  Congregation votes to rent house for Couple's School Grads? What's with that? Heard of this before?

  a couple of grads from the "couple's school" are now serving in the local congregation after finishing.

  they will be here a year.

  i asked what work he does.

  Never heard this happening but I did over hear someone in my congegation say they plan to build houses for missionaries and special pioneers. Free houses to live in. They may not get paid much money or hardly at all in a direct way, but they still get all the necessary needs for free! Plus, free food from the congregation when they come around.

  Wrong Memorial address

  because it was the memorial today (yesterday for some of you around the world), i remembered something that happened last year at my now current congregation.

  it was around the time of the campaign where the invites were being released.

  now keep in mind that this is a congregation that's in a foreign language and the people who speak this language are scattered all over the city so the territory is very large and takes time to cover.

  Because it was the memorial today (yesterday for some of you around the world), I remembered something that happened last year at my now current congregation. It was around the time of the campaign where the invites were being released. Now keep in mind that this is a congregation that's in a foreign language and the people who speak this language are scattered all over the city so the territory is very large and takes time to cover. Anyway, they go on the campaign, and the day of the memorial arrives. I get this text from a sister giving me the new address of the memorial location. I planned to go to my old hall that time so it didn't matter for me but I was surprised that they had a new location. So I asked her about it and she told me that they got the wrong address on the invitations! I started to wonder what if someone showed up to the address on the invite only to find the place unavailable. I later brought up the wrong address issue to an elder sometime after the memorial, and he had a serious look saying they weren't sure who put the wrong address on there and they were going to figure out who. I would have hated to be in that guys shoes.

  CONSOLIDATION REQUEST: Branch Closings

  hey all - i was wondering if we can use this thread as an ongoing one to detail branch closings of the last 5 years or so and any moving forward?

  i had a discussion with some members of my family, who are still dyed in the wool jws, and they didn't believe me about numerous branch closures in recent years.

  i was trying to look up some threads that talked about it here (on my phone), but couldn't find a thread quickly.. thanks in advance!.

  You can look at the yearbook numbers for that, just compare. From 2010 to 2011 you can see that they dropped by 20 branches. Jwsurvey has a couple of articles on branch closing and provides links to outside sources like news on them.

  when bethel serves pancakes, do they give you a choice?

  is it only 1 choice.

  it sure would be a deal breaker for me if i didn't get to choose between bacon, or sausages.

  Maybe there's a Bethel special menu, you know, pancakes with the JW.org logo stamped on them, maple syrup to baptize your pancakes in, wholesome non-worldy grown veggies, lake of fire toast, all provides by spirit directed cooks. Oh yeah, there's new light recipes so it updarea every now and then ;)

  Anyone Here Used to Fear Persecution?

  i was thinking today about how i no longer have to fear the attack of satan against the jws.

  i used to fear being rounded up and beaten by mobs.

  seeing my family tortured.

  I remember thinking about this as a kid. I use to imagine how the persecution would be like, similar to what was done in Nazi Germany. I use to fear it and prayes to God several times to protect me and my family when that time would come and help us make it into the New World. My parents would use the persecution idea so we would not leave food on our plates or not to get picky about it. They said something like: "eat your food because what are you going to do when the persecution comes around? You won't have anything there to eat but old bread." Looking back at it now it's just crazy, I can't believe I thought that as a kid. Witnesses are still expecting that day when they will be persecuted.

  is it someone who avidly studies the bible and follows it to a tee?.

  i think a model jw is simply a braindead folower..

  Super preacher, goes out in field service everyday, studies the publications, has his or her watchtower highlighted every study, always cmoments, does the right thing, etc.

  Spring Break! JW kids... Get to WORK!

  while at my local gas station/convenience store this morning, satisfying my caffeine craving with a big cup of iced tea, i saw 3 separate teams of jw's on their way out into field service.. i wasn't sure at first, but after walking past the car and seeing a young boy i remember from the kh, wearing his suit and tie, it became apparent.

  if he and the man escorting him (vaguely familiar to me, but not his father) had not been glaring at me with daggers in their eyes, i might have approached and said hello.

  he and my daughter used to play together, even though she does not remember him at all.

  In my experience, I was always told to go out during my spring break. Luckily my parents never pushed me a lot to go or forgot about taking me along, except for Saturdays. I was always pushed to go those mornings. Congregation never really mentioned it to me, maybe a few times in my life, but that's only cause I was always in the background and I was never paid much attention to. But I do know of other younger ones who spend their vacation time preaching. They are more of those really motivated JWs.

  They've noticed that there are secret "in the closet" apostates in the congregation. Remember that study article for December 2013? Warnings against those who speculate. It's a crack down and rise in paranoia. I'm gonna hate it when this study comes out, I'll have to be more careful with what I say.

  I was also thinking, Paul lived in a time when christianity was still fresh, where there were men who knew the correct way to undsrstand the scriptures, from a biblical view. There were men who taught controversial doctrines but the apostles were still alive. Anyway, the point is that 2,000 years later, there are many religions who claim to be "the truth", believe that they teach the correct thing based on their interpretation of the scriptures. How are we suppose to figure out who's right and wrong? Without examining doctrines, scriptures, and looking at other points of view, it's all one sided. One teaching could be weak and false but you wouldn't know cause it's the only explanation given. No critical thinking.

  Preaching to a Captive Audience in CostCutters!!

  so, i'm sitting in the waiting area, and there's this one lady getting one of those long procedures involving color, etc.

  so, as the stylist is working on her, i can overhear her preaching to her stylist about demons and immortality of the soul, from wt lit, using her ipad!

  she was talking about the topics, referencing the proof verse, and then asking the programmed questions!.

  Hey Phizzy, now you can count that on your ex-jw time sheet and turn it in at the end of the month haha.

  In my mind, I think there are some people that get turned off when people preach to them or talk about their religion. By using "informal witnessing" too often it can turn people away.

  2014 District Convention Releases

  so what do you think will be the new releases this year?

  it seems from everything that has been happening that there will be a new and revised reasoning book to embrase all the new 'adjustments'.

  also, the proclaimers book has to revamped to take out all the things that honor russell or rutherford, after all they weren't annointed anyway.

  There was already released two dvd's on their history released a few years ago But of course it fails to mention a lot. Reasoning book I'm sure will be revised sometime soon. Maybe they will do a revised book now since there's so much "new light" flooding in
