here is my take (and i consider myself a pretty logical person able to set aside emotion...i've never been abuse but know people who have been).. the jury was completely right in awarding the judgement to conti.

Probably 25 years ago now, my father was an elder when in the congregation, a late teen Witness molested a young one of about 5. Her and her family attended the congregation.
The victim's family was pushed to keep it quiet and let God's organization handle it. My father ended up making an anonymous call to the police about the details. The police came around to investigate and the molestor killed himself before any arrests were made.
Not a pretty situation at all.

I want to clarify that I firmly believe the GB are false prophets. Just that this particular use of Luke 21:8 will be easily dismissed by a JW. They will claim the GB never says they are Christ.

You can't break up scripture like that to fit your agenda. It is clearly about false Messiahs claiming to be Jesus. The scripture uses AND not OR.

OP, you are ignoring a critical part of the text at Luke 21:8. Jesus is talking about people proclaiming to be Christ.... "I am he", and not to follow those people.

The only way to get around that is some essence or soul that exists even beyond physical death that makes us who we are, not just a collection of facts about what we observed and thought in our life times.
If technology developed to the point that all of our memories could be copied into another body, that would just be a copy or a clone. It wouldn't be us. So logically it seems there is something more there, a soul. Otherwise, no one would ever truly be resurrected. God would be creating a copy of us.
