Mobile Hotspot - JWFACTS.COM - Assembly & Conventions
by thedepressedsoul inhere is an idea i tested.
works at both assemblies and conventions.
i have noticed at the last convention and at my last assembly that when i opened up my wifi setting, tons of hotspots came up for people tethering their tablets to their smart phones.

Viviane,
Sure, if you want to use that part. I believe though that towards the end things were being discussed to address that particular concern. Somehow such clarification is not relevant to you and prefer to attack a particular part of the thread or assume you know my intentions.
Before this discussion is destroyed by us going completely out of topic, lets clarify something and move on, please?
Let me make it clear to you that it was never my intention to hijack anything. Let me make it clear again that redirecting someone to a web based content with a DNS server of your own local network (without sharing the public internet) is not DNS hijacking. Call it captive portal if you want.

Here you go. Clarification is towards the end of the thread.

I was just thinking... may be stuffing a wifi AP into a lunch box won't just serve to give access to the curious. May be if enough of those showed up they would implement mandatory lunch box inspections at assemblies. Nice way to cause some disruptions and create mistrust. Divide and conquer.
Just a thought.

Viviane,
The idea I proposed before did not involve sharing the open internet. It was about setting up your own web/DNS server on the same piratebox. I don't believe that qualifies as DNS hijacking when you create your own private network with no outside access.

Having over 12 years of experience on wireless networks, both short and long haul, I can tell you that shooting the signal from the parking lot won't be an easy feat and even if you achieve something, it won't be worth the effort. Regardless of how directional the antenna can be, the frequencies in use for WIFI signals hardly ever transverse walls and survive to tell the tale. Yes, some of it would make it thru, but you would loose so much of it that it would hardly have any effect. You would need an antenna that is far more noticeable than you would like. At best, you can try to buy a high power amplifier (worth hundred if not thousands of dollars) but then I would not advise you seat close to it for too long.
Harder than getting your signal thru the wall is getting the return signal from the devices. In order to save power and make your battery last longer, many device manufacturers limit the transmit power of their built in wifi chips.
I think another possibility would be to stuff the Piratebox with a high gain antenna or a moderate amp in a lunch cooler. Leave it under a chair and walk away. Come pick it up later, or if you can afford it, leave it behind for them to ponder about the satanic plots behind such contraption. Put some scary stickers on it.

need input: why does my wife do this. when at the meeting she is always nodding her head in agreement
by goingthruthemotions inso this is just so nauseating to me when she noddes her head in agreement and in a low voice or sound does a "mmm uh" in agrrement.
but here is the deal, she never aswers at the meetings.
she doesn't go out in service often.

My wife does the same thing. It annoyed me at first but I payed closer attention and realized she only nodded at the things that actually matter. Regardless of our differences, I would not get annoyed if she does it when someone says "God is love". I realized she was agreeing with the statement, not with is misuse to manipulate people. Off course she does not see it any other way but at least she is not nodding in agreement when they talk about 1914. In fact, she has admitted before the she does not understand it. -

How bad do the JWs need to be doing financially
by cognac inbefore they just go ahead and file chapter 7 or 11?

I don't think that is entirely that impossible. I think that filling for bankruptcy would be a very bad move for them. Any move that seem voluntary and initiated from within would be harder to justify in front of the R&F. Not that they won't be able to justify successfully, I say its just harder when there are other options. Everyone donating $1 a month. I find that hard to achieve. Not everyone in the world can afford to donate a dollar a month, much less for the foreseeable future. There is only about 1 million JWs in the US. With that said, they probably would not take all of that money in and put it directly into cashflow. Most likely invested in some form of another, which means they would have to wait on the return to start coming in
Assuming all of the above is accurate to some degree, a re definition, re organization, re branding will be most likely and much more acceptable to the majority of the members.
If they haven't figured it out by now, asking everyone to pay a "membership fee" in order to get baptized could be much more easily swallowed than tithing or anything that pushes compulsory donations down and directly to the members. Provided that they crunch the numbers, it could almost work as a group insurance, where we all pay a fee, just in case one of the members slips and rapes a child.

WiFi problems? Want a faster network? Try Powerline Adapters!
by Simon inwifi is great.
it's so easy and convenient.
but it can be slow.. years ago when it first came out you maybe had a pc and a couple of other devices at most.

Powerline ethernet has been around for a while. There has been attempts to make use of the standard to actually distribute internet traffic thru the power grid to home and businesses. As with every potentially disruptive technology, the big players found a way to shelf the idea. It has come a long way now compared to then (about 2005 was when we first experimented with them). It used to have very weak encryption and the signal could leak thru meters to the next house or apartment. -
