If the Watchtower truly collapsed, how would you deal with your JW relatives?
by nicolaou inimagine the best case scenario.
the watchtower society implodes from within even making final printed admissions that it is voluntarily dismantling it's mission and legally dissolving the corporations.
oh happy day!

Welcome to the forum. Bitterness is normal. We were duped. We believed that the "truth' was the "truth" but is was a lie. You devoted your live to what you honestly believed. You and all of us were deceived. With time, hopefully you can move beyond the bitterness. Be gentle with yourself. You have been through a traumatic awakening. You are welcome here, we all understand, even though we are all at different stages of recovery. -

I saw and heard something in a Kingdom hall I thought I would never witness!
by HowTheBibleWasCreated inwhen i was a kid i would hear religious songs on tv and start sining them... not knowing they were church songs... one day i started singing the hallelujah song (not sure the exact name of the song) my father quickly gave me a hard slap on the mouth and said if i ever sang that song again he would take his belt off and beat my butt until it was red!.
well fast forward 30 years..... the public speaker was missing today and so tv.jw>org to the rescue.... instead they decided to play the new video about the last hundred years since 1914.. instantly the hall was filled with the exact same song i was punished for!
yes a church song filled the hall for almost 5 minutes as we watch br.

it seems like the way to sum up all the goings on is: What's good is bad and what's bad is good. What we were taught to believe is now no longer true. Just need to keep up with the new ... lies -

1975 not a big deal? It was a very big deal to those of us that lived through it! Where do you think the saying "Stay alive 'til 75." came from? -

It's a cryin shame that they are not aware. I must admit though, that I was the same way when Barbara first came out with the issue of abuse and the formation of Silent Lambs. A the time I was a d.i.n.k without kids and higher up on the food chain, so to speak. It didn't affect me at the time, so I did not pay it any attention. Selfish fool that I was. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Ignorance can be bliss, but it's also ignorant. -

Do you want to take action to support mandatory child abuse reporting? (UK or US mainly)
by defender of truth inthis quote is just for discussion purposes, not my political bias or anything... .
" a 'revolution in attitudes' is needed to safeguard children from sex abusers, according to the shadow home secretary, yvette cooper.in an interview with the independent on sunday, ms cooper said that the problem was wider than the historic cases uncovered through the jimmy savile scandal and the abuse of hundreds of children in rotherham.she said that childrens voices must be heard by organisations which had failed to act in the past, and pledged that a labour government would make the reporting of abuse a legal requirement... we need to introduce mandatory reporting so that no institution can ever be tempted to think that the reputation of the institution matters more than the protection of the child ... there has to be a stronger obligation to report and to act.labour has included mandatory reporting in the partys pre-election manifesto and has also said it will set up a cross-whitehall unit to tackle child protection.

Mind control.
by New day inin a recent thread someone mentioned that the wtbts uses mind control techniques.
do you think this is a conscious ploy?
if it is it would mean that the leaders of my religion (i am still an active jw) set out consciously to control people.

My pre-teen son came home from the meeting that he went to with his father and said that the meeting was trying to 'brainwash him'. I asked him why he thought that and he said 'because they keep repeating the same things over and over again'.
It made me proud that he saw that, but also made me wonder why if a pre-teen could see it, why couldn't we as adults? The conclusion that I came to, it that he is aware of what to look for. Many of us were innocent to mind control tactics and were open to the idea of a perfect society.
The best we can do is be vocal with what we have learned. Hopefully, it will help others to avoid the heartache that we endured while being ignorant to what was behind the curtain.

I'm the one who needs to "come to his senses" ?????
by Phizzy ini was in conversation a few weeks back with a jw i have known for at least four decades.
most of it was catching up on family stuff, he has loads of kids, some have married and produced sprogs since i left.
all news to me.. i demolished a couple of his fatuous arguments, and then he decided to scuttle away, throwing this over his shoulder as he went :.

Hi Phizzy, It's interesting that he made that comment as he was leaving. Apparently, he had no desire to discuss the topic with you further. He was just showing his arrogance and ignorance. Anything you may have said to him after that would be a waste of your time and energy. It's a pity, because if he would have stuck around and conversed with you, he would have learned something! His loss.

Hello All! Please pardon if this a repeated topic. I have had virtually no contact with any Witnesses beside my mother for the past few years. She watches TV constantly and claims she has never seen anything on the Watchtower abuse cases.
n your view, how is the average publisher reacting to all the media coverage of Candice Conti? Is the coverage making any headway or are they just sticking their collective heads in the sand? Or are they like my mom, and just happen to miss seeing it? What's your experience?

Attitudes of WT Society Leaders Towards " Rights " of Child Abuse Victims and Elders
by flipper inthese excerpts i'm sharing with you are from the july 1st, 1989 letter from the wt society to the elders and it gives outsiders a good idea of the attitude of the wt society leaders towards child abuse victims and even towards their own appointed elders.
and it shows wt society is first, foremost, and mainly concerned about financial fallout from potential lawsuits.
one short quote was used from this letter on the abc news nightline report about candace conti - but what i'm going to share with you will be other excerpts from that same letter that are just as, or even more revealing.

Hello Flipper: Thanks for starting this post. Many of us came in to the organization with the idea that we were entering into a safe haven. Yet found out that it was the opposite. It's ironic that we used to go door to door telling people of our earthly paradise, but in reality we were setting them up for possible abuses of their children. I cringe when I think of the part I unknowingly played in the deception.
Fisherman: "Rough from the start" ????? Blame the victim mentality at it's best.
