"To me, leaving the country was the death of something I have yet to identify." Could it have anything to do with the apparent fact that getting a new stepdad and moving to town meant losing your (mother's) horse and killing your dog? gah. poor kid.

Nothing but the Blood - Chapter 2
by daniel-p ini'm posting it in installments.
the final installment will include post-script-type thoughts, with acknowledgements to those who've helped me along these last two years, as well as those who've been an inspiration.
you could tell his heart was in it because he tried so hard.

How many have had a problem with the confession idea to elders?
by Hope4Others ini use to, well i still do think its no better than the confession idea to a priest.. 1. how many elders step down and are removed and what then?.
2. how many people have access to the file cabinet?.
3. my biggest thought is how many that are no longer elders repeat the dirty little secrets?.

1988-1996 Kingdom Ministries- useful to anyone?
by Odrade inwe're in the midst of a massive de-junking project around here.
before these go into recycling, i thought i'd ask if these are still useful, given that so many years of kms have just been digitized?
i have a complete (i think) set from 10/88 thru 12/96, in one of those ridiculous wt storage boxes.

It is just me or was the memorial off by a day?
by FiveShadows ini'm not exactly sure how to calculate the memorial date.
i'm aware that one year back in the 90s, the society actually was off the memorial date by one day.
as i came out of the organization, the brother who left with me was talking to me about it and said 'i remember one year it was off by a day.

14 days after the new moon closest to the spring equinox, when the moon is full over Jerusalem. If you are on the other side of the world from Jerusalem, you might be one day ahead of or behind the full moon, based on the "over Jerusalem" calculation.

Hypocritical makers of "Expelled" movie expel a biologist from theater
by Gopher init's almost too perfect.
myers, a biologist at the university of minnesota - morris, followed all the rules in order to attend a special screening of ben stein's new pro-intelligent design movie "expelled", but was expelled by the insecure makers of this movie!
even more ironic, myers was interviewed for and appeared in this movie.

Bit ridiculous. Not a single fact presented, just a lot of emotionalism. "They don't like us! That means they are hiding something!"
It reminds me quite a bit of the JWs (or other cultish belief systems-) "They persecute and ridicule us, that is proof that they know we are right and don't want to admit it." No, it's really not proof of anything other than that another community finds you worthy of ridicule. How would it be if the other side published papers which made the primary argument as proof: "I.D.ers are laughing at us for believing in pure evolution, that proves we're onto something!"

Have you gained more than lost?
by compound complex ingreetings, my friends:.
the above question is not in regard to one's weight.
that would be a rude question .... in terms of your jw experience, have the losses you've suffered been offset by the good you've gained?.
-

I'm far in the black on that transaction. Sure there were some losses, but the gains are so much greater, I don't regret finding out the truth about the JWs.

"Luke 10: 33 But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. 34 He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn and cared for him."
I must admit, it's creative. Too bad about the broken bones. I agree he must have been quite drunk to sleep until the next day with a badly broken ankle.

aaaacccckkkk!!! Recycle, people! Please! Your waste management can take books for drop-off at the recycling centers, even if you can't do them curbside.
