Dig deep enough and you will find that Jesus'birthday was celebrated,Job's and his children's birthday was celebrated. Also just because the Bible is silent on some things does not mean they are sinful to do.

The new children's book.
by l3gi0n ini was reading through the new kids book released at the assembly, and couldn't help but notice the chapter on birthdays.
it went on to explain that people were beheaded at birthdays, and that god never said to celebrate them.
it then quoted the catholic encyclopedia as stating "only sinners... make great rejoicings over the day on which they were born" .

Experience of new elders meeting format.....
by caspian injust to let you know that the s2 has come back from london with my deletion on it, so i expect it to be announced on thursday, it will be interesting to see how "my brothers and sisters" treat me.
anyway with regards to my experience to the new format of elders meetings.... some of you may be aware of the change to the format announced at the the elders seminar 2002 and in the subsequent letter, regarding the handling of an elder whose child has been involved in serious conduct.. basically the change is that a special elders meeting is held, where the elder is questioned by the body on why he thinks his child got into trouble?
was it his fault?

Hi CASPIAN ! I was deleted before that letter came out.My son was not even living with me,and then he came to live with me,and then I was told that I should throw him out of the house, which I refused to do ,hence my deletion, and his disfellowedshipping.

The Myth of Progressive Revelation.
by Blueblades in.
the idea of progressive revelation is no excuse for "error".what witnesses never face is the enormous corpus of material from russell and rutherford that has never been even close to the truth.. too, these leaders and their current successors advance their teachings in the most dogmatic manner, ready to exercise discipline on those who disagree, and unwilling to recognize that their "truth"might be overturned.. the idea of progressive revelation is no excuse for "extreme doctrinal ambivalence.
"the extent to which the 'faithful and discreet slave',the governing body, has changed positions on what is really true and beneficial is simply astonishing.the list of doctrinal changes and doctrines no longer taught or believed by the 'slave'would fill volumes.. you, could no doubt list a number of the teachings and doctrines that are no longer taught or believed since you first became one of jw's.. from james beverly's crises of allegiance.. blueblades.

What did you think of "Simplification" ???
by Swan ini know now what was behind many of the simplification procedures that were adopted at the assemblies over the years.
the books and food were given away to avoid tax problems.
but what did you think about it when you were a jw?.

Remember the announcement in the Jan.15,2001 WT.It concerned the reorganization in which "certain members of the Governing Body who had been serving as directors and officers voluntarily stepped aside from the boards of directors of all the corporations used by the 'faithful and dicreet slave'in the U.S.A."
I was at that special meeting when that announcement was made back in Oct.2000.
The reason given for this was so that the 'SLAVE' could give undivided attention to the sheep and prepare the spiritual food for them. This was a new form of simplication.
However, what has changed, what has been forthcoming since they now have had their undivided attention toward the sheep spiritually?
It's been four years, nothing have been given the sheep.Rather things have been taking away from the sheep, freedom has been tightened, rules have been changed etc
.How many of the rank and file are even aware that the Governing Body made this commitment at that time back in 2000 as to the reason they were stepping aside

Why so many books and magazines.
by joelbear inokay, there's the bible which is the inspired word of god right?
it is the message from god to manking, only its written in mystery and puzzles so only people with a good heart can understand it, right?
so we need bible aids to explain to people what the bible is saying, because only the faithful and discreet slave really understand what the bible says and so they have to make it understandable.

Proplog2 this not an attack against jw's
.Why does the society tell the rank and file to place in the field asking for a contribution for books that have old light in them?
Why are not these books pulled from the stock?
Why have the rank and file place with householders books that no longer teach current truth?

Is Having Kids Worth It?
by Prisca inok, i'm a single female in her early 30s looking for someone to settle down with.
i'd like to have kids, but the trouble with dating guys who are over 30 is that by now most have a kid and/or have decided they don't want any/more.
so i am getting faced with the dilemma of maybe finding that someone special, but he may not want to have kids.

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts.I'm thinking about all the others who are suffering from all sorts of ailments. Many that I have read about here and that I know of elsewhere.I remember a song where-in the singer expressed his feelings toward the one he loved,"It's only words, but, words are all I have to take your heart away".
Sometimes that's all we can give at the time, the "WORDS" spoken on this forum from all of you have given a calmness to many of us who are suffering in so many different ways. The time and effort it takes to share this comfort is a demonstration of love in action.
Again, if not for this forum, many of us would still be in great despair. It is comforting to know we are not alone and at any time 24/7 we can come to this forum to get and give help.
Love to you all,Blueblades

I'm going to repeat the question asked earlier. Why was there no terrorist's attacking the U.S.A. during the blackout this week.Even if you suspect that the blackout was caused by a terrorist attack, which officials are denying, why didn't the terrorist's do much more damage at this time of vunerablilty? They had about 12 hours to do some more damage during this blackout.
I don't have the answer to the question, who knows what is going on in their mind as to the timing of their terrorist acts.I'm glad that there was no terrorist acts at this time.

what is the # 1 reason people join the JW's ??? what attracts people ???
by run dont walk inbeing brought up in the borg, i always envied my friends that did not have to go in service, go to meetings, and waste their weekends away, i have never really been able to understand why someone would join the jw's unless they were born (forced) into it.
aside from maybe coming from an abusive lifestyle or relationship, or had serious drug/alcohol problems, this i could understand how the religion helped them get back on track.
so why do people join ???
-
Blueblades
As already stated, there are a number of reasons why people join JW'S.But,if pressed for the # 1 reason which is your question I would think it is "THE CARROT".
The carrot is ,as repeated by the WT. "Everlasting Life" "Eternal Life " "Live Forever "YOU will NEVER DIE in this system of things!
Every article, talk, meeting and etc.ends with it happening SOOOONNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So,who want to grow old ,get sick and die,no one does. After all the double talk which many don't see through,we all see the "CARROT"and reach out for it ,because that's what we want.
This I think is the # 1 reason combined with all the other reasons given.
