WT March 2014 : "Let your yes be a yes, but your UBM's no is not a no"
by The Song Remains The Same inwife has gone out to the kh this a.m., so i thought i'd balance the world karma by reading jwn, and then looked on jw.borg to see if the stats are up yet.
they weren't so i check out the latest study edition as i promised her i would mark one up in all sorts of colours to show the various techniques employed to guide jw's.... anyway, i noticed the contradiction in the two articles; "your speechyes and yet no?
" and "reaching the heart of unbelieving relatives" where in the first they are saying if you say yes, mean it, or if you say no, mean it.

YOU WILL NEVER SEE THESE ACTS EVER MENTIONED IN A WATCHTOWER PUBLICATION
by steve2 infaking of hours in field service or dragging service time out by making coffee stops or driving for hours "between" household contacts are never frowned upon, let alone mentioned, in the publications.
.
yet, in each congregation of jehovah's witnesses, to one degree or another, faking hours, padding time out with coffee stops and long journeys between opportunities to "witness" are endemic practices..

Pioneer couple in our congregation put a leaflet through someones door on the way to meet the group so they can start to count time, drive for 20 minutes, meet group, make a phone call in car park which means for them at least they count time straight through, they have been doing this for years. And then most days they sit all day behind the new carts with literature on. Now thats a job they do not want to give up on and they get quite nasty if others would like to have a go! They only want to sit on cart outside KH because they can make coffee all day and eat free cake left in hall. All the pioneers in our hall count coffee breaks no matter how long! One sister writes up all her good talks of the morning while eating her lunch for an hour and counts through.
Others sit all day no matter what the weather on benches near to the carts around town.
If you pioneer and you put a leaflet through a door at 8am write up some notes in the car, meet the group, make a call in the car park. Sit behind cart all day/or actually knock on doors for an hour, then coffee break, count through, lunch, count through, afternoon maybe rvs visiting friends. Finally leaflet through door of neighbour HOME Thats a 8am start and a 5pm finish 9 hours of field service.

Christmas Field Service
by NeverKnew inon another thread, i read that a few adherents may be traveling (cough-cough) to other cities and wouldn't be able to make field service on christmas day.. what is the likelihood that going out on christmas will be encouraged at the weekend services at the khs?
...or do most halls stay neutral on this?
given what i've read on this forum, i have the impression that disrespecting a day of other's celebration wouldn't be discouraged which annoys the heck out of me..

10am field service group from hall on christmas morning door to door. No I will not be going out on that day or boxing day or new years day. Two elders are very vocal about going out and are then very vocal/nasty verbally to those that do not. They are just bullys and nasty!

COMPETITION IN THE CONGREGATION!
by ADJUSTMENTS inthere always seemed to be a level of unspoken competition within the congregation.
wether it be between elders, ms, pioneers, etc... who's kids are doing more, who gets more hours out, who comments the most or the best, who gives the best parts, whos kids are the best, who has the better car, who has the better house, who has the better job and so on... it's not openly discussed but you can discern it through conversations, sometimes you can hear undertones of jealousy or meddling in others business, this always bothered me!
if this is gods organization whats with all the jealousy and competiton, i would see other religions or organizatons with less of these issues and question it!.

This is so true Adjustments!
And Julia Orwell again so true, what is it with broth sis, going to meetings with flu, coughing and spluttering through the meeting.
You are all so right! And the elders with the biggest house, car, the ones that had the education and now have good jobs and earn big wages and have holidays abroad every year why are they and the wife allways the ones to be so vocal at meetings in talks and when answering about not having an education or the biggest and best of everything when thats exactly what they do.
The elders wives who get gifts at the end of a pioneer month, because it just exhausts them. And why do they all stick together socially, going out for meals to each others homes but never inviting the not so well off/educated!
When they say the congregation is a spiritual paradise with true friends I have to stop myself from laughing!

What are you doing on Christmas day?
by Jen1 inany one out there doing field service?
i have not gone out on that day in years.
and have no intention of ever doing that again.

Any one out there doing field service? I have not gone out on that day in years. And have no intention of ever doing that again. We have an elder in our congreagation who started talking about service on christmas day and how he expects every one out. This was right in the middle of his talk and nothing to do with the talk. He gets really nasty every year, and demmands to know why brothers and sisters did not go out Christmas day, and does the same for new years day. Its funny since him and his wife came to our congreataion a few years ago how most of the elders now go on holiday for christmas or to visit family a long way off! Seriously! The first year he guilted a lot to go out with his continued nasty comments I asked how it had gone some said never again, some horrible, some just rolled there eyes. I asked his wife she said oh it was fantastic you really missed out.
So what will I be doing? A nice long lay in. Soak in bath. Dinner and lots of wine at mums. An evening of TV, in my pjs. And on boxing day? A nice long walk.

Sighhhhhhhh, the Draw Close to Jehovah book again for the Congregation Bible Study.
by Stand for Pure Worship incheck out this gem from the dec 2013 km which explains why it's good to over this book a second go round.. "congregations previously considered this book during 2004 and 2005. however, for many of the approximately two million publishers who have come into the truth since then, this will be the first time that jehovahs endearing qualities have been discussed in detail.for those who studied the book before, the review will help them to deepen their appreciation forjehovahs attributes.ps.119:14".
i gotta kick out of this because i can only think of maybe two or three new ones in our congregation who weren't present when this book was first studied.
at the same time, going over jehovah's qualities isn't something new.

NO! I threw out a load of books last week just kept the basics! Now I am going to have to get through that gang of teenagers that surround the literature counter to get one, to find they have run out I expect! (Trendy bro behind the counters a magnet for all the teenagers)

Late 40s brought up in truth. Left school at 16. Did cleaning work. Pioneered into early 20s, at that time 90 hours a month. Tired and drained all the time! Managed to change to auxillery 60 hours month at the time. Then after a while was able to be a publisher.
I have done cleaning work for years.

Prepare for meetings??
by Jen1 indo you prepare for meetings?
if i go i spend a few minutes underlinging my books/watchtower.. i have noticed that those who do the micks especially notice when your stuff is not underlined, and comments are made after the meeting, not so gentle hints, about study and preperation!
in other words i am being told off, its usually the ones who are highly critical of everything i do, sometimes their whole family seems to be straining to see if my stuff is underlined, i know this because i heard the daughter to family wisper her watchtower is not underlined!.
-

So good to know I am not alone! A big thing in our congregation is to print out all the scriptures in the Watchtower study, so people are waving them around with the watchtower, trying to follow along. I said I could not afford the paper or the print and for once they shut up!

Its two particular families, both elders with critical wives and highly jugemental teenage daughters.
