Advocate, That is so Bull Sh!t. Dubs are just as much followers of the rest of the world. When CT was in command, they wore beards. When the "good judge" was in command, they dressed the way he wanted. Today, the Dubs dress like the Elders, who dress like the CO. Just because you had an ear ring. Big deal. Con

not that there is anything wrong with a jc penny's suit.
it's just that this was the "status quo" kind.

Frank and Kwin,
I guess mostly, me and the ex-JW girlfriend didn't have too much in common.
There was a definite sexual attraction there and more of a "she's a good person type thing."
One thing that started bothering me is the using of the politically correct speech.
Mostly like the things like saying "God Bless You" after a person sneezes and stuff like that.
But as far as conversation wise... Now that I look back, it's nothing like me and my current girlfriend.
I would say, that "worldly" (and I hate that word). But "worldly" relationships are just so much more deeper in General.
Mostly because one person doesn't have to worry about how the other will feel if you don't tow the "WT Party Line." -

I did keep two suits. One which my mother (not a dub) bought for me. And another of nice material.
Haven't wore either one of them. Lost weight and don't think they would fit anyway.
But the JC Penny's one HAD to go.
I also threw out most of my ties except a few that were nice.
I did have a friend, a JW who commited suicide (thanks for the help elders) and his wife gave me his tie as a gift. -

Goodness Kwin,
We weren't allowed to wear plaid.
A brother once wore a courdoroy (spelling) suit and was looked at with crossed eyes. -

Dating a JW info
by Lady Lee inother than telling a person to run:what do you think a person (who knows nothing about the jws) needs to know if they are getting involved with a jw.what would be helpful to them to end things before they get further involved?what will help them if they decide to go further and marry this jw?what challenges would a non-jw woman have if she gets involved with the jw man?what about having children and the struggles that will develop from that?.
if you think of anything else that would be halpful please add it to the thread.
i would like to have a lot of this info in one thread besides some of the great "dating a jw" threads we already have in the best of section.

Just under a year ago, I started this thread...

It was entitled, "Worldly Girlfriend or JW Girlfriend - Help Me Choose."
In a nutshell, I was dating a "worldly" girl at the time. I was doing the fade.
Then an opportunity came about to date an active JW girl.
That was about ONE YEAR AGO.
After reading Lady Lee's post about JW Dating, I decided to give an update...
First of all, I did leave my "worldly" girlfriend. (and by the way, I find that term worldly offensive)
I started to date this JW girlfriend.
Pretty much it was a disaster...
Let me explain.
I knew this girl when I was a MS and a Pioneer. She's a very sweet girl.
She knew about my problems with the elders and the stuff.
She was really receptive to my point of view.
She was also very respectful AT FIRST to me not going to meetings and all that.
Really, her attitude did make me want to go to the meetings again. And I did so lightly.
We were really good together. Great friend, etc.
But the closer we got to being engaged, the more she started pressuring me to comform back to dub ways.
One issue was my hair.
I wear it long and I like it that way.
She wanted me to cut it.
The other thing, was she would pressure me about going to meetings and stuff.
Quite frankly, I wouldn't mind being married to HER.
But it would have to be a "I respect YOU and your views. You respect MINE and my views" type relationship.
The closer we got to engagement, the more she pressured me.
Not only that, we kept it a secret from the congregation all this time.
I'm not DA or DF, but I'm not going to meetings. And it's pretty clear that I'm not comforming to their ways.
Mostly because, as Paul said (I think it was Paul) - "As for me. I cannot stop speaking about the things saw and heard."
Sorry. When I thought the "truth" was the truth. I shouted it out from rooftops as a Pioneer.
When I find out the truth about the "truth." I will also shout it out from the rooftops.
Anyway, it was a big dissapointment.
I got to the point where I had her diamond ring picked out and sent to the jewler.
It was a 2 carat heart shapped diamond ring and I had it designed and everything.
Less than a week after I ordered it, I just broke off the whole relationship.
I fully respect EVERYTHING she is doing in "the truth."
I feel she has a pure heart and serving with a pure heart.
But to question my faith and what I KNOW NOW??? Was too much.
I told her that for me to go back to the Hall and play their games - you would think LESS of a man of me in the long run.
It would be no different than me "Playing the Mormon" game if she was a Mormon and I knew 100 percent in my heart that their way is not the correct way.
Sure, it would make things pretty on the outside. But what kind of person can't even be true about what he knows and FEELS is right about worship of God???
Anyway, it was a major dissapointment in my life. Because the relationship DESERVED more than that.
Well, since then, I've found someone new.
She has NO TIES to the WT.
She is incredibly pretty.
She has incredible qualities. She's serious when she needs to be and fun.
Most of all, I can be myself with her.

Kind of a milestone of sorts.
Not that there is anything wrong with a JC Penny's suit.
It's just that this was the "status quo" kind. (All guy dubs will know EXACTLY what I mean by it.)
The last couple of times I've went to the meetings, I stopped wearing them anyway.
In fact, I stopped wearing a tie.
Not so much out of disrespect, but I found that there are a lot of ways to look formal and respectful without wearing one.
As I look back, to me it's just amazing how you were totally judged by your outward appearance.
You could tell exactly how "strong or weak" you were in "the truth," based upon how well you fit into the mold.
I guess I'm not surprised.
I remember my first counsel on fitting "into the mold."
It was in the 80's, and part of the fashion then was wearing shoes with no socks.
Not that I was enslaved to fashion at the time, but we lived in a coastal region and socks were optional all the time anyway.
I guess it's just funny how you exchange one fashion trend, just to be enslaved to another fashion trend - their's.
And I can't really remember all my thoughts back then. But I believe it was to the affect of - WTF???
"I mean, here I am changing my life over - and the most important thing is how I dress???"
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant a little tonight.
I feel a lot better.
