was there one certain event or was it more a cumulative thing?.
The fact that organ transplants were not allowed for a period of time and that was overturned at some point. I read about someone that lost a family member a month before the small âQuestions from readers??â Section at the end of a Wt made transplants a personal choice. It was so little most people wouldâve missed it. I was blown over.
I mentioned it at a meeting with elders I had for an unrelated reason and the college dropout elder said the WT was right to make that change because the technology had developed enough to clean blood properly out of organs and thUS it was a wise and informed decision.
But what about the family that lost a relative a month prior to the WT déçiding this. Itâs amazing how people can justify lost lives with very little empathy and then call themselves Godâs shepherds.
something just dawned on me today as i processed my assimilation into the real world (thanks to our new poster, @jester, giving me a major throwback to my first post).. when you're a jehovah's witness, you really are in some sort of la la land.
things which are perfectly normal are acts of eating from the table of the demons.
things which are horribly grotesque and extremely unjust are branded as "righteousness".
Great post Wakemeup!
Even after 6 years away from the org, my mind is still boggled about how intelligent, empathetic people can be turned to behave in a ludicrous fashion. But then of course - its' a cult!
It makes me wonder sometimes - did the founders of the religion actually decide ahead to introduce tried-and-tested cult methods within the organization, or did these rules, thinking/mentality evolve as time went on.
my grandfather is a longtime jw with advanced parkinson's.
on the advice of a good friend mine who is inactive but not "out" i went to visit him monday and we talked for awhile.
his health isn't well, but he was happy to see me.
Lol dubstep - now that makes sense!
Saethydd go see your grandpa again if you feel like it. There's very little anyone can do to shake a JW living in alternate reality I've realized. Focus is to take care of your mental health and do what you feel right in this circumstance.hi all.. it's being a while that i don't share in the forum.
after moving to another country and finding a job, i asked my congregation in my country to send my publishing card here.
once i did it, i stopped attending meetings.
Congratulations!! I did the same as you 6 years ago and dread to think of what it would be like if I hadnât made this leap. Life is so much more worth living without constraining, restraining people watching over you and your having to pretend to be someone youâre not!
has anyone watched the netflix documentary series called "the keepers"?
it's a true life based series about the murder of a nun and the associated coverup (church + state).
it was riveting to see how much can be swept under the carpet (even today?!

It was riveting to see how much can be swept under the carpet (even today?!) to keep someone's dirty laundry out in the closet. If anyone here happens to watch it, I look forward to hearing your comments.
we haven't heard much recently about india.
whats the current situation over there?
.
I was in India (Kerala) last month for my sisterâs wedding â she just got married to a Bethelite (Lord save her), and I thought I should add my two pence here.
- Kerala definitely has a lot of JWâs
- Keralites (and a lot of south Indians) take religion super seriously. Most mornings, in the village where I was at, I would wake up to the shrieking sounds of women screaming out their devotion to Jesus, Hindu chants to whoever, and the required call for prayer (this wasnât the loudest though. Itâs a contest. All of them used deafening speakers â the decibel levels were incredible. All this starts at 4:30 in the morning. Never seen noise pollution like this before.
- Ok I just got off the phone with my mum and she says theyâve placed more speakers closer to their front gate (like wth!)
- My sister has told me of a bizarre Hindu custom where devotees attach themselves to hooks, and get dragged through the streets. Apparently this has happened in my parentsâ village. Do not open this link if youâre lighthearted: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3414449/Worshippers-display-devotion-piercing-skin-hooks-spikes-Hindu-festival.html
- People generally donât turn you away, you can walk uninvited into a personâs house to start preaching with no introduction. The subject of God is welcome in most environments
- Poverty is rampant in many parts of India. Like one of the posters said, a lot of people will switch to a new church as soon as they receive more benefits. Iâm sure thatâs how my ancestors converted to Christianity (from Hinduism). The missionaries brought with them opportunities for education, healthcare etc
- Thereâs definitely a lot of âlocalâ JW customs and rules. This is partly why the society (? Do we still use this word?) is inviting all the non-resident Indians to go back to India. Probably to knock some sense into the poor locals being JW their own way
- I had this pest of a middle aged anointed JW bother me throughout the time I was there. As if sitting through a meeting wasnât hard enough, he would come after to badger me saying I HAD to move to india to take care of my parents (believe me theyâre just fine), take my sisters place and do the full time ministry. That there was no use in living where I do because there are enough JWâs here and India is the place to be. I started to rudely ignore him after the first couple of times this happened. (bad me I know, but he was just a pain!)

I'm just glad to be back home now. I need a vacation from my vacation! :P
this site is such a great and valuable resource and simon is to be commended for running it for so long.
when i first came i was in such a bad state and really needed support and friendship.
so many posters commented on my threads and showed genuine care some are real life friends, some are facebook friends, some i talk to on the phone and some are forum friends.. i have just realised though that everyone online is not your friend.
Hey Kate
Im sure you're a lovely person and looking for friends is important, but like someone pointed out in this thread u need to find yourself before you can find your friends.
It sounds lame I'm sure but I've been helped to connect more with myself through yoga and meditation. Highly recommend eckhart tolle's "power of now".
peace outxx
as our fade continues, the wife and i have decided to take up "the forbidden practice of.......yoga"!!!!đ±.
i was quite skeptical at first but so far it has really de-stressed our life in quite a spectacular way!!
not to mention the physical benefits.. anyone else try yoga or a similar discipline?
and a happy birthday to anybody else who born on the 5/7 month.
smiddy.
Happy birthday :D
