People these days are actively looking for opportunities to be offended to push their beliefs. He is being criticized for responding to a question about his own opinions on sin.

i think two gay guys going at it is gross. I think two good looking women going at it is hot. But that is because I am attracted to women as I am a straight male. It doesn't mean I look down on gay men because of what they do in their bedroom. if someone just took my comment out of context and picked on the first sentence of this paragraph, they could use that to make me look bad.

Today there is a hypocrisy going on. People are shouting for tolerance of their beliefs yet turn and attack those who hold a different belief. I find so much negativity and hate in this world that I am more and more tuning out watching the news or reading articles about people getting all worked up over such issues. All it does is upset me. I'd rather focus on good.

Not sure. I found it interesting that one of the "sisters" who testified against Ray Franz, her husband, Bob Daley was on my judicial committee. I previously had a lot of respect for Bob Daley, until the interrogation. He accused me of watching a pornographic movie. The movie was "A Long Kiss Goodnight". The movie with Samuel L Jackson and Geena Davis. I tried to explain that it wasn't even close to pornography, but he didn't accept it because of the title and that it was R-rated. It didn't matter than he never verified his charge against me.

In Ray's account, Bob Daley and his wife twice had dinner with Peter Gregerson AFTER the org changed their stance on associates with DA'd individuals. Yet "Sister" Daley hypocritically testified that she had seen Ray Franz eating with Peter Gregerson. Needless to say, it opened my eyes up to what kind of people they were on top of my experience with Bob Daley slandering me in the judicial committee meeting.

While I do not agree with the organization's beliefs, I fail to see your point. No one received a blood transfusion from Jesus. Jesus' blood was spilled upon the ground when stabbed by the Roman soldier. Jesus' blood saving mankind is just symbolic, not literal.

was chatting to one of my brainy colleagues at work and telling him a bit about my jw exit etc...... he asked a few questions and then we got onto singing for some reason.

he said that having music, singing or even chanting at religous gatherings makes the brain for "receptive" to suggestions and indoctrination.

my psychiatrist recommended this book, the feeling good handbook by david d. burns, md, to me a couple years ago.

this book has been mentioned on the forum several times before, but i thought i found some things threadworthy in it.

it's a big book of 732 pages.

COMPETITION IN THE CONGREGATION!

there always seemed to be a level of unspoken competition within the congregation.

wether it be between elders, ms, pioneers, etc... who's kids are doing more, who gets more hours out, who comments the most or the best, who gives the best parts, whos kids are the best, who has the better car, who has the better house, who has the better job and so on... it's not openly discussed but you can discern it through conversations, sometimes you can hear undertones of jealousy or meddling in others business, this always bothered me!

if this is gods organization whats with all the jealousy and competiton, i would see other religions or organizatons with less of these issues and question it!.

I agree, I have see the competition within the congregation when I was a member. But in the 17 years I've been out I have been able to reflect with more clear thought. I let my own insecurities about whether I was doing enough or good enough weigh on me. I let these insecurities embed themselves deep inside me. I never felt worthy of relationships or friendships. That everyone around me was better than me. I still struggle with it at times. I don't blame anyone for me being and having been this way. But I struggle with and work on every day the idea that I do not have to measure myself against anyone else. I am who I am and those who truly care about me have respect for me. I am learning that I do not have to impress everyone.

When I was a youth, I was worried about my speech writing abilities, if I am getting too old for not being baptized (I waited until I was 16). I worried if I had a deep enough understanding of the religion, if I was getting enough privileges in the congregation so others wouldn't see me as weak like I had heard in gossip about others. Gossip that included talk about whether or not even "weak" individuals in the congregation were good association.

I cared far too much about what others thought of me.

I have made no accusations against DS211 for being manipulative or deceptive. I have read such ideas in this thread presented to him as course of actions that are however manipulative or deceptive.

I am am encourging him to not fall into that trap. All that does is feed into the claims made by JWs about how apostates act. If he chose such a path and his wife observed it, it would do nothing but prove that the JWs were right about "apostates". That can only serve to further entrench her beliefs.

A path of honesty, love and respect is the right course regardless of whether or not the spouse ends up leaving the org.

I have to question what compels someone to be purposefully deceitful for the purpose of trapping another into making inaccurate statements for the purpose of using those statements against them.

Is this not the hypocrisy that Ray Franz spoke out against in Crisis of Conscience? Is this not the dishonest tactics he said the investigative committees were using against many Bethelites in 1980? Why would anyone mimic such a deceptive practice? It doesn't speak well for one's character.

well thats what my wife said when my grandma stopped by for a visit and invited us to hang out with them christmas eve.

after she left, my wife said i needed to witness to her and remind her that we do nkt celebrate it and that it is the worst holiday to celebrate (actually halloween is lol).

i felt this wasnt the time to argue so i decided to tell her i would look into that.

There is a difference between encouraging independent thought and deliberate scheming as some have suggested. It is far better to set a loving positive example than being deceptive or manipulative. All that would do is feed into what the org says apostates do. Frank open discussions and acceptance of whatever she decides is the mature loving course.

One shouldn't fall into the trap of making true what the org accuses of those who leave due to disagreement of teachings become. Deception and manipulation are exactly what they say will happen.
