Have you looked into the Unitarian Universalist Church? No strong dogma, pretty much believe what you want, but provide an accepting community.

New Religion where to look?
by Alostpuppydog inhas anyone found any religion that makes more sense than the watchtower organization?
obviously catholics make even less sense than them so don't say that.... the reason i ask is because i still believe the bible is the word of god, but just that the jw's have twisted it for their own benefit, as most religions seem to do....

I also used an epilady in the 80's....OUCH!!!
I prefer waxing, or more accurately "sugaring". It's time consuming to do yourself, but it lasts much longer than shaving, and no stubble, the hair is much softer when it grows back.

Bizarre comment about jw.org at SAD
by sir82 inrecently attended a sad.. bethel speaker was gushing about the wt's embrace of new technology, in the part of his talk warning about "apostate" web sites.. a loose summary of his comments:.
"and the brothers at headquarters have made it very safe for you to go to our website.
in fact, the brothers talked to the folks at google, and they made a special arrangement so that when you type in 'j w period' into the google search engine, it automatically shows you the jw.org website.

I typed "Catholic" into Google, the first site was "Catholic.org" (not the Vatican)
Then, I typed "lds" , the first site was "lds.org", the official site for the Mormons.
Then, I searched "target", the first site was "Target.com", the official website for Target stores.
Now, I don't really know how Google works, I'm just guessing, but it seems logical that if there is an "official" organization represented by a word, that would be the first up. Maybe they trademarked the jw acronym? That would ensure that jw.org would be first up? Or maybe it's just logical: jw=jehovah's witness, jw.org=official website of jehovah's witnesses.
Just my 2 cents

I spent many years mourning the loss of my family. I don't need to do it again when their body dies.

I've been disfellowshipped for 30 years now. No contact with my family. But one of the things I remember about studying with newcomers was that you did not bring up some of the more outrageous beliefs until they start attending meetings regularly and/or are baptized. This is one of the marks of a high-control, destructive cult. They are secretive and purposely misleading to outsiders. Many Jehovah's Witnesses are lovely, caring people, but the religion itself? Not so much.
It's rather unusual in my experience (although my frame of reference is from the early 80's) that a bible study would continue for three years without "making progress" = attending meetings, field service, baptism. Although it's much more pleasant to count your field service hours on a bible study than knocking on strangers doors!
I would recommend JWFacts and Steve Hassan's website, Freedomofmind.com
