Meeting a poster
by purplesofa ini want to tell everyone what a joy it was to meet dantheman over the weekend.. i have never felt more comfortable with who i am.
there certainly is an unspoken understanding amongst people that have come away from the jw experiance.
in particular i think we find it difficult to be mean and judgemental to each other.. an unconditional love that we all crave.

Her friend is on her way to being DF'd
by kgav8r inwell, it has been a long week and a half.
things are nearing normalcy.
i fear that something more may happen.

PS: you are wise not to fall into the trap of competing with Gracy. That would be a serious wedge in your relationship, even if you did "win."

From all appearances, Gracy and Lynda have an extremely co-dependent relationship. Now that Lynda is df'd, Gracy is using it as competition with kgav8r, by letting Lynda drag her down and get her disfellowshipped. I do NOT see this as a "sticking by her friend" situation, and as it plays out, seems like Gracy will be laying on the guilt trip. "You got me disfellowshipped, this never would have happened if you had given up your bf, now you have to help me get reinstated, by doing it with me, and that means giving up your bf."
Is that what you mean kgav8r? Either way, I am sorry for you. Gracy and Lynda don't seem to be healthy for each other, no matter how devoted to each other they are. And their relationship muddies the waters, so it seems like you may not have an opportunity to help Lynda get out of the Org intact, because of the developing situation with Gracy's possible df'ing, and the confusion and guilt that is going to create with Lynda. :( -

Don't Like Your Avatar, Don't Like You!
by bigmouth insome time ago i attracted some really agressive responses that surprised me because i had no intention of offending so i had to learn a lot about how to word things on this forum, smiley faces etc so others would know i was pulling their leg, but i oftened wondered if a posters nickname or avatar puts you off instantly??
you know, first impressions.
i would think someone like satanus or mouthy would be intimidating but miss peaches was as nice as pie and this thinking might reflect how i would reply.

I know a guy who talks like this all the time. Problem is, he usually talks the most when he hasn't taken his haldol.

Saw that. "Children as young as 12..." whatever. I wonder what people would say if they knew it was really more like 8 or 9, and if you do any kind of normal teenage rebellion you could lose your friends, family and everything if you aren't "repentant" enough, fast enough to suit the elders?

Ugh from both sides. While I was never married to someone who didn't share my beliefs on the surface, for several years my husband was just "going through the motions." Though I wasn't aware that he wasn't really a true believer, I did know that our so-called spiritual life was a constant struggle, sore point, and in general was very divisive.
It wasn't pleasant for him either because I was never satisfied that he was doing enough, and was constantly upset that he wasn't "taking the spiritual lead."
I would never marry someone who chose to remain a JW, since that is a huge area of her life that will be ruled by them, and it bleeds into every aspect of living, including your marriage. If she choses to embrace her JW faith and you do get married, you will always be regarded as her biggest mistake, and a dead body strapped to her back* by many in the congregation, and perhaps even secretly by her.
*"dead body strapped to the back" is a teaching of JWs that marrying an unbeliever is comparable to the Assyrian torture practice of tying a corpse to the back of a living prisoner, and letting the corpse rot the living person until they died too. This illustration was used quite often at meetings, conventions and in private conversation as I was growing up. I'm sure there are others here who could verify this heinous teaching.
