I met with my friend at lunch today. We had a really good and long conversation. Once again, we are happy we are not alone and he also told me of others in this area. We can now have our own little apostafest. LOL

Can baptism be considered a legal verbal agreement?
by StarTrekAngel inbased on the requirements set forth and the questions answered at the end.
i believe this question has been asked before.
the fact that you can only be expelled after having been put under this oath of allegiance and that you have witnesses to you making this agreement ( i remember my name was shout to the crowd when i entered the pool ).. if it can be considered so, would there be a legal ground to say minors can not enter this agreement?.

And so I thought that would be the case. Sure you they can say the eventually the minor becomes an adult and continues to uphold the agreement. But is there a precedence to, for example, signing a mortgage when you are 7 years old and only become legally bound to it at adulthood, provided that while your parents continue to make payments on your behalf you pick up on it and uphold the agreement as soon as you become 18?
Don't think so... so idealistically speaking, there should be a way to say a minor can not be baptized.

At least in the US, the Courts are not about to get caught up in the middle of a religious dispute that only affects those who are in the religion. Especially a religion that involves only 1 million NON-voters.
DocTrue... but it helps to be aware of what weight, if so only personal, your agreement could have. Under a more fair world this would have greater significance.

Hmm... certainly that is what they publish. Asking an honest question though... Would you really say that all JWs view worldly people they way they do solely and only because the WT says so or is there a component of their own experience with the world that may be re affirmed by WT rhetoric? What if that component was removed and the only thing they are left with is WT ideology?
I have a hard time accepting that, while the ideology you present is surely well documented, 100% of Muslims who are today engaged on what they perceive as holy war, would fight as hard as they do today if conditions for them would change. I am sure there are many nut jobs that would endure until their own end but I still believe that such are the minority.

How to argue with a JW who says the org never said the end in 75
by dogon ini have argued with several jws who are now being trained to deny the org ever said the end in 75, what is your approach?.

Well, they can try and beat around the bush. They start sounding like politicians when they do that. Most politicians nowadays know exactly what toe nails taste like. Then they send their "spokeperson" to clarify what they meant.
I would say the most damming piece of publication, which leaves little to interpretation is where they clarify they do not know the exact date and time but they also flaunt that they could not be mistaken by more than a couple of weeks. Also the part where they well say that going to college will be useless, since the end will be here before you graduate.
1 Corinthians 14:9 comes to mind every time I hear a WT argument that requires more than two questions to make it clear.

"Belief" and "Faith" are Simply Emotional Terms for Ideas and Opinions (long post)
by xjwsrock inthis is my current bottom-line conclusion after starting to see through the jw game 3 to 4 years ago and going through my own process of waking up.
it helps to write it down and put it "out there".
i hope it helps or resonates with you in your own personal process.. basically if i were given 10 seconds to say something to an active jehovah's witness that i cared about it would be the headline above.

I agree with the OP. Unfortunately, even this truth has been exploited. Faith has been redefined and so happens to align with opinion. The faith I read about in the bible is not blind. Those who claim to live by faith and not by sight, should reconsider putting that biblical reference in full context before they do hit a lamp post. Please realize that I am not arguing belief. If you choose to believe in Santa, that is ok. I am just saying that the entire religious body of the world has realized that promoting this idea of "faith" is the most efficient tool that they have and redefining it by guilt tripping people into accepting things without proof is the holy grail of manipulation.
If you are a believer, please read your bible entirely, slowly and consciously. I bet you will realize that not one character in the bible ever expressed blind faith without the burden of proof. There was always a reference for them to have a starting point. Weak or strong, but there was something more than guilt driven blind faith imposed by a third party who claim to have the truth. Those few examples where someone did follow blindly have ended badly.
