i hadn't seen her in a while, so it was nice to hear her voice.

Interesting.. I guess we would have to see if other COs have a similar message. Our visit is coming up soon. I'll keep an eye out. -

The hypocrisy Jesus had towards the pharisees and sadducees
by adjusted knowledge init is no wonder the jewish leaders had ridiculous rules concerning the sabbath.
the following scripture alone should instill fear of those forsaking the sabbath.. (numbers 15:32-36)--"now while the sons of israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the sabbath day.
33and those who found him gathering wood brought him to moses and aaron, and to all the congregation; 34and they put him in custody because it had not been declared what should be done to him.

Not necessarily. While there are some that question the authenticity of the bible or the motives of God, your would have to bring more evidence to the table. Jesus never denied the Sabbath should be observed, but rather pointed out the very same things that are pointed out about the blood issue. Jesus himself explained that the Sabbath came to be because of men and not men because of the Sabbath. So you would have to show that the man was willingly ignoring the rule without a need for it. If he was freezing to death and needed the wood to warm himself and his house, then he would have been right to go get the wood.
Jesus pointed out how David violated the law when he was hungry and ate bread that he was not allowed to eat and yet did not die. Read the context of what Jesus said and should be self explanatory

Book study next week... was the Mosaic Law perfect?
by StarTrekAngel inbefore i get the "no it was not, because god does not exist and this is a writing of man", i am directing this discussion to those that either still believe, or need as many tools as possible to talk to a family member still in.. the purpose of my posting is to discuss what i believe to be a mistake on this book or, in the other hand, be corrected if i am not getting the entire picture.. in the book, chapter 19 "god's wisdon in a sacred secret", paragraph 10, it reads.... 10 second, the law thoroughly demonstrated mankinds need for a ransom.
a perfect law, it exposed the inability of sinful humans to adhere to it fully.
compare this with hebrews 7:11-12. jesus a priest like melchizedek11now if perfection was through the levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of aaron?

Jesus a Priest Like Melchizedek
11Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron? 12For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also.…Hebrews 7:18-19
18For, on the one hand, there is a setting aside of a former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness 19(for the Law made nothing perfect), and on the other hand there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.…
Hebrews 8:7
For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second.
Need to remark that the word "faultless", while fits my point as compared to "perfect", is actually translated literally as "perfect" in the spanish version of the NWT
Your thoughts, comments or corrections are appreciated.
Thanks

One brother claimed he was approached by the perpetrator as soon as he closed on the sale of a house or apartment and talked him into investing the $50,000 he had gotten from it. -

There is another article on a different newspaper (el pais, which a recognized and respectable outlet) with a case that sounds too much like this one but with different numbers.
In this case it was one elder, who talked a bunch of other elders into an investment with huge returns. In this case they are talking of about 70 million euros, which is close to the 80 million the other case claims was kept in Swiss banks. In this case the money was also transfered to a swiss bank but they were actually paying back interest to the investors (about 2500 individual brothers invested) until the money flow stopped. One brother claims the instigator was traveling around congos looking for wealthy people. Some investors got money together with their family in upwards of 49,000 euros. Some of the numbers, regarding the number of elders and the sentence to those who got caught, match the case mentioned in this thread. Also, the fact that they only caught the secondary criminal but the mastermind is on the run (just like the first article on this thread)

This other one claims the mastermind was a witness but only 700 out of more than 2000 investors were witnesses

In any case all these articles are no more than 2 months old. I guess we will hear more.

I am on the same boat as you all but lets not make assumptions
Who said that all the donations had to come from Spain alone?
Who said that a handful of rich JW did not see this as a tax shelter? We can't take an average literally. It is just that, an average.
The actual news article says this started in 2001. The news article is also dated Jan 22. If we take the years into account when calculating the average, then you are now about 10,000 euros per year, per publisher. Still a high number, but much lower than previously estimated. Like I said, it is just an average.

I have not seen a bloodless hospital but I have heard mention of something like it. I also heard, from a JW relative, that someone started a private school for witnesses, where evolution and other worldly sciences are not considered in the curriculum and where preparing kids for the meeting is part of the daily activities.
In either case, I would not doubt that the average witness would not hesitate to put up money for "such noble cause", real or not.
What is yet more exciting is, if the news gets confirmed and spread, what would be the WTBTS reaction. I would not put it past them that they would see how much of that money could have been theirs if some "sense" was talked into the brothers. That is, do not believe in this "bloodless hospitals", if you want to help, send us the money.

Fourteen elders can easily come from on KH that hosts more than one large cong, but 1300 donors can not come from one place. I am assuming that people from their hall got talked into it and they talked their relatives and friends into it. -
