electronic forms out to us by email. It's been like that for a while now. Of course, I get them much quicker and earlier on this site ;P

Starting to believe in "new lite" .......
by Blttex ini'm now fully convinced that the society provide new lite!
well, at least the lite that is defined by miriam webster.
they were right all along, just had the wrong spelling.. lite- 2: diminished or lacking in substance or seriousness <litenews>; specifically : being an innocuous or unthreatening version often used postpositively <it is film noir lite james greenberg> .

Lol! the majority of people don't know what JWs teach other than being another religious group trying to convert people and don't celebrate holidays or take blood transfusions. I highly doubt that most even know what 1914 means beyond WW1. People won't really care as long as everyone is getting along doing their own buisness. Point out to a JW that people won't care or notice and they'll talk about the Flood and that people didn't listened Before it came.

If someone refers to the "greek scriptures" is that a sign of JW indoctrination?
by scotoma ini recently had a casual conversation at a bar on the subject of atheism.
they used the expression "greek scriptures".
i didn't pursue it but it made me wonder..

I'm a born in and I've never realized that. I've always thought of it as the New Testament and the Old Testament. Come to think of it, I didn't realize those terms were never used in the Kingdom Hall, funny.

Letters to the Body of Elders (BOE) - Change in Letterhead
by Oubliette inwithin the last few hours, two separate posters, watchtower87 and pixel, independently posted news of a april 22nd, 2014 letter to the boe regarding a change in how elders are to be appointed and deleted:.
boe - pdf - confidential 2014-04-22 adjustment in process for appointing elders and minisletter to boe: adjustment in process for appointing elders and ministerial servantswhat i found very interesting is the letterhead and the signature.
they are both from "the governing body of jehovah's witnesses" and not from "the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses.".

That's very interesting, the new heading. It does give them a more authorities sense. Maybe it's to get their name out there. To me, it looks like they're harboring more control. Cut out the DO, less people to get through. Now the Governing Body is closer to viewing over the elders. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next. The clearer reason could show up later.

What I found surprising was when he said "we're not saying its wrong to read literature publised against Jehovah's Witnesses" (7:30) what???? since when??? Another thing was when he was saying that being brilliant wasn't always a good thing (25:15) then he goes on to say that Ptolemys canon was a fraud- but thats not true. He was talking about Robert R. Newtons books "The Crimes of Ptolemy" which has problems in it and JW influences. Nothing certian about Sintuko's claim. Ironically he does a brief mention of 1975 when he was the one doing speeches on it.

Hey....where's my invitiation ???
by exwhyzee ini was in my company truck again today, pulled over to the side of the road in a neighborhood, doing some measuring and looking for some survey markers.. a group of jw's were working their way down the street toward me.
the 2 middle aged ladies were smartly dressed, one had brightly colored highly styled auburn hair and was wearing large noticeable jewlry.
the brother was late 50's hispanic also smartly dressed in a black top coat and seemed like he might be elder material.
