recently i asked that question on another thread and didn't really get ananswer.

cofty made an excellent point that we often hear what it isn't, but that really isn't useful.. so, what is it?

-Spirit is a metaphor

- Angels and demons are not spirit

- Angels and demons ARE spirit (no answer as to what spirit is)

- It is breath (meaning plants and paramecium also have spirit)

- It's the holy ghost (with no answer as to what spirit is)

- It's the non-physical part of people (no answer as to what spirit is)

- It's how you hear God (no answer as to what spirit is)

- It connects to our consciousness to form reality (no explanation of what spirit is or how that works)

- It connects us to higher dimensions (no explanation of what that is or how that works)

- It's the lifeforce or spark of life (no explanation of what that is or how that works)

- Alcohol

- Undetectable non-physical God-stuff

It seems this thread is winding down. I will make a comment on the last one. If God and and angels exist and interact with the world, it seems it should be detectable somehow. I mean, it IS interacting with somethin physical, so it some how much be detectable.

As it stands, we still have no idea what spirit is comprised of.

Viv and Jon - you can't know what spirit is made of, because it isn't made of anything we could understand or comprehend as humans.

If we cannot understand it, interact with or detect it, how is that not effectually nothing?

Comatose's answer is that spirit is everything or nothing, Kate's new answer is that it is oxygen and carbon.

Neither answer gets us any closer to figuring out what angels, demons, gods or life-force is made of.

An asteroid is coming in 2036

a friend of mine who is a astronomer told me a asteroid will hit the earth near ca in 2036. it will make a close pass by earth in 2029 and if it goes through a certain point he called a donut hole it will come back and get us in 2036. i asked him if it is big enough to cause problems?

he laugh and said it is extinction asteroid.

he went on to say the russians are already working on a plan to destroy it before in makes it here or try and change the course of it.

Trying to understand JW behaviour?

i know a girl who left the jws about 10 years ago, she was not disfellowshipped and this caused a bit of consternation in my jw community as other people who felt forced to shun their family thought it unfair.

some of the elders reacted to this by attempting to arrange a jc, but the girl's father, also an elder, got very angry and put a stop to it.

he has a fiery temper and the elders felt it best not to push him.. meanwhile this girl's family have always treated her as if she's never left, she moved to london and the family visits her on holiday weekends, her brothers would make us other jws visit her socially when we went to london for holidays, i was fine with this, never complained as i thought she was great fun.. a few years ago however, she got married to a nonjw, the family were excited and ready for the wedding but the other jealous jws complained to the co and he banned this family from the wedding, telling the father he would be removed as an elder and the sons as mss if any attended.

The CO did not back down, they did not go to the wedding. They apologised to the poor girl, and put the blame solely on the cruel CO.

It's quite a bit of weasel behavior, to blame the CO when they made te choice to give in to his demans.

If you are getting the simple point of "don't make stuff up about me" then I can't help you. Repeated for emphasis, don't make stuff up about me.

So, moving on since we are done with that discussion, does anyone know what spirit of any type is comprised of, the stuff angels, demons, god or life-force?

My Child Has Asked Me to Divorce Husband

i guess i am just venting.

its a mess.

i just dont even know where to start with this crap.

To add on to what Snare wrote, I got DFed and divorced about 5 years ago. When it first happened, my kids were super upset about me dying at Armageddon and not living forever with them. Over the years, I have taught them critical thinking and given them their childhood back.

I don't tell them what to beleive and I have told them they don't have to agree with me, just that they need good reasons and to be able to explain what they do believe. I can tell you that now they are glad to have their childhood back, what's left of it anyway. They have gone trick or treating, done Christmas 2 years now, birthdays, etc. It was very tough the first year, but it was worth it.

See Kate, you didn't seem to like it when people make ignorant assertions about you, when people pretend to know something and post it as true when they can't possibly know what they are talking about.

Obviously none of that is anything I know, I made it all up. The point was entirely to show you what your behavior feels like to me. You are posting as true things you cannot possibly know and you are getting them wrong. The bit about your factulties was no different that what you wrote when you said to Cofty that finally there was someone intelligent to debate with, implying others weren't. It was an insult. Clearly you don't like it when people treat YOU this way, so you should not treat others that way.

Do you get it now?

Actually, Kate, I apologize. I shouldn't have said STFU. That was rude of me. I should have known your years of being a JW, the depression and rejection resulting from getting DF'ed and the alcholism would have left you a shell of a broken person unable to handle adult conversation. I'll strive in the future to remember all of that and treat you more gently and appropriately to your faculties.
