i had a talk with my best friend (who is still an active jw) the other day, and told her that i wasn't interested in remaining an active witness any more.
i knew she would accept my feelings, because she's a wonderful person and is actually very emotionally healthy, but was afraid because i didn't really know how tight a grip the mind control had on her, and didn't know if she would feel obligated to back off in our friendship any.
i was deeply afraid of that, because we're as close, if not closer than, sisters.. to my pleasant surprise, she not only totally accepted my feelings, but she already knew what i was going to say before i said it.
yay for piph!!! i am so so happy for you, girl!!! :)
the husband and i went to see "house of the dead" the other night, and 30 minutes into it we had to leave because it was so horrible.
rarely have i seen such bad acting outside of a highschool drama performance, and i have never left during a movie.. thing is, i love going to the movies, so it was a major disappointment.
have you seen any good ones lately?
i don't go see movies too often any more. some of my faves are:
the salton sea
mulholland drive
blue velvet
donnie darko
the talented mr ripley
memento
following
the believer
texas chainsaw massacre (i know, kind of out of keeping with the rest, but i swear, it's good!! :P )
all of these are quality kick ass movies in my opinion
welcome to the forum, dan :)
awww...thank you michelle. that is so sweet of you. :)
i thought you would enjoy this gem from the archives.
james - enjoy.
jehovah?s witnesses, in their eagerness for jesus?
You won't find any literature older than 10 years back in my house. I only keep up with the latest in this ever changing organization.
O - M - G !!!!!!!
I nominate Doubtfully Yours for the "most comical poster ever" award. Anyone wanna second??
so i turned 27 years old last week.
my girlfriend bought me a "happy first birthday" card in comedic fashion.
what sage advice would you give me?
But, how does one avoid a myopic subjectivism, though?
Well, for starters, you can stop using phrases like "myopic subjectivism" in conversation. ;) just kidding. i don't have any good advice. you seem to have your head screwed on pretty straight to me. argue with more cute girls, maybe ;)
luv ya bradley, happy first b-day. ;)
the recent thread about the 5yr old baptized got me to thinking....... i learned to read at an early age.
i was also in all the gifted classes in school.
i remember a great deal of the witness kids were in gifted classes.
So many here said they could read so early, yet it did not help us to see the crap we were being fed
This is a really interesting comment.
On the one hand i can see examples of the truth of this statement. my sister and i both began to read at a very early age. She is still a hardcore Jehovah's Witness and likely always will be. It does take a certain amount of intelligence to do the mental gymnastics required to make JW theology seem cohesive, after all. I really believe that. I, on the other hand, credit the fact that i left the organization in large part to the fact that i read early and often, everything i could get my hands on. And honestly i would have left much sooner had i not been brought up in such a social fishbowl. It's difficult to imagine that your entire worldview is incorrect if you have nothing to compare it to. I can't say why i went the opposite direction, i can't say with absolute certainty that if i had been a late bloomer as far as reading is concerned that i would not have left anyway.
anyhow, those are just my rambling thoughts. thanks for the comment blondie, it piqued my interest :)

LOL euph!!
poor bradley, i feel bad, i KNOW he did not mean to come off condescending.
having said that, how 'bout just:
"Tink:
You're wrong. Here's why. And i could care less what you look like."
i have always been an idealist :P

fwiw, we usually never know the positive effect of our posts, and, quite honestly, many of the best things I've learned (and continue to learn) on this db have been from the female perspective...Men are from Mars, and all that. Chin up, dear lady
true craig. but i have been told on several occasions that it was a shame to argue with someone as "cute" as me. (god, i HATE that word.) and i really find that very insulting and would rather not hear it.
