by Mary inyesterday, i went out for lunch with my parents when my mother made mention of something she had read in the newspaper about some new discovery of species that went extinct millions of years ago.
she asked my father what method is used to determine the age of something, because of course, this flies directly in face of the biblical account of life on this planet being only a few thousand years old.. anyway, my father related a story that some brother he ran into recently at the assembly told him.
this [unnamed] brother related a story told to him by another [unnamed] elder who knew an [unnamed] circuit serpent who was "really chummy with one of the [unnamed] executives at the royal ontario museum".

by ex-Special Pioneer infor decades fred franz was the guru of the watchtower bible & tract society.
he was obsessed with "biblical prophecy" trying to explain the book of daniel and revelation.
who took over after he stopped writing and who is considered the authority on the jws teaching today especially the so called "prophetic interpretation?

Here’s my view…
I don’t think you’ll see the likes of old Judge Rubberfart or Freddy F . again. They were the product of a bygone era, like carnival barkers. They are fast becoming caricatures that young people can’t identify with.
With the passing of time both have proved to be an embarrassment to the WT. Their crazy failed predictions, types, anti-types etc., have been quietly set aside.
Almost forgotten.
For the WT to prosper and grow I believe another “leader” will emerge from within the GB. He will have it’s full backing, becoming, I think, the first among equals.
People just don’t respond well to following committees.
Be on the watch for a younger (50ish) charismatic, well educated and articulate individual.
Rather than preaching a wacky agenda or riling people with fiery denunciations, this new guy will be smooth and well oiled. He’ll be slick and engaging.
However, beneath the polished, reassuring words of comfort and hope the core message will remain…
Follow us/me into paradise. Surrender your life or die.

by Had To Go indo you vacillate between caring that he/she is still entrapped in this cult and wanting to show them everything you have learned since your awakening and not wanting to rock the boat and therefore just keeping all this knowledge to yourself?
i wonder if it is normal to go back and forth like i do.
one day i want to tell my husband something i may have read here or on another forum and maybe, just maybe i will pique his interest.

You can keep asking the questions and sowing the seeds of doubt. You can be as patient as you possibly can. But as long as he is staunchly in and you are adamantly out you will never, ever get back to anything like the fairytale.
There are no happy endings between believers and non-believers in Watchtower Land.
Between you is an iron curtain, barbed wire and the organizational dogs.

3/15 WT " Do Not Deceive Yourself "- WT's Excuses for No Armageddon
by flipper inwith the new " overlap generation " theory that the wt society is pushing onto rank and file jehovah's witnesses since last year this article i found really heavy hitting in the jw version of the wt.
the wt society is leaking oil in that confidence is low among jw's in not really buying into the " generation overlap " theory as many younger jw's are exiting the organization.
so what better way to try reeling members back in by giving them an article entitled " do not deceive yourself with false reasoning " !

I always picture the situation this way…
You’re on the street corner, it’s very late, dark, damp and cold, bone chilling. You’re waiting for the “Last Bus”.
You were told it would be here any minute but it’s been so very, very long, and there’s still not a bus in sight.
Sure from time to time between the scuds of rain and the lazy bitter wind that can’t be bothered to go around you but instead goes straight through you, you see headlights off in the distance and you think…maybe…this time…but no.
Disappointed again.
You now face a choice. Do you keep waiting and hoping, or do you set off walking? Do you trust the words of others, or do you say enough is enough and set off walking for home and the warm fire that’s waiting for you?
Fear tells you that if you start walking the bus will come and you’ll not get on board. You’ll lose. After all you’ve waited all this time and you’ve put up with such rotten conditions…
What to do.....?
My JW family are still waiting for the last bus to a better life.
I decided to set out walking, making my own way, ignoring the empty WT promises.
I have a better life.
They wait.
They now are coming to the realization that the life they hoped for will only come after they are dead. Now they pin their hopes on the resurrection.
Sad, very sad.
Kinda like telling someone on that cold, dark, dank street corner to go to sleep, with the promise that when the bus finally shows up they’ll be roused from their slumber.
As I said, I walked. I’m glad I did. No regrets. I’ll never look back.
To all you JWs…It’s been over 100 years now. 100 years and still NOTHING.
I know you’re going to say it means we’re just that much closer, heck, I said the same thing once upon a time…
But really it means the WT IS WRONG. THEY DON’T DESERVE YOUR TRUST.
THINK FOR YOURSELF.

Considered rebellious because I choose to think for myself

but i was one of those kids that was born into the whole jw thing, and like a good little witness kid i did everything i was supposed to do to please my parents (mainly my mom my dad's an unbeliever).
my mom was very strict with me when it came to everything they taught, no holiday parttys at school, no sports, no worldy friends, i was only supposed to associate with other jw kids (my mom is one of those extremist jws, she says she doesn't judge, but she's a perfect example of one one of those sisters with the holier than thou attitude).

What does a demon or an evil spirit look like?

who needs demons to do bad things on the earth when we have people doing horrible things to each other since the beginning of time.
demons are just an easy way to pass of the blame...pretty easy to do since no one has ever seen one.. its like telling people there are evil invisible tooth faries lurking around every corner.

then they....
Vomit down your throat - (Fill you with their crappola)
after which you are expected to say "Thank you, please give me MORE!"
Listen, I've been in and now I'm out. When your in you think the world is evil.
When you're out you see the Organization, (not people like you mom and dad) is the evil one.
I wish I could slap them all, not to cause pain but rather to wake them from the trance they've been seduced into.
The sweet , sticky, sickly words have oozed into their brains and gummed up their reasoning senses and nothing I say seems to mean anything anymore.
They see my lips move but they don't hear my voice.

Challenges Facing the Watchtower Org
by eric356 inive been thinking about the future of the watchtower organization and the challenges it faces in coming decades.
its difficult to address the issue without allowing personal feelings affect the analysis.
many people seem to think that the society will collapse fairly soon, based mostly on the fact that the person dislikes the leadership or cant understand how others can believe the doctrine.

The charismatic leader that I describe in my imaginary scenario is a man who has been appointed a member of the governing body. He rises from within it. The longer he's part of the elite the more he sees its failings. Gradually through his maneuverings, intelect, and sheer force of will he becomes the dominant player WITHIN THE GOVERNING BODY. He views his appointment by holy spirit as a mandate to refine and reform the brotherhood.
HE is savy enough to work within the organizations boundries. In other words he won't get removed for his increasing role and influence, he plays within the rules and gradually changes those rules to suit his agenda. Other members on the GB count it a blessing to have someone of his caliber at the helm. As time goes by and under his influence new appointees to the GB are aligned with him.
This alpha leader is made of similar suff as old Joe Rutherford. Look how he (the judge) took over and molded the JWs to his will.
As to the multi media presentations...well, the presentations today on a local and assembly level don't seem to work very well. Infact they are often boring, mind numbing trials that can be a real test of endurance. Not very motivational. I remember when, years ago we first had dramas, they were a real highlight of the convention. By the time I left, many (including me) were making fun and laughing at the ludicrous amateur dramatics complete with false beards and flailing arms.
The photo-drama of creation was cutting edge in it's day and just because the old suits rip on other churches doesn't mean change won't come. It has to.
Other things I can imagine...tithing, and if the society puts up web sites for study and teaching etc. the dubs will have to pay a yearly subscription fee for it. The donation arrangement has been, in my opinion a flop.
These are just some fun thoughts that I have. As far as I'm conrerned, and, as the Black Adder would say...They can all go and Roger themselves!
