LOL... my comment was sort of to show the fun her and I have sometimes. She is not your typical hard line JW but at the same time she has a hard time acknowledging this is a cult. As soon as we got to the paragraph of immoral thoughts and the potential danger, we started texting each other (mind you we are seating next to each other) and we did it all that same night. Ok, I admit it, we did some of it in the morning before the meeting.

So as usually unavoidable, I was seating at the WT meeting this Sunday. We've got there about 15 min late. I don't know the title of the talk but when we got there, brother elder was talking about experiences of families that have simplified their life to support these old men, I mean, to serve the kingdom more. Funny, one of the experiences was a couple that had been pioneers for 30 years and had a lavish lifestyle. After one assembly they decided, allegedly on their drive back home in their luxury car, that they had been living a greedy life not worthy of a christian. My question is why did it take them 30 years to realize (if it is so right) that they were "greedy".
Anyway, the comment to highlight was the elders examples of ways in which we can serve the kingdom more. One, off course, has to do with helping out in construction. Almost in a back to back manner he first mentioned how all these material things we have will not survive the big A but apparently the WT properties will. This is not me being sarcastic, he actually alleged to it. After explaining that nothing material that we have will be gone because "everything will be made new", he went on to explain how much construction work is needed and how we can help. He brought up Walkill and he claims to have participated in meeting regarding this project (I am assuming he actually referred to the meeting for elders about the new KH designs) and he quoted whomever was conducting this meeting as saying "this is the HQ building for the millennium" (referring to the thousands year reign of Christ) and the elder now added (and I quote him), "so this is the one place where everything will come from, all the instruction and direction for the whole world".
What got me the most was the closing statements, as usual referring as to how great of an organization this is, he remarked how "great and awesome our judicial system is and how awesome our educational system is".
I take it this guy has no clue of what is going on
I did not pay much attention to the mag study. My wife and I were exchanging message about the immoral thoughts we had for one another. I am not kidding you, she is technically still as much in as she used to be, but I guess the study was a bit boring.

2015 Regional Convention (Cleveland, Ohio) - No accounts report read? No video about abuse?
by My Name is of No Consequence ini went to the convention this past weekend in cleveland with my wife and son.
most of the session was the status quo, but here are some of observations that i believe are worth noting: .
1. i did not see a lot of jw.org advertisements and the website was not mentioned a whole lot during the session.

Sorry to disagree. Here in South Texas use to have account reports read at ALL assemblies until a few years ago. In fact, I seem to recall the reports became an issue as soon as we finished building the AH. After the first assembly hosted at the AH, we all became aware of how much more expensive the assemblies were, compared to what it used to cost when renting auditoriums. We even had an elder during one of the public talks, point out that there were complaints circulating regarding this. He did not deny that for sure we were paying more, but he pointed out how much more comfortable we had it and the fact that we no longer had to be dragging swimming pools for baptisms and etc. -

Try and build a support network around you, especially after you start driving around. Do please make sure you don't start hanging out with the wrong crowd. If you get hit by life, it will do nothing but to prove your JW side right and you will be right back at the cult. Make friends that somewhat resemble that "worldly" person you would have liked to be. If you want a career, try to make friends with those that get good grades, if you want to be a social butterfly, hang out with those that have that tendency. At the same time, do not concentrate in just one group, diversify but emphasize. -

Sumerian history
by StarTrekAngel incan anyone recommend a good, updated book or documentary on the sumerian civilization?.
thanks in advance.
-
StarTrekAngel
Well, I am not sure Magnum. In JW land there's always been the idea that ancient civilization that had similar believes as the Jews had twisted understanding of the same teachings as the Jews, rather than being the initial proponents of the belief. I've learned before about stories like the Epic of Gilgamish but I've never read credible sources. I am more in a learning path at the moment. I am not at a point where I even have enough brain power to begin questioning more abstract things (like the existence of God).
Any read, wether on Sumerians or simply ancient and early civilizations is good.

Geoffrey Jackson: "That would be presumptuous of us"...
by Calebs Airplane inwithin the first few minutes, mr. stewart asked geoffrey jackson if the members of the governing body consider themselves to be god's spokesperson on earth.. his response: "that would be presumptuous of us" (implying that they don't consider themselves to be god's sole channel of communication).. to me, that was the worst lie of about 26 lies he's told during this hearing.
however, mr. stewart missed an opportunity to call out mr. jackson on this bold-faced lie.
he should have asked him to explain why the watchtower magazine teaches otherwise.

Mikeinkona brings an excellent point. This is a common theme on the few JC that are recorded online. Just like it happened to Jesus, there is always that moment when they realize they are being cornered and they have no case. They turn around and the demand you answer that one question. Do you believe the GB is the FDS -

Did you hear Stewart use the bible to prove an incredibly good point to Jackson!!
by umbertoecho ini thought at the end, stewart made brilliant use of scripture (about establishing fornication or other sexually immoral practises) how, in such a clever way stewart used scripture to point out that some one could basically stake out someone's house to see if a person stayed over night be they homosexual or heterosexual............that on the basis of a sort of stakeout, the two witness rule was ambivalent yet it prevailed.
due to sufficient suspicion.. and therefore why did this "suspicion" not prevail with child sexual abuse.

The part I've love the most was when Jackson tried to point the bible page number to Stewart and Stewart went "I've already have it!" -

The Royal Commission and Watchtower - A game changer
by Hidden-Window ini had finished watching all the videos on the royal commission's investigation of jehovah's witnesses (yes, i know more videos are being released).
i am still processing the information of everything that has emerged.
i do not plan to cover it all here, but i would like to point out that it is patently obvious that some of the wt representatives provided misleading information.

I believe a change in this aspect is possible, even from the WT perspective of things. I can already imagine the tears running down the women's faces when they announce "their new light on the matter". The same happened when the new school was open which included women. The problem here is that all they are going to change is semantics. The header ship of the man is not going to change. It will be all smoke curtains again. Fifty years from now we will be having another hearing, this time women will be testifying that the concluded the perpetrator was guilty, but the elders overruled her. -

Mr Jackson said we would notice if the GB said things outwith the scriptures????
by notsurewheretogo inin the rc yesterday mr jackson said that if wrong direction was given by the gb, the rank and file would notice it.
.
i see plenty of things that the gb say that is not in scriptures but if i say the gb are wrong i'm df....

He said that no witness is expected to follow their direction if is not in harmony with the scriptures. He later on remarked that they provide the current interpretation of scripture. Circular reasoning at its best.
