Got back from my sister's wedding on Monday (long)

i had previously posted about my jw parents making my sister miserable over marrying a catholic...well, the wedding was on the 27th.

my sister and her fiancee (now husband) went out of their way to make my ms stepfather and pioneer mother happy.

he gave up a catholic wedding, they gave up a church wedding, they wrote their own vows and worked it to where the man performing the ceremony didn't do the prayer but my sisters husband did (so that he could pray "through" jesus).

Disgusting. I couldn't have the maid of honor I wanted because we HAD to get married in the hall, and she was on reproof. Typical, typical.

if you were to tell a witness that they were "brainwashed" or that they were "under mind control", they certainly would not rationally accept it.the reason is because witnesses cannot distinguish between mind control and "obeying the faithful and discreet slave".

it is only after a person stops exposing himself to the subtle mind controlling tactics of the watchtower that a person can see how thoroughly duped they are in their beliefs.

how might you be able to tell that you are no longer your own person, able to make your own decisions in your life?

LMAO at the title of this thread. First reaction..."DUH!"

So many examples of mind control. The first that comes to me is when you start having "independent" thoughts. If you speak of them, especially to the wrong person, you are accused of apostacy. If you research your religion using secular sources...apostacy again.

The fact that it's possible in many areas, particularly rural ones, for an individual elder to set the "tone" for the entire congregation.

That good JW grandparents would rather spend time in field service with their toddler grandchildren than take them to the zoo.

comments and confusions on the law by the WT

i am goint to post the link to two articles i have been reading on the watchtower sight.

the first is about tithing and the second is about accepting blood.

at first i was irritated by their condemnation of tithing in other churches, when we all know the truth of their money management and collection.

This doesn't exactly follow your question, but it did make me laugh...

Consider the following. In 1879 the editors of this magazine stated openly that they would "never beg nor petition men for support."

They don't ever say "please give us money" but anytime the hall "needs" remodelling, or new stuff is being built in NY, or convention time rolls around, you get that LOOOONG letter with all the financial issues, followed by a talk on generosity and Christian giving. Tell me again...how is that NOT begging? LOL!

Help, Advice Needed on Not Talking to Parents....

i feel like absolute s*(& after a long conversation with my sister this afternoon.

she's in the org.

and told me that if i won't have a relationship with my parents then she won't have one with me.
